            to all directories deleting files *.bak etc prior to running the
            check disk command. e.g.
            CLEAN.BAT   =    PATH=C:\
                             CD \WS
                             DEL *.BAK

WRITING AND EXECUTING BATCH FILES IN DOSLOCK
============================================

Batch files are very important to the running of any system and have in the
past been a problem with password programs. This is no longer the case
with DOSLOCK.
      Set up batch files in the usual way.
      Remember always that DOSLOCK SETS UP THE PATHS FOR ALL PROGRAMS
           WHICH ARE EXECUTABLE i.e. all programs ending in .COM or .EXE.

      Batch files MUST reside in C:\ directory.

      Batch files using common command files found in other directories must
      have the path name entered at the front of the file.

          e.g.       MYFILE.BAT     PATH=C:\;C:\USER
                                    CD \USER\BIN
                                    1STPROG
                                    2NDPROG
      Where the first program is located in the directory c:\ and the second
      program is located in the Directory C:\USER.
                                                               Page 12

BATCH FILES (CONTINUED)
=======================

Batch files can be very important if you wish to do things like turn programs
such as TurboLighting On and Off which can be done with the parameter /k.

Using a batch file could first turn Lightning ON - run the program - then
turn Lightning OFF.   e.g.

        FREEDEX.BAT     PATH C:\LIGHT
                        LIGHT
                        FREE
                        LIGHT  /K

        NEWTAPE.BAT    PATH C:\TG
                       DTAPE /A

    DOSLOCK stores TWO peices of information about the applications you
want to run from any menu. It stores where the APPLICATION is (this is
stored only once) and where it will RUN the application from (this is
stored for every option on every menu). So, two people can run the
same application from separate directories.

NOTES ON MAKING COMMANDS AVAILABLE:-
    LOGOUT automatically placed in each list:-
    ACCESS to DOS is controlled by DOSLOCK and needs no extension.

Other programs:-   e.g.
CHKDSK.COM allows a user to check the disk space used and convert lost
               clusters to files with the "/F" parameter.
               You may wish to give this to some users. However they cannot
               delete the clusters when converted, which you may give in a
               batch file called DELCLUST.BAT
               When answering the parameter question you answer "Y"= Yes
               This allows the user to specify the "/F" parameter, OR to even
               check a disk in the "A:" drive by passing the parameter "A:/F"

DELCLUST.BAT   Could be given also:-
               This batch file would include the following lines
                     DEL *.CHK     <one line only
               As the files *.CHK & the batch files are both in root there
                  is no need to speficy a path.
               When answering the path question insert "C:\"
               When answering the parameter question answer "N"=No
                                                                     Page 23

AUTOMATIC BACK & RESTORE - to A: DRIVE ONLY
============================================
When adding an item to the menu line you will be prompted to give the file
names for those file which are to be backed up.

The same rules apply as there are for the command line Backup & Restore.
Should you wish to have one operator only create files with a specific
extension, you may have these files only backed up.
    E.G. If you were using the HAXTON FREEDEX package you would only
         need to back up the files with the extension *.DAT -
         in this instance specify *.DAT

   THIS FACILITY PASSES THE PARAMETERS SET UP BY THE SUPERVISOR TO THE
        COMMAND LINE FOR BOTH BACKUP AND RESTORE.

TO USE ----- BACKUP OR RESTORE
   The individual operator need not even know what is going on. All they
   need to know is that they put the disks in the A: drive and backup.

   When the reverse video cursor is at a command, the bottom line of the
   text window will display <ctrl> B to BACKUP <ctrl> R to RESTORE

THE OPERATOR MUST HAVE A FORMATTED DISK READY TO PERFORM THIS TASK.
                                                                     Page 24

PARAMETER PASSING
=================

Some files need parameters passed to them such a FILESIZE, FORMAT, CHKDSK

You have two options depending on the ability of the user allowed to use the
command.
(a) Experienced user - you answer "Y" to parameter passing and allow them
        to use the command.

(b) Inexperienced users - place the command required in a BATCH FILE.

        E.G.   COPYMARY.BAT        COPY C:\MARY\*.MAR A:

(c) To allow a user to get a sorted windowed directory you may add.
               DIRWINDO.BAT         DIR c:\mary|SORT|MORE

(d) To format a disk in the "A" drive with a Volume Label:-
              NEWDISK.BAT           FORMAT A:/?/V

                                                                     Page 27

STANDARD TEXT
=============

You may like to save time by placing standard text into DOSLOCK prior to
installation. This is particularly helpfull if you are placing DOSLOCK on
several machines each containing the same programs or batch files which you
wish to make standard.

After your first installation of DOSLOCK and prior to the next copy the file
    copy  c:\standard.hlp a:
                   This will copy over all the standard program help windows
                   that you have created and save you doing it the second time.

Use STANDARD.COM create the text files prior to loading DOSLOCK.
If there is standard text either created by us or by you in STANDARD.HLP
DOSLOCK will tell you so.

You may accept the standard text and continue, or enter a new text for that
particular command for each user.

You may customise your help windows to suit your own usage, however if you
wish to have several people with access to the same program, you should
specify that the standard text is used.
                                                                     Page 29

ADDING & CHANGING PASSWORDS AND SALUTATIONS
===========================================

The installer or SUPERVISOR can change the PASSWORD or ADDRESSED AS for any
persons on the system by entering the previous password and then making
the changes .

This is done in the program USEREDIT.COM

  ÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛUSEREDIT COMÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛÛ
  Û                                          Û
  Û USEREDIT enables the user to change the Û
  Û password or how the user is addressed on Û
  Û his menu. If you alter the ADDRESSED AS Û
  Û field, the change will also appear in Û
  Û the logbook, so there is no hard copy of Û
  Û the passwords. You should keep a record Û

THE SUPERVISOR
==============

The supervisor has a menu like any other user, but he or she has
DOS as one of the available programs.
If a supervisor requests DOS then the operating system is made available.
To return to DOSLOCK after a call to the operating system, the supervisor
must type the command "DOSLOCK" when the DOS prompt is displayed.
