Users can permanently customize the astrology program by running the program distributed with it called CUSTOM95.COM. Entering your favorite options at this program's screens and then saving your changes to file will store them in a file called CUSTOM.AST. The ASTROL95 program reads this file upon loading and customizes itself in accordance with the user's wishes. The desired options that are in effect can be viewed at ASTROL95's Custom Set-Up screen. If the CUSTOM.AST file is not present, or a particular option was not customized, the program default will display. CUSTOM95.COM can also be used to permanently save your personal registration code so that you do not have to retype it at the program registration screen at the start of each session. This is done by running CUSTOM95.COM in the directory in which you will be running ASTROL95 and entering your registration code once at the CUSTOM95 screen. At the Program Registration screen of ASTROL95 you will then be able to automatically retrieve your registration code by pressing the F1 key at the registration code prompt. For users who want to deinstall the astrology program from their hard disk, the CUSTOM95.COM program provides a utility in its Supplementary Menu that will delete the special registration code directory. You can change the initial chart display mode from the default tabular format to graphic chartwheel format by answering Y to the first question at the Custom Set-Up screen. Then when you next review or calculate a chart the results will display in the new mode. Release 9.5 adds selections to redisplay a chart in either mode to the Calculation Options Menu and Saved Chart Options Menu. The graphic chartwheel option and U.S. and world maps require the user's PC to have a color graphics card. A utility that enables a Hercules monographics card to correctly display B&W CGA graphics by simulating a CGA is available. Unregistered users can view their first saved chart in graphics format, but because this feature is original and required considerable work to develop, all other charts can be displayed in graphics format only by users who send in the fee to receive a registration code. You can print a hardcopy of the graphics chartwheel by loading the DOS external command file GRAPHICS.COM before running the astrology program and pressing Shift-PrintScreen while the chartwheel is on the screen. This worked fine with an IBM Proprinter, but an Epson LQ1000 produced an elongated image (perhaps because the monitor was an EGA rather than a CGA). The distribution diskette sent to registered users includes a number of public domain alternatives to GRAPHICS.COM. RUN CUSTOM95.COM TO PERMANENTLY SELECT THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS The default house system is the Placidus house system long known in the English-speaking world from Raphael's Ephemeris and Raphael's Tables of Houses. Placidus houses utilize a complicated time-based system of house division. Customers have requested the ability to select the following alternate house systems. The Koch house system is a time-based system very similar to the Placidus house system. Also known as the Birthplace system, it was first published by Dr. Walter Koch in 1971. The Equal House System - Western Style assigns each house thirty degrees starting from the Ascendant. The Equal House System - Eastern Style assigns each house one zodiacal sign starting from the Ascendant or rising sign. Planets fall within a house if they fall within its zodiacal sign. The Campanus house system is a space-based system which derives its houses by trisecting the quadrants formed by the intersection of the horizon and meridian with the great circle known as the prime vertical. The CUSTOM95.COM program gives you the option of having your charts calculated according to the Sidereal zodiac instead of the default Tropical zodiac. The Sidereal zodiac is tied to the constellations while the Tropical zodiac is tied to the ecliptic- equator nodal points. Precession of the equator causes the nodal points and Tropical zodiac to move relative to the constellations at the rate of 1.4 degrees per century. The program will accept a 'delta' factor of up to 90 degrees in either direction from the standard Western sidereal zodiac. The CUSTOM95.COM program prompts the user to enter this factor if the user selects the sidereal zodiac. CUSTOM95.COM allows the user to customize whether the program includes the Ascendant and Midheaven in aspects, midpoints, chart comparisons, and transits. The program default is to include them. The default is not to include the moon's nodes, but the program can be customized to include them as well as to display them. The program can be customized to display the Part of Fortune. The program can be customized to print tabular format charts to an ASCII format file on disk instead of to the printer, in which case the prompt will change from Print Hardcopy (Y/N) to Print to ASCII File (Y/N). The planet that the transits list starts from can be customized to be any planet from the sun to Pluto. The duration of the list period can be from one to twelve months, except that if the transiting planets include the moon then the maximum duration is one month and if Venus then the maximum duration is six months. At the Supplementary Menu of CUSTOM95 there is an option to change the text and background colors of the astrology program's text screens from the default yellow and black. A couple of customers who have color graphics cards but monochrome monitors have told me that the program's text screens appeared fuzzy. Changing the text color to white should solve this problem. The continuous form feed option at the Supplementary Menu asks whether the user wants continuous form feed printing or wants print pauses in which to change paper.
