Welcome to ESL Writer!                                         

ESL Writer consists of two diskettes.  Disk one contains the   
word processing program ESL Writer and four programs to help   
with the task of word processing and composing (ESL Writer     
Commands, Punctuation Help, Grammar Help, and Revision Help).  

Disk two has several programs to help with the pre-writing     
process (Invisible Writer, Lister, 1001 Topics, and            
Organization and Development Help).                            

ESL Writer was developed for college level ESL Writing         
students, but the program may be useful for any students of   


Disk One:

The ESL Writer word processing program has a pulldown-menu     
system that will make the students'' word processing more  
efficient and productive.  Instead of having to remember a
lot of commands the student only has to know a few important
commands that access the pulldown-menu system.  From the   
pulldown-menu all of the major word processing commands can be 
activated by arrow keys or single key strokes.                

The student can also access four help programs directly from   
the pulldown-menu.  These programs gives the student access to 
grammar, punctuation, word processing commands, and revision   
help.  These programs can also be accessed through the post-  
writer menu, without having to go into the ESL Writer word   
processing program.                                            

Please familiarize yourself with ESL Writer commands before 
you begin.                                                     

Disk Two:   Pre-writing programs 

Invisible Writer is a simple but powerful word processing      
program.  Invisible Writer allows the user type without seeing 
the text.  A single command brings the text back to the screen.
This feature will help writers concentrate more on their thought
processes and content, rather that superficial grammar, punctuation,  
or spelling errors.                                           

Lister is a program that asks the writer to answer some simple
questions about their topic, choose a thesis, and then list ideas
about the topic.  It will be a useful idea generator for most 
writers.                                                       

1001 Topics is a program that actually contains 1358 topics that
are suggested for composition.  The topics are arranged in 21  
categories.  The topics are suitable for many different types
of composition.  Choose a topic from here or maybe it will help
you to think of a better topic.   

Organization and development gives the student guidelines on     
developing and organizing the most common types of compositions. 
The user is asked important questions about their topic in order
to help the student better organize and develop their composition.

Be sure to use the DOS command copy *.* to copy the disks. The 
DiskCopy command will not always copy all the files.
