Chess instructions
==================

Chess is written in hand coded assembler
for speed and I have spent a lot of
time doing graphics on the HP95LX.

On level 1 you can expect moves to be
made in less than 10 seconds. Level 2
in less than a minute. Each level the
time take is multiplied by about 6.
Each level is two move plies of
searching. Level 2 plays a good fast
game.

CHESS.EXE must be executed from the
filer, or from DOS.

To move your pieces, you can use the
space or enter key to select pieces.
The cursor keys or the numeric keypad
move your pointer around the board.

When it is your turn, the computer will
flash your kings piece.
Before you have selected a piece on
your turn you may press 'N' for a new
game, or 'S' to swap sides with the
computer.

If ESC is pressed at any time, the
current board will be saved into a
file called C:\_DAT\CHESS.CNF.
when chess is next run you will be asked
New Game (Y/N)? if you press N the game
will continue from where it was saved.

Please let me know of any bugs, or how
many times you beat it and any silly
mistakes it makes.

Invaders Instructions
=====================

For people who like less 'serious'
games I have included a version of
space invaders for the HP. This is
also coded in assembler specifically
for the HP.

You may find batteries not lasting
long with this game as the processor
is working so hard. The display contrast
may also have to be increased (ON +)
so you can see the aliens bullets.

Invaders has a high score table that is
stored in the file C:\_DAT\INVADERS.CNF

Basically you must shoot all the aliens
before they reach your level. Each
alien in worth 75 points. Motherships
sometimes fly across the top of the
screen, these are worth 250 points.
You have a 50% chance of killing an
aliens bullet by shooting it.
I have found the display less useable
when a power adaptor is installed as
when the refresh rate increases and it
gets more 'muddy'.

Extra lives come at every 10000 points.
The highest I have got is about 30000!

I have been playing this for some time
now and have not 'broken' my keyboard
yet, these HP keys can take a lot of
punishment!

Move/fire keys for both left and right
handed people have been included.

=======================================

These programs were written mostly ON
the HP using the MEMO built-in editor
and assembled with OPTASM and OPTLNK
which are the fastest, smallest and
most reliable assemblers I know of.
A86 is much smaller and faster, but
it corrupted my drive C the first
time I ran it...Beware!

Please support hand coded assembler
programs written only for the HP95LX!

I hope you find either of these
programs entertaining. These versions
have been made shareware. This means
that I have worked on these programs
in my spare time, in the hope that
people will find the HP95LX a more
powerful machine than they thought, and
encourage other people to buy one.

To register your copy of these programs
please send a check or money order for
$25.00 to Andrew Glaister at:

1391 S. Old Wilke Rd,
Arlington Hts. IL.

If you have any comments or suggestions
please contact me on Compuserve as
Andy_G, or at home at 708-670-8331.

I will be working on additions to the
chess program, such as faster speed,
hints, take back, setup board, SYSMGR
compliancy etc...This version will only
be available to registered users.

If you would like this next update on
a 720k IBM format 3.5" floppy then
please enclose another $5.00 for the
disk and postage. Otherwise I will
upload the file in a passworded ZIP
and EMAIL registered users the password.

This information is correct as of
October 91.

If you do copy these file to friends,
or upload them to another BB, please
copy this file as well.

These programs may not be resold or used
for anything other than personal use.
These programs may not be modified in
any way without my permission.

Obviously if your HP blows-up/dies
turns green/ speaks etc... I will
not be held responsible. I have tried
to ensure there are no errors in the
software, but I am human....

I am working on a number of commercial
programs (and maybe a games card). I
made these shareware to see if it is
possible to distribute programs by
peoples good will. I wrote these by
reverse engineering the HP and
information on Compuserve.

Many thanks,

Andrew Glaister.
