TIPS:
1) USE CourseBuilder:
It will save you a lot of time on the course. I
generally pre-enter the course while waiting at the first
Tee. I can put in 18 holes with coursebuilder in less than
5 minutes. That way on the course, All I have to deal with
is the score.
2) Leave the Stylus at home:
We've had a few requests for an interface that's easier
to opperate with your finger. We agree. We just don't have
the space. My personal concern is that I will lose my
stylus on the course. I no longer take a stylus. For the
last year, I've simply used the Golf Tee that is usually
sitting behind my ear.
3) Carrying the Pilot:
I found some great golf shorts. They are BugleBoy,
Docker style pants that have like safari pockets on the
sides. These side pockets hold the Pilot perfectly. It
does _not_ interfere with my Golf Swing. ( didn't help it
either :-/ ).
4) Your Tip here...
Question ?: How do I get my data
out of my Pilot ?
Answer: With the release of version 1.1b we also
included a program called "GolfTrac-Assistant". With this
program you can "Export" a round of golf as a "MemoPad"
record in either Tab or comma delimited form. From there,
all it takes is a simple HotSync. On the desktop side,
cut/copy/paste this data into your favorite spreadsheet or
database program. Until the conduit is released, we
recommend you export all rounds and keep a backup "hard"
copy of your data for safe keeping.
Question ?: Why don't you
support handicapping now, and when will you ?
Answer: We want to inlcude handicapping as much as
you want us to. Unfortunatly, the USGA is not very friendly
when it comes to sharing their algorithm. It's posted on
their web site for all to see and use (manually) but it's
patented, copyrighted, and can't be used by us or anyone
else. In fact they even post on their web site court cases
they have won, sueing developers like us who have used it.
(see http://www.usga.org).
There are other alternatives, Golf Digests, algorithm for example.
We are exploring this and other alternatives. We understand
the most of you don't need a "real" USGA approved handicap,
just a close number as a way to measure against other
golfers and/or to help maintain your handicap. We hope to
have a solution by version 2.0
Question ?: Where is the
conduit and when it arrives will it be FREE ?
Answer: At the time of this answer, the conduit is in
pre-alpha, in non-computer ease, that means it's exists and
does work. It is _not_ feature complete and is no where
near ready to ship. It's like being 5 months pregnant. You
know you have a baby, but you're not be sure if it' a boy or
girl and you have some idea as to when it will be born
(about 4 months from now). O.K.,
but will it be free ? We have at this point
released 3 upgrades to GolfTrac since it's initial 1.0
release. Each release has added significant features. To
date we have _not_ charged for a single upgrade. The
conduit involves developing an entierly new and different
product, with additional support requirements. This
additional cost to us has to be covered. Expect the conduit
to cost more, and be optoinal. For its initial release, we
plan to offere current registered users a very friendly
discount. The desktop application will also fit into this
category. It too may be optional and involves yet another
product. We are looking at different solutions here. We'd
rather not re-invent the wheel if necessary. There are
great "desktop" golf applications on the market. We may
choose to bundle and/or license a pre existing product. In
either case we'll have to charge for that. We also plan to
offer a substantial discount to registered users.
