PowerHack is a HackMaster Extension for the USR/Palm Pilot, which automatically locks the device whenever it is turned off. When either the power button is pressed, or the Auto-off timeout expires, PowerHack locks and turns off the device. When the Pilot is next turned on, a password must be entered to unlock the device.
PowerHack is a HackMaster extension. To use it, you will need a copy of the (excellent) HackMaster application from Edward Keyes at DaggerWare, which can be found here : HackMaster
Note that HackMaster is shareware.Download PowerHack and install it on you Pilot with the Pilot Install Tool or whatever you normally use to install Pilot applications.
Start HackMaster on your pilot, check the PowerHack checkbox, and tap on the 'Reset(!)' button. When the Pilot resets, tap on the 'Reinstall' button in the HackMaster pop-up window. PowerHack is now installed.
Try turning off the Pilot. When you turn on again, you will be presented with the 'System Lockout' screen. Enter your password to continue, or simply tap the 'OK' button if you have not assigned a password.
These features are either planned, or have been suggested and are being considered. Some requests may not make it here - either I've decided not to do them, or I am still working out whether it is possible to implement them. Please don't email me with requests for features already listed here - although feedback, encouragement, etc, is always welcome !
- At some stage there will (probably) be a HackMaster configuration panel for PowerHack.
- See Check-In for most other features.
- PowerHack still does not have an 'official' AppID. I'm still waiting for confirmation from palm. PowerHack currently uses
appl PwrH. I did a quick check, but this may conflict with other applications.- If PowerHack is being used without Check-In. PowerHack does not lock the device if the 'prefs' app is running at power-off time.
