********* Quick Documentation For JShopper 1.4a *********** About: JShopper is a shopping list type application. Use it to store items you need at up 15 different stores. Items can be associated with multiple stores, so that if you need soda-pop for instance, one tap updates the need in in all stores that contain soda-pop. Also includes a lookup feature, quantities, and the ability to use coupons! Add as many items as you like to your stores, then as you need them, simply check them off. While at the store, click on the 'Needs' button and you'll see only those items which you currently need. Keep track of grocery items, office supplies, clothing, or any other possible shopping list you can imagine. ICON NOTE: Due to much confusion over the multiple PRC files, and the feedback received to date, I'll only be supporting one icon for each release of JShopper - the original grocery shopping cart icon has received the most positive feedback to date. ***************************** USAGE ******************************* The Lookup Field: The L: ____ field at the bottom of the screen is for multi-character lookups, as in the AddressBook application on the pilot. Tap this field and enter grafitti characters and the list will scroll to the first item beginning with the characters you have entered. Changing Store Names: Store names can be changed by selecting the store in the top list of store names, and then choosing the Menu Item - Options/Change Store Name - store names can be up to 25 characters long. Using Coupons: Under the App Prefs menu option you can turn on or off the use of Coupons. If you use coupons, prior to heading to the store, check off the coupon checkbox (the one on the right hand side of the screen for each item) for each item you have a coupon for. Do you shopping and check off the items you get them. When you are at the register click the 'C' button at the top of the screen, and all the items that you have coupons for that store will again show up, and check each coupon as you are checking out. Just as in the 'Needs' view, the items will dissappear from the Coupon view as you process the coupons at the register. Adding items: Records can be added by tapping the 'New' button. Associating items with multiple stores: After adding a new record, while the record is selected, tap on the 'Details' button. This will bring up a dialog which will allow you to select which stores to associate the item with - check each store where this item may appear. While at the store: Click on the 'Needs' button and only those items 'Needed' at the current store will be shown. As you pick up the items, uncheck the box. As you uncheck each box, the item will be removed from your needs list (for all stores the item is associate with). Sorting: The Menu item - Options/Sort will sort the entire items list alphabetically and is allowable at any time. One Time Items: These are items you only will want to get one time, after which they will be completely removed from the shopping list. You can make an item a 'One Time' item by selecting Details and then clicking on the One Time box. This automatically sets the item to 'Needed', and when you check the item as no longer needed, the item completely removed itself from the app. App Preferences: This dialog box is brought up from the Options menu item. Here you can set how the checkboxes are interpreted in both the All and Needs screens - either whether a checked box means you HAVE an item, or a checked box means you need an item. Here is also where you can set whether you wish to display the coupons column and the quantity column. New Item Preferences: In this menu option, you can determine how new items are associated with stores if you are currently viewing the 'All Stores' screen. You can set the check box to either associate new items with every store in the list, or with none of the stores in the list as a default. Graffiti Scrolling: If you are not currently editing an item (ie. no item is currently selected, you can draw a grafitti character and the list will scroll to the fist item in the list beginning with that character. This allows for much quicker finding of certain items in longer lists. Example: say you have a 200 item list, and wish to check 'Zuchinni' as needed in JShopper, rather than scrolling though the numerous pages of items, you can simply draw a 'z' in the grafitti area, and JShopper will scroll the list to the first item beginning with a 'z'. NOTE: This option is based on usage for sorted lists of items. Exporting to Memopad: JShopper supports exporting of the currently viewed list to a Memopad item. At any time while viewing a JShopper list, you may select the Menu option 'Export to Memopad' and the list will be added as a Memopad memo with an 'Unfiled' category, with the name of the Memo starting with "Jshopper List:". You may then HotSync this memo as a standard memo, and print it out or copy/paste it as you would any other standard Memopad memo. ************************** TIPS ************************************************ For the current version, one method to simulate categories is to prefix each item with an identifier, example: instead of Milk, use Dairy - Milk, then when you sort the list, all your Dairy prefixed items will be grouped together. Stores that have needs in them are prefixed with a '* ' symbol for easy reference to those stores you currently need to visit. ******************************************************************************** Changes Since Version 1.4: - Bug fixes for use with the older Pilot 1000/5000 series Changes since version 1.3a: - Speed increase on displaying the store list in most cases - New Preferences menu for new items - can associate All stores items with every store or with none of them - Added a Sort confirmation alert to reduce the possibility of accidently sorting the items (for those who keep items in non-sorted order) - Add confirmation alerts for the Set and Clear All items menu option - Fixed a problem on longer item names sometimes having an extra blank line on the screen - Adding back in the single graffiti character lookup when the Lookup field is not currently selected - Fixed a bug where one time items were deleted while still showing a a coupon - Fixed initial showing of both 'C' and 'All' or 'Need' buttons highlighted at once - When adding a new item in 'All Stores' it will default to be associated with each store (for adding an item to 1 or a only a few stores, add the item while viewing one of the stores you would like it to be associated with). - Fixed a bug where the Lookup field's focus was not being released properly - Fixed a bug where one time items were deleted while still showing a a coupon - they will now not be deleted until the coupon checkbox is also unchecked.
