                   COMPLETING A PEN PAL LETTER

Once you have created a Pen Pal letter, questionnaire, or
interview and made it available to your friends and associates,
it is ready for them to complete. When they choose the option to
"Answer A Pen Pal Letter" from the main men of the program, the
first thing they will see is the instructions (if any) that you
prepared.

When your friends and associates have read the instructions and
then press the space bar, the first item of your letter or
questionnaire will be presented to them. The questionnaire item
will be presented in the upper half of the screen and a blinking
cursor will appear in the lower half of the screen. Your friends
and associates may then enter any response they wish and it may
consist of up to 10 lines of information. They must enter each
line by pressing the <cr> key at the end of the line. To end
their response, they need only press the <cr> key when the cursor
is in the first column of any line.

Once a response to an item has been entered, the program will
then present both the item and the response with a query as to
whether they wish to change their response. If they wish to
change or correct their response, they need only press the letter
'y' or 'Y' and the item will be presented once more to receive
their response. When the respondent indicates no desire to
change or correct the response, the next item will then be
presented.

                     EXITING FROM THE LETTER

The respondent's prompt line in the middle of the screen
provides an option to "Exit" from the interview or questionnaire.
A soft exit may be executed by entering an * in the first column
of a line and then pressing the carriage return key. This is
useful when you are answering a long letter and you want to take
a break.

                      AVOIDING PRYING EYES

If you are answering a truly sensitive letter or completing a
very confidential questionnaire, you may not want someone to walk
by and read the material on screen. There is a very powerful way
to avoid that. Just tap the Esc key once! If you press the Esc
key at any time while entering a response, you will be
immediately taken out of the questionnaire and the program. The
Esc key returns you immediately to DOS. Most important, the Esc
key blanks the screen immediately!

When your friends and associates have completed a letter,
questionnaire or interview, they should send their "Pen Pal
Letters" diskette (or a copy of it) to you so that you can then
read their replies.
