Dear Potential Bare Bones EPROM Programmer Owner,

I have a Bare Bones EPROM Programmer Kit available. The
plans and software on disk cost only $15. It is a two-IC
project which is easy to build on a plastic breadboard or by
wire-wrapping, etc. I include the artwork for a PCB (printed
circuit board), if you want to make your own PCB.

The software runs on the PC, which connects to the Bones
board through a serial port, and makes it easy to burn an EPROM
from a file on the PC, copy an EPROM's contents to a file on the
PC, convert a binary file to either a Motorola S1-S9 format or
an Intel Hex format, or vice versa. The software is
menu-driven, easy to use, and even includes the ability to
toggle the PC's serial port pins on and off repeatedly. This has
helped me (with no EPROM programmer board involved at all) to
         sort out serial port connections.

The two ICs needed are an MC68HC11D0P microprocessor and a
CMOS hex inverter (either 4049 or 74HC4049). You need to supply
the power (5 Vdc) and the programming voltage (12.5 Vdc, 21 Vdc,
or 25 Vdc, depending on the particular EPROM you are
programming). This can come from batteries, a wall transformer,
etc. I sell a parts kit for an additional $25 for your
convenience (you can probably find the parts cheaper on your
own). From time to time I also have a PCB available for $25.
This seems overpriced to me, so please make your own, instead.
Also, I often do not have any PCBs on hand, so if you are
ordering a PCB, include a SEPARATE CHECK for it, so I can return
that check if I don't have a PCB available at the time of your
order. The Bare Bones EPROM programmer only programs the
         following types of EPROMs: 2716 (2Kx8), 2764 (8Kx8), 27128
(16Kx8), and 27256 (32Kx8). Surely it can be used to program
EEPROMs as well, but I haven't actually tried that yet.

At these prices, if you don't have an EPROM programmer of
your very own, there is no longer any need for you to deprive
         yourself!
