-= P C - S P O R T =- Version 2.50 Copyright (c) 1986,1988,1989 by Geoffrey C Monkley Much time and effort is consumed by voluntary sporting body administrators (usually players or Mums and Dads) to promote and conduct sporting fixtures. Many people in this position have access to Personal Computers at home or at work which could dramatically cut the time required to perform these duties, if only they had a suitable Program. PC-SPORT has been designed to fill this gap for those honorary sport administrators with access to an IBM PC or compatible computer. PC-SPORT is intended for use by persons with little or no knowledge of computers. It is thus designed to be highly "User Friendly" with little need for reference to documentation. It features: * Suitability for most true "Team" sports (eg Football, Baseball) * Easy definition of your "Association" and points score system * Complete flexibility in providing your Ladder requirements * Ability to amend data, titles, calculation formulae at any time * Simple addition of game results with minimum effort * Automatic calculation from scratch each time you want a Ladder (Hence it cannot be fooled by amendments to scores) * Automatic determination of competition draw * Automatic drafting of a pocket size fixture book for each season * Easy incorporation of additional user provided columns in fixture book * Acceptance of additional user provided pages for fixture book * Complete flexibility in determining what ladders/tables to print at any time * Ability to print output to disk first or direct to the printer as you desire Version 2.0 of PC-SPORT featured a major upgrading of the modules used for Competition Definition and for performing competition draws for the fixture book, as well as a general revision of the whole program to allow an increase in the maximum number of teams to 16 in any grade. Versions up to 2.50 add minor improvements, improve data entry, speed up operation and fix a few bugs. Initial definition and amendment are performed on a screen template with full editing facilities and allow for the use of a Macro to copy the team names from one grade to the next to save keystrokes. Amendment at any time after performing the initial draw now provides the option of preserving the draw as far as practicable even with a new sort of team names. This will allow late changes to the competition program to be included speedily with minimal alterations to the existing draw. It will also allow the same template to be used for following seasons by providing the facility to delete all results and to accept amendments. The fixture book module now provides for a Standard Draw which gives alternating Home and Away fixtures as far as possible and evens out the order of games to give each team an approximately equal number of appearances in any particular "time slot". Allocation of teams to a particular template "number" can be random, same as previous grade, or user specified as desired. The extension of the maximum number of teams to 16 necessitated a change to the layout of the data file. As a result v2.x data file format is NOT compatible with v1.x data files, and hence PC-SPORT v2.x will NOT access v1.x data or template files correctly. If you are a registered user, you will be supplied with SPRTCONV.COM on request. This will enable you to convert your existing data files to the PC-SPORT version 2.x format. Before proceeding further use DiskCopy to make a working copy of this diskette to a spare one, then put the distribution diskette away in a safe place and use your copy to print the manual. To get a manual on standard paper, at the DOS prompt, with PC-SPORT.DOC in the default drive, type COPY PC-SPT.DOC PRN . If you would rather have a smaller A5 size manual, (approx 155mmx200mm or 6.2"x8.3" ie about the size of the pages in your DOS Manual) you can obtain a single sided version by first ensuring your printer is set to print at 12 cpi (elite). Then type COPY PC-SPT.DOK PRN . If you want an A5 size manual, printed on both sides, at the DOS prompt type PAGECONV . Answer the first question with PC-SPT.DOK. Give a drive\path\YourFile WITHOUT extension for the output file name. Two files, .R for right hand pages and .L for left hand pages will be created, each nearly 100k long. When complete, set your printer to 12 cpi (elite), and type COPY drive\path\YourFile.R PRN . When complete, remove the paper, put the first page into the printer with the printed side next to the roller, ensure yor printer is still set for 12 cpi and COPY drive\path\YourFile.L PRN .
