                          CLIENT FORM - DEMO

This is the INFO-BASE demo program. The demo program reflects the use
of INFO-BASE by a small business. Typically, a small business will have a
client file from which personalized form letters (i.e. new products or
late payment notices) and invoices are sent. Since invoices will be processed
separately (for accounting purposes ) they are kept in a separate file;
however, to prevent redundant data input all of the common information (name,
age, rank, serial no. ... ) is extracted from the client file.

Press Ctrl y (^Y) several times. The bottom command windows will show all
of the available commands. Press Ctrl N (^N) and the help screens will present
a description of each command.

Now press "RETURN" three times followed by "F6" three times. The cursor
moves in response to the CURSOR SEQUENCE that was specified when this FORM
was created. Now press "RETURN" four times to get to the next page.

   Last Name First Name Title

FORMS can be several pages long -- up to 198 lines and can contain as many
as 200 FIELDS. Any FIELD can be used for search retrieval. For example, there
are several companies in the Client File: Westinghouse, General Electric,
Chrysler... To retrieve all of the information for clients working for
Westinghouse input "West" or "Westing" or "Westinghouse" in the company name ts the search pointer to the current RECORD, hence you cannot
retrieve the next RECORD in sequence by pressing F3 followed by Ctrl A).

This FORM was created by inserting lines of TEXT in the CLIENT FORM.
Now you will access the CLIENT FORM and see how INFO-BASE concurrently
accesses two DATABASES.
                           ********** PRESS "RETURN" twice **********

   Company Name Company Id #
Many different FORMS can access the same DATABASE, and two DATABASES (same
or different) with two FORMS (same or different) can be open concurrently.
You will now open the same DATABASE (logically two DATABASES will be open) and
access it with a different FORM.

Press F7 -- enter "CLIENT" for both the DATABASE response and the FORM
response; then press F7 again.

Each time you press F7 you switch between the DATABASES. There are two
other capabilities associated with having two DATABASES concurrently open.
They are transfer of DATA and DATA verification.

Make sure that you have retrieved a RECORD and that the FIELDS contain
information. Then press F7 (switch to the blank CLIENT FORM). By pressing F8
information is transferred between the FORMS and hence between the DATABASES.
The information is transferred between the FIELDS that have common LABELS (see
documentation page 11.). Not all of the FIELDS have LABELS hence, only part of
the information is transferred. **** PRESS "RETURN" ****

   Street address
The ability to transfer DATA between the FORMS (and DATABASES) greatly
reduces the amount of data input that is necessary.

The second capability associated with concurrently accessing two DATABASES
is DATA verification. DATA can be typed on both FORMS and INFO-BASE will
compare the DATA (via commonly LABELED FIELDS) for inconsistencies. If a
mistake is found INFO-BASE will beep, and position the cursor at the position
in both FORMS where the inconsistency has occurred. The input DATA can then be
checked and corrected. If there are no inconsistencies then the DATA can be
entered into the DATABASE.

Change the value of the ZIP FIELD. Then press F9. Press F7 and notice
where the cursor has moved. Try changing a few other FIELDS.

               ************** Press "RETURN" twice ******************

   City / State ZIP

Next the mailmerging and text re-adjustment capabilities of INFO-BASE are
demonstrated. Information directly from the CLIENT file will be used to send
personalized form letters.

Press Ctrl O (^O) -- type "FLETTERD" in response to the FORM request
