Disk No: 2003 Disk Title: Serial File Copy PC-SIG Version: S1.1 Program Title: Serial File Copy Author Version: 2.1 Author Registration: $25.00 Special Requirements: RS-232 Port, Null Modem Cable. SFC is a program for transferring files between MS-DOS computers using different types of disk drives, when the computers are connected through their serial (RS-232) ports by means of a null modem cable. SFC is for the individual who must occasionally transfer files between computers with 3.5" and 5.25" disk drives. Most commonly, this will be between laptop and desktop computers. Users who frequently must transfer large numbers of files should probably consider purchasing an additional diskette drive for one of their computers so that files may be copied directly, or in investing in a commercial file transfer program which has additional file handling facilities. SFC's price and performance are comparable to other shareware programs of the same type, such as ZIP.COM and BSR.EXE. Like ZIP.COM, SFC allows users to set parameters and options from menus. However, the "windowed" appearance of SFC is slightly more elegant (or, perhaps, simply less spartan) than that of ZIP.COM. BSR.EXE offers the advantage of a BASIC version which can be typed by the user, which SFC lacks. This feature overcomes the obstacle of getting a copy of the transfer program on both 3.5" and 5.25" diskettes before you can transfer other files. Registered users of SFC will receive copies of the program on 3.5" and 5.25" diskettes. However, this does not solve the problem of how one gets the program onto each type of media in order to evaluate it. High-speed file transfer capabilities (115200 and 57600 baud) is available with a registered version. PC-SIG 1030D East Duane Avenue Sunnyvale Ca. 94086 (408) 730-9291 (c) Copyright 1989 PC-SIG, Inc.
