26 I. Introduction

The purpose of this program is the production of medium quality
slides and overhead transparancies (both refered to as sLides). A
sLide is created, edited, saved, displayed, and printed using
this program. Overhead transparancies are produced by copying
the printed output onto transparent material. Photographic
Slides are produced by photographing the printed output.

Each overhead transparancy contains up to 18 lines of up to 40
characters. For photographic slides, the number of lines must be
limited to 15. Each sLide can be displayed on the screen or
printed in two forms: a Quick Print at normal size and a High
Resolution Print at double size. Table 1 shows the size of each
of these outputs.

04 This program runs on an IBM PC or PC/XT with 128 kb memory,
a mono display, and the IBM Graphics printer or an Epson MX-80 or
MX-100 graphics printer. In addition DOS 2.0 is needed.

20 III Using the sLide System

04 If you have not initialized the sLide System Disk (SDD) and
04 the sLide Data Disk, PLEASE do so before proceeding. Refer
04 to section VI for initialization instructions.

04 Put the sLide System Disk (SSD) in the default drive and a
sLide Data Disk (SDD) in slide drive (drive A: as distributed).
Type SLIDE to initiate the program. After a TRY-BEFORE-BUY

19 IV. The Master Menu Options.

04 1. New sLide15 This option initiates the
31 definition of a new sLide. The
31 name of an sLide must contain
31 from 1 to 8 characters. The
31 allowable chatacters are A-Z,
31 0-9, and the dash (-).

04 2. Edit Existing sLide05 A previously defined sLide is
31 edited using this option.

04 3. Print sLide13 This option initiates the
31 printing (either Quick (1) or
31 High Resolution (2)) of 1 to 20
31 sLides. Type the name of each
31 sLide to be printed (each
31 followed by the ENTER key). The
31 list is terminated by pressing
31 the ENTER key one additional time.

04 4. Set Defaults12 Two defaults are defined: Printer
31 Type and SDD drive. This option
31 is selected to change either or
31 both of these defaults.

04 5. Display sLide11 The sLide will be displayed on
31 the screen. Normal or Reversed
31 image may be selected.

04 6. Stop20 Terminate this session of the use
31 of this program

(1) Quick Print11 The sLide is printed using normal
27 size type. It is centered on the
27 page and is enclosed within a border
27 outlining the sLide area.

(2) High Resolution Print The sLide is printed sidewise using
27 double size type. No border is
27 included.

24 Figure 2. Edit Screen

A sLide is created or edited within the area bounded by the "*"'s.
The cursor is moved within this screen area using the arrow keys.
The cursor movement will wrap in both directions, ie. using the up
arrow key with the cursor on line 1 will move the cursor to line 18
at the same column as on line 1. The location of the cursor is
shown at the bottom of the screen as Row05 (1-18) Column
(1-40).

The normal Function Keys provide a set of special characters needed
to draw lines, boxes, and interconnections. The SHIFTED Function
Keys provide special editing functions, automatic box generation and
deletion, special characters, and the saving of a sLide. Tables 2
and 3 list these special characters and functions.

13 VI. Preparing the sLide System Disk (SSD)
19 and the sLide Data Disk (SDD)

Initialize the sLide System Disk (SSD) and a sLide Data Disk
(SDD) as follows:

04 1.25 Format a system disk.

04 2.25 Copy the files from the supplied
31 disk onto this system disk (SDD)

04 3.25 Format a second disk to store
31 your slides (SDD).

Both the SSD and the SDD are now prepared for use.

Be sure to make a backup copy of the SSD at this time using the
DISKCOPY utility on your DOS disk.
