If this is a registered version of Calendar Mate:
     =================================================

I would like to thank you very much for registering. To install
this version, simply copy CALENDAR.EXE and CALHELP.DAT to the
disk/directory where your shareware version resides.

The printed manual has a registration form in the back. If you're
already registered, you don't have to fill this form out again.
If you have any comments or suggestions, please don't hesitate
     to call or write.

If this is a trial version of Calendar Mate:
     ============================================

You should have the following files on the distribution diskette...

     CALENDAR.EXE - The program
CALEVENT.DAT - The data file (for colour monitors)
CALCOLOR.DAT - The data file (for colour monitors)
CALMONO.DAT - The data file (for monochrome monitors)
CALPARM.DAT - The system parameters file
CALHELP.DAT - The system Help file
CALMATE.DOC - The system documentation file.
     CONVPARM.EXE - A Parmfile conversion utility.
     ORDER.FRM - Convenient order form.
     READ.ME - This file.
EPSON.PRD - Printer Codes for Epson FX, RX, LX and compatibles
HPLJIIPP.PRD - Printer Codes for LaserJet II (portrait mode)
HPLJIIPL.PRD - Printer Codes for LaserJet II (landscape mode)
ROLAND.PRD - Printer Codes for Roland Printers

To start up Calendar Mate, type in CALENDAR

     * Initial Install of Calendar Mate *

If you have a monochrome monitor, copy the file called CALMONO.DAT to
CALEVENT.DAT to get window shadings more appropriate for monochrome
     monitors.

     COPY CALMONO.DAT CALEVENT.DAT

CALEVENT.DAT and CALCOLOR.DAT are identical files. They are both on
the diskette so that if you copy the CALMONO.DAT over CALEVENT.DAT
you still have a data file with default colours (in case you ever
     get a colour monitor).

     * Upgrading Install of Calendar Mate *
     ***************************************

If you are upgrading Calendar Mate and your existing program is
older than Version 2.1b (the EXE file is dated before 1/1/90) then
you'll have to run a program called CONVPARM. This program will
increase the size of the array that holds the printer control codes
that you define in option 5.1. The arrays have been increased from
8 bytes per command (a woefully small number if you have a LaserJet
     printer for instance) to 30.

If you forget to do this, the program will remind you.

     *          Printing Calendars                 *
     ***********************************************

(1) In order to print calendars, your printer has to be able to print
graphics characters. On the author's printer, (EPSON FX80 compatible)
the printer must be set to IBM GRAPHICS mode. Either mode I or mode II
     will work.

A printer can be put into IBM graphics mode in one of two ways...
Either by flipping a dip switch or sending it an initial setup
code. Neither way is particularly palatable from a research
perspective. If your printer doesn't print properly and you'd like
to persue it please drop the author a note on Compuserve (75130,1650)
or phone Hawk Software at (519) 741-0724. We may have your printer's
     codes on file by then!

If the printer isn't in the right mode, the calendar borders will
come out as numbers or letters when the borders should look like
     continuous lines.

(2) If you don't want (or are unable to) use double width characters and
find that there's a gap down the right hand border of the calendar on
the line where the month and year go, go into option 5.1 (printer parms)
and blank out the 'Double Width' and 'Undo Double' fields. Just leave
spaces there. The program will then print the line properly with the
border character in the proper spot.

     * Changes from previous versions *
     ***********************************************

As one starts a business and learns the ways of the world, it becomes
apparent that organization is of paramount importance. Unfortunately,
I have made a number of changes since October 11, 1989 (the release
date of Calendar Mate 2.0) and haven't logged them all. You may find
them and you may not -- a number of changes were to subtle bugs in the
program. Here are some of the others...

     - You can add early warnings to non-repeating events

     - Some of the windows have been centered on the screen for appearance.

     - In Option 3 (Look at Events file), pressing the F8 key will sort
the file by date or event name (whichever it currently isn't).

     - In 5.2, if you have Immediate Purge set to 'yes' you MUST have
Autosort set to yes as well. This is now enforced by the program.

     - Prior to version 2.1b, the print calendar routine wouldn't check the
year so non-repeating events would appear on subsequent year's
       calendars. This has been fixed.

     - When printing a calendar that has 6 weeks (such as December 1989),
if you have set the system parms file (5.2) to print 132 columns wide,
the program will ask you if you want to shrink the boxes vertically.
If you ask it to do so, each box will be 4 lines high instead of 5.
This will allow a calendar to print nicely using a certain commercial
       sideways printing product.

     - The julian date on the main menu should have 3 characters after the
       decimal point. i.e. January 1, 1990 is 90.001 and not 90.1

     - There was sometimes a problem printing directly to a printer. A
line feed would be issued but no carriage return. This has been
       fixed.

     - Some printer drivers are now supplied. Option 5.1 now has a further
menu asking whether you want to use an existing driver or change
the codes you have yourself. Have a look. It's pretty straight
       forward.

     - When you set up the printer codes, if you choose F10 to test them
and your printer is 'not ready', the program will now detect it and
       warn you.
