GolfTrac™ Glossary
Table of Contents

When designing GolfTrac we tried to use terminology that was generic enough for all to use.

For instance there are many different types/colors of Tees. Some courses use Blue, White, Red, while others use Black, Blue, White, Orange, and Red. Still others will name the Tee's: Pro, Mens, Amateur, Ladies, etc. We offer 3 settings; Mens, Ladies, and Pros and leave it up to you to equate which Tee's those may be.

We realize that some of the terms we use may not be familiar to you so we offer this Glossary. In GolfTrac 1.0 the terms for shot detailing are not user definable, so we'll try to give our perspective on what they mean. (See the Detail Documentation for the logic behind this screen as it may not fit your needs or even be applicable)

TERM

N/A = Not Applicable.
Perfect = You can find no fault with the shot.
Long = Shot felt good, went straight where you aimed but was longer than expected (read to much club).
Short = Shot felt good, went straight where you aimed but was shorter than expected (read not enough club).
Hooked = for a right handed player the shot went sharp to the left, almost like it took a 90 degree turn.
Sliced = for a right handed player the shot went sharp to the right, almost like it took a 90 degree turn.
Draw = for a right handed player the shot faded or leaked to the left, unintentionally. If you planed the Draw then the shot would be rated, long/short/perfect or something else.
Fade = Opposite of Draw.
Skulled = Topped, Smashed, Worm Burner. Most commonly when you are chipping and you hit the ball above center sending it across the green, or those shots that skip across the ground and fails to gain any altitude.
Chili-Dipped = Under, lofty, spade, Most common when chipping, and you pop the ball up about a foot in the air and it goes about a foot. Or, when your divot travels farther than the ball. You got WAY under it and "Chili-Dipped" it.
Sky-Ball = The Ball travels higher than it goes long. Tee a ball too high to experience this.

- The Rest are mostly Putter snafus -

Bad Reads = Your putts are the right length or speed, but you miss-read the green.

(Short and Long are also to be used for putts)

Stubbed = Making contact with the Green and the ball at the same time.
Hit Behind = Hitting the green before you hit the ball.
Undetermined = This is a shot that is so bad that you don't know where to start, or there were more things wrong than there are fields to note it. (This is a bad thing).

Other Terms

Free Throws

Free Throws, give the golfer a unit of measurement beyond the Green In Regulation statistic. As one user put it :

Even a number 10 handicap often has no chance at hitting a green in regulation. Tracking Free throws, allows the golfer to tally when they are really trying to hit the green. A Free Throw is then, the shot during the hole where you are honestly trying to hit the green and you have a reasonable chance for your skill level. For some this may be 180 yards out. For others, 30-40 yards.
