The author accepts no responsibility for damages caused by this program. Make sure to back up (hotsync) your data before installing the program. For the latest versions of this program, and other Pilot programs, please refer to: web page: http://www.ddhsoftware.com email: sales@ddhsoftware.com Address: DDH Software PO Box 970971 Boca Raton, Fl 33497-0971 USA phone: (561) 470-2133 ----------------------------- Files -------------------------------------- WPM.PRC - The Program that runs the actual program. README.TXT - This file. ORDER.TXT - A printable order form for purchasing other DDH Products. PRODUCTS.TXT- A list of other DDH Products available. -------------------------- Installation ---------------------------------- First, make sure you have the appropriate space available on your pilot. The space required for the program itself is ~9K. To see if you have enough memory, run the Memory application on the pilot. If you do not have at least the appropriate amount free, you will either have to choose to delete apps from the same Memory application, or choose to not install this program until you have that amount of free memory. To install WPM onto your Pilot, run the INSTAPP.EXE program which resides in the same directory as the Pilot Desktop software. This program will allow you to specify that a .PRC file should be downloaded to the Pilot during the next hotsync. Choose to download the WPM.PRC to your Pilot. ----------------------- Instructions For Use ------------------------------ --The Main Screen The screen contains two fields, with the sentence to transcribe being at the top. There are two buttons at the bottom: Start and Done. Pressing start begins the timer. As soon as the start button is pressed the cursor will move to the beginning of the blank field. Write the exact sentence as seen above into the line, including Capitalization and punctuation, and Press the done button when you are finished. This will bring up your statistics. --Statistics Screen The following statistics are shown on this screen: # Chars in original - The number of characters including spaces and punctuation in the original text to be transcribed. # Words in original - The number of words in the original text to be transcribed. This is not the actual number of words, but rather the number of characters / 5. This is because Typing programs generally do not count actual words- instead they assume the average word length is five characters. # Chars written - The number of characters that were written with the timed period, including spaces and punctuation. # Words written - The number of words written within the timed period. This is not the actual number of words, but rather the number of characters / 5. This is because Typing programs generally do not count actual words- instead they assume the average word length is five characters. # Errors - The number of characters written that did not match the sentence being transcribed. This is a 1:1 compare, so if your text becomes 'off' by one letter, you will have multiple errors in your results. # Chars written - Errors - The number of characters that were written with the timed period, including spaces and punctuation, minus the number of errors. # Words written - Errors - The number of words written within the timed period corrected by the number of errors. This is not the actual number of words, but rather the (number of characters - errors) / 5. This is because typing programs generally do not count actual words- instead they assume the average word length is five characters. Time Elapsed (secs)- This is the number of seconds that elapsed beginning the moment you pressed the start button and ending the moment you pressed the done button. Words Per Minute - This is the number of words you wrote per minute, ignoring errors. This is calculated by the following formula: # Characters written 60 --------------------- * ------- 5 Elapsed Time Corrected Words Per Minute/Score - This is the number of words you wrote per minute, including deductions for errors. This is calculated by the following formula: # Characters written - Errors 60 ----------------------------- * ------- 5 Elapsed Time Press the "OK" button when done viewing your statistics. -- Set Sentence Screen From the File pull down menu, you can bring up the Set Sentence choice, which will allow you to make up a different sentence to use for testing. From here there is a Done and Cancel button. Done accepts your sentence and applies it to the main screen. Cancel ignores your changes and returns to the main screen. -- High Score Screen From the File pull down menu, you can bring up the View Stats choice, which will allow you to view the top ten WPM scores. --Cut, Copy, Paste, and KeyBoard From the pull down menus, you can cut, copy, or paste to and from another application. You can also bring down the keyboard choice and use the pop up keyboard to test your typing skills. This makes for an interesting comparison. -------------------------------- Menus ------------------------------------- File -- contains Set Sentence and View Stats choices. Edit -- contains cut, copy, and paste choices as well as a choice to bring up the onscreen keyboard, as an alternative to entering graffiti.
