THIS FILE CONTAINS THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR LOADING AND USING THE
SPECIAL DEMO VERSIONS OF MOUSE MENUS DESIGNED FOR WORDSTAR 2000.
THE APPLICABLE FILES ARE LISTED IN THE TEXT BELOW.

THERE IS AN ORDER FORM AT THE END OF THIS DOCUMENT.

HOW TO USE YOUR MOUSE MENU FOR WORDSTAR 2000

The menu was specifically designed for use with MicroPro
Wordstar 2000, ver 2.00. although it may work satisfactorily
          with other versions.

                                    REQUIREMENTS

You must have a Microsoft, Logitech or compatible mouse in
order to use this software correctly. It is designed and tested
for use with WORDSTAR 2000 VER. 2.00 using DOS 3.2 on an IBM PC,
          XT, AT, or compatibles.

                             THE KBM MOUSEMENUS PROVIDED

There are 7 demo files available. They are as follows.

Four versions of the mousemenu provided for use with
Wordstar 2000. Two of them are for use with 3 button Logitech
and Logitech compatible mice. Two of them are for use with
Microsoft 2 button mice and compatibles. There are two versions
of the Menu for each type of mouse. One is a long version which
can be used with all of the word processing functions and menus,
contains an opening menu, and is very intelligent in determining
where it is in the WS2000 program. The other is a short version
of the same program which is for use only in the editor. I
recommend you use the long version unless you absolutely need the
additional 4K of memory the short version makes available. The
filenames and their application are as follows:

DLWS2LNG.MNU: This is the long version of the Logitech
          compatible menu.

DLWS2SHT.MNU: This is the short version of the Logitech
          compatible menu.

DWS2LNG.MNU: This is the long version of the Microsoft
          compatible menu.

DWS2SHRT.MNU: This is the short version of the Microsoft
          compatible menu.

The other three files you will need are:

DMSMNU.COM: This file is used with the Microsoft menus.

DWS2READ.ME: That is the name of this file.

DPRNREAD.BAT: Use this file to print out this manual

                           --------GETTING STARTED--------

          INSTALLING THE MENU

The short versions of these menus are not nearly as clean as
the long version but will save you about 4K of memory. The short
version does not contain an opening menu, you cannot use the
mouse to choose a file, and it gets "lost", which means that an
inappropriate menu can pop up any time you hit a mouse button.
It does, however, contain all of the commands you would need in
the editor, which is what you will probably need 90% of the time.
I recommend the long version unless you absolutely need the
additional 4K of memory. The following instructions are written
for the long version with the SHORT MENU VERSION OF THE
          INSTRUCTIONS IN PARENTHESES.

NOTE: IF YOU HAVE OTHER RAM RESIDENT PROGRAMS BESIDES THE
MOUSE DRIVER AND ARE GETTING FLAKY RESULTS TRY CHANGING THE ORDER
IN WHICH THEY ARE INSTALLED. I personally have found things work
the best if I install the mouse driver FIRST.

THE FILE NAMES USED BELOW ARE VERY SIMILAR. MAKE SURE YOU
          ARE USING THE RIGHT FILE.

                                 -----LOGITECH-----

IF YOU HAVE A LOGITECH C7 OR COMPATIBLE MOUSE READ THIS SECTION.
IF YOU HAVE A MICROSOFT MOUSE OR COMPATIBLE SKIP TO THAT SECTION.

NOTE: IF YOU ARE USING NORTON COMMANDER OR SOME OTHER RAM
RESIDENT UTILITIES WHICH ALSO USE A MOUSE THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE
MAY NOT WORK. MOVE ON TO THE SECTION ON MORE PERMANENT
          INSTALLATIONS.

NOTE: IF THE LOGITECH PROGRAM "MENU.COM" HAS ALREADY BEEN
LOADED WITHOUT THE /12 (/8) OPTION THERE WILL NOT BE ENOUGH
MEMORY ALLOCATED AND THE WS2000 MENUS WILL NOT LOAD. YOU MUST
REBOOT THE SYSTEM AND LOAD THE "MENU PROGRAM WITH THE /12 (/8)
          OPTION.

IF "MENU" IS IN YOUR AUTOEXEC.BAT FILE CHANGE IT TO READ
"MENU /12" ("MENU /8"). IF THERE IS ALREADY A NUMBER AFTER THE /
AND IT IS LARGER THAN 12 (8), THEN IT IS OK. LEAVE IT ALONE.

Copy DLWS2LNG.MNU (DLWS2SHT.MNU) in to the same directory
or disk as your Logitech mouse files. Now, while you are in that
disk or directory:(Do not type type.)

               Type "MOUSE" <ENTER>

               Type "MENU /12" <ENTER> ("MENU /8" <ENTER>)

               Type "MENU DLWS2LNG" <ENTER> ("MENU DLWS2SHT" <ENTER>)

NOTE: "MOUSE" AND "MENU" are RAM resident. If you want to
remove them from memory after you are done with WS2000 you must
reboot the system by typing <ctrl-alt-del> or by turning off the
computer and turning it back on again.

The menu is now loaded and you may load WS2000 as you
normally would but when you are done you must return to the disk
or directory with MOUSE.COM and type MENU OFF to disable the
menu. Proceed to the section USING THE MOUSE MENU.
If you want a more permanent and easier to use installation
          read the next section.

          LOGITECH MORE PERMANENT INSTALLATIONS.

If you are using the mouse only with WS2000 copy the
following files onto the disk or directory which has your WS2000
program files, or else make sure these files are all included in
your PATH when you start WS2000:

          Logitech files:

               MOUSE.COM
               MENU.COM

          Mousemenu file:

               DLWS2LNG.MNU (DLWS2SHT.MNU)

Create the following batch file and keep it in the same
directory or on the same disk where you normally start WS2000.
you can use WS2000 to create the file. Make sure you use the
UNFORM.FRM format. I suggest you name the file WS2MOUSE.BAT.
You can give it another name if you like but is must have the
.BAT extension. The file should read exactly as follows:

          MOUSE
          MENU /12 (MENU /8)

                                          3

          MENU DLWS2LNG (MENU DLWS2SHT)
          WS2
          MENU OFF

Now, when you want to start WS2000 type WS2MOUSE instead of
WS2, and the menu will automatically be installed.

If you want to keep the mouse files on a seperate disk from
WS2000 then follow the instructions above but create the
          following WS2MOUSE.BAT file:

          MOUSE
          MENU /12 (MENU /8)
          MENU DLWS2LNG (MENU DLWS2SHT)
          ECHO ON
PAUSE Please put in your WS2000 disk now and strike any key.
          WS2
PAUSE Please put in your MENU.COM disk now and strike any key.
          MENU OFF

This will do exactly the same as the file above but will
pause for you to change disks.

NOTE: "MOUSE" AND "MENU" are RAM resident. If you want to
remove them from memory after you are done with WS2000 you must
reboot the system by typing <ctrl-alt-del> at the same time or by
turning off the computer and turning it back on again.

If you are using Logitech's CLICK mouse control, then you
would rename DLWS2LNG.MNU (DLWS2SHT.MNU) WS2.MNU and follow the
instructions in your Logitech manual for modifying the CLICK
files to automatically load this menu.

          DIFFERENCES

There are a few differences between the long, short,
Microsoft, and Logitech versions which I will explain first. If
you are using one of the short versions of these programs then
you will not have the opening menus. There will be a section
which you can skip which talks about these features.

If you are using the Microsoft versions it is set up for a
two button mouse and you will not have all of the button features
available to the Logitech users. The instruction are written for
          3 button mice.

IF YOU HAVE A 2 BUTTON MOUSE PRESS BOTH BUTTONS WHEN THE
INSTRUCTIONS CALL FOR THE CENTER BUTTON TO BE PUSHED. IGNORE ALL
INSTRUCTIONS WHICH CALL FOR PRESSING TWO OR MORE BUTTONS AT THE
          SAME TIME.

          OPENING MENUS

Short version users skip to the EDITOR MENUS section.

Pressing any button once will cause the opening copyright
information to be displayed. Pressing it again will open the
main menu. Here you will see all the choices which are normally
available in the WS2 menu, but they are all on one screen and
they are in inverse video. You make your selection by moving the
mouse around until the selection you want is highlighted. Then
press any button to make the selection. For example place the
highlight on "EDIT" and press a button and you will move to the
"Choose a file to edit" submenu.

As a general rule, while you are in any one of these
submenus the mouse will act as follows:

If you are in a submenu which allows you to make a selection
by using the arrow [cursor] keys, moving the mouse will have the
same effect. Otherwise moving the mouse will have no effect.

The buttons will work as follows:

The LEFT button will act as the <ENTER> key.
The RIGHT button will take you to the help screen for that
          menu.
The MIDDLE button (BOTH buttons on two button mouse.
Remember?) will act the same as the <ESC> key and return you to
the previous menu or exit you from the help screen.

               Remember: LEFT <ENTER>
                          RIGHT Get help
                          MIDDLE <ESC>

NOTE: SOMETIMES THE MOUSE HAS TO FIGURE OUT WHERE IT IS.
THIS MEANS YOU WILL HAVE TO PUSH THE BUTTON TWICE IN ORDER TO GET
A RESPONSE. This can be disconcerting at first but you will
quickly learn when one "click" will do and when you need two.

If you are still in the Edit submenu try moving the mouse
around to select a file. Click the RIGHT button to enter help.
Click the MIDDLE (both) button to <ESC> from Help.

When you are ready, highlight your choice or type in a new
filename. Then press the LEFT button or the <ENTER> key.

NOTE: THE ONLY TIME YOU CANNOT USE THE REGULAR WS2000
FUNCTIONS IS WHEN YOU HAVE A MOUSEMENU OPEN. AT ALL OTHER TIMES
YOU CAN TOTALLY IGNORE THE MOUSE AND USE WS2000 AS IF THE MOUSE
          MENU WAS NOT INSTALLED.

                               -----EDITOR MENUS-----

It is important that you experiment with the mouse and get
comfortable with how it works. Particularly if you have never
used a mouse before. If you do not already have a file open and
ready edit please not do so now. Preferably one that is at least
a page long so that you can get a feel for how the mouse moves.
If it is an important document copy it first so you will feel
comfortable messing up this "practice page". AS A MATTER OF
FACT, WHY NOT MAKE A COPY OF THIS INSTRUCTION MANUAL AND LOAD IT
INTO WS2000 SO YOU CAN PLAY WITH IT AS YOU READ ALONG!! We can
even use the mouse to do it.

If you are using a short version of the program the mouse will
not help you once you leave the editor, follow the same procedure
          using the keyboard commands.

To return to the opening menu from the editor just press the
middle button until the menu opens at the top of the screen.
Move the mouse until the ^Quit menu is highlighted and press
          any 1 button.
Choose Save Changes by moving the mouse up or down. When
you have highlighted your selection press a button.
This will return you to the opening menu.
Now press the middle button until the mouse menu appears,
move the mouse until Copy is highlighted and press a button.
This should put you in the Choose a file to copy menu.
Move the mouse until you have highlighted DWS2READ.ME and
press the LEFT button to select it. Now type in the name of the
file you want to copy it to. Let's call it MOUSE.EXP. Now press
<ENTER>, or the LEFT button on the mouse to copy the file. This
will return us to the opening menu again.
Press the middle mouse button to open the menu, press it
again to select Edit, move the mouse to highlight MOUSE.EXP and
press the LEFT mouse button to select it. This should now put
you back in the editor with the file MOUSE.EXP.

          MOUSE MOVEMENT

The first thing to note is that when you are in the editor
moving the mouse has the same effect as the arrow keys, but the
functions of all the buttons changes. When you are in the editor
and have no function windows open (such as the Locate text
window). The mouse buttons are as follows:

          LEFT BUTTON

The LEFT button toggles the horizontal and vertical SPEED at
which the CURSOR moves when you move the mouse. When it is set
one way the mouse will move very QUICKLY up and down the PAGE but
very SLOWLY back and forth across a LINE.

Try it. Move the mouse around, then push LEFT button and
see what happens. It takes a little getting used to, but once
you do you will find this makes it very easy to quickly locate
the cursor just where you want it.

          RIGHT BUTTON

The RIGHT button toggles the cursor from wherever it is on a
LINE to either the BEGINNING or the END of the line. Once again
this helps to get the cursor quickly to exactly where we want it
to go. Go ahead and give it a try. Put the cursor on a full
line and click the RIGHT button several times and watch what
happens. The cursor should move from the beginning to the end of

                                          8

          the line.

MIDDLE BUTTON (BOTH BUTTONS ON A TWO BUTTON MOUSE.)

The MIDDLE button opens a BAR MENU at the top of the screen.
This menu corresponds to all of the CONTROL key functions
normally used in WS2000 and found in the editing menu but it
takes up only the top two lines of the screen. In addition there
are a couple of extra menus you can use. One not so obvious,
called the ^KEY menu and the other obvious one called Help/Menus.

Go ahead and try it. Push the middle button and watch the
menu appear at the top of the screen. Notice that Help/Menus is
highlighted. Push ANY ONE BUTTON and notice that another, pull
down style menu, appears. This one says:

                                      "----ESCAPE----"
                                         "GET HELP"
                                         "NO MENUS"
                                      "SUBMENUS ONLY"
                                        "ALL MENUS"

IMPORTANT: AFTER YOU HAVE OPENED A MENU ALWAYS USE ONLY ONE
BUTTON TO MAKE A SELECTION. USING TWO BUTTONS AUTOMATICALLY
CLOSES A MENU AND MAY LEAVE A CONTROL KEY FUNCTION SELECTED BUT
UNFINISHED. THIS CAN HAVE UNPREDICTABLE RESULTS. EACH OF THE
MENUS HAS AN ---ESCAPE--- SELECTION. ALWAYS USE THIS TO EXIT A
          MENU WITHOUT TAKING ANY ACTION.

If you should accidentally exit a menu by hitting two
buttons at the same time check the upper left corner of the
screen for the ^ caret sign followed by a letter. If it is there
then press <ESC> to clear it before you continue.

Escape has been placed at the top of the list deliberately
in this menu. If you accidentally open the main menu simply
pressing any button twice will get you back to the editor. Go
          ahead and press a button.

          REMEMBER:
               LEFT BUTTON CHANGES CURSOR MOVEMENT
RIGHT BUTTON TOGGLES CURSOR TO END OR BEGINNING OF LINE.
MIDDLE BUTTON OPENS EDITING BAR MENU

The next section is for 3 button mouse users.

IF YOU ARE USING A 2 BUTTON MOUSE SKIP THIS SECTION AND GO TO
          "USING THE PULL DOWN MENUS"..

The notation convention is as follows:

                                          9

Two button names with a dash in the middle means push both
the buttons at the same time, for example LEFT-MIDDLE means push
both the left mouse button and the middle mouse button at the
          same time.

If you have a three button mouse you also have the following
          very valuable options:

               LEFT-MIDDLE will BEGIN a BLOCK
               RIGHT-MIDDLE will END a BLOCK
LEFT-RIGHT will OPEN the BLOCK MENU directly, bypassing the
          bar menu.

Since the BLOCK commands are some of the most frequently
used of all the commands learn to use these button combinations.
They can be a real time saver. Go ahead and give them a try.

The following combinations are also very useful:

LEFT-MIDDLE-RIGHT twice will CHANGE the functions of the
          LEFT and RIGHT buttons to:

                           LEFT button Pg Up
                           RIGHT button Pg Dn
MIDDLE button RETURNS all buttons to the
                           ORIGINAL settings

Note that it is sometimes necessary to press all three
buttons twice to make the conversion so it is good practice to
always press them twice before attempting a Pg Up or Pg Dn with
the left and right buttons. When restoring with the middle
button, however, only press it once. Pressing twice will open
          the edit menu.

                         -----USING THE PULL DOWN MENUS-----

We have already used one of the pull down menus to Quit and
save. Now lets take a look at some of the other menus. For the
most part we will look at the special commands in this section
which are not a part of the regular WS2000 menus. If you order a
registered copy of this software you will receive complete
documentation of all of the menu commands.

          HELP/MENUS

This special menu does three things.

               1. It allows a quick ESC from the bar menu in case you enter
it by accident. Just keep pressing a button until you exit. IT

                                         10

ALSO CAN BE USED TO ESCAPE FROM SUBMENUS. For example if you had
the ^Locate text window open and wanted to ESC from you could do
it two ways. You could press the <ESC> key, or you could press
the MIDDLE mouse button 3 times. NOT ALL OF THE ---ESCAPE---S ON
THE OTHER MENUS WILL DO THIS.

               2. It provides entry into the Help screens. While in the
Help screens the LEFT and RIGHT buttons act the same as the
SPACEBAR. The MIDDLE button acts as <ESC>.

               3. It provides a quick way to set the MENU levels. Let's
turn off all the menus now, since we won't need them with the
mouse. Press the MIDDLE button to open the bar menu. Press any
button to open the Help/Menus menu. Move the mouse to highlight
NO MENUS and press a button. Voila!! All of the commands
necessary to change the menu level are executed.

          ^OPTIONS MENU

There is one special feature on the ^Options menu and that
is on the SPELLING submenu. You can select check ENTIRE
DOCUMENT. This option is not available on The WS2000 menu.
Let's look at it. Press the MIDDLE key to open the bar menu.
Move the mouse to highlight ^Options and press a button.
SPELLING CHECK is the first item on the menu and is already
highlighted so press a button again and this will open the
SPELLCHECK WHAT? menu. Note the fourth item is ENTIRE DOCUMENT.
We don't want to spellcheck right now so move the mouse to
highlight ---ESCAPE---, and press a button.

          ^CURSOR MENU

In the ^Cursor menu under MARKER SET 0-9 and 0-9, GO TO
MARKER a submenu will open with the numbers 0-9 there to select.

          ^NEXT LOCATE

When you execute ^Next locate from the bar menu the function
of the LEFT button CHANGES. Pushing the LEFT button opens small
menu so you can quickly go to the ^Next locate. Using EXIT
LOCATE, or pushing either of the other buttons restores the LEFT
          button to its normal function.

          ^TABS AND MARGINS

The MARGINS ON PAGE command on the ^Tabs & margins menu
opens a submenu. If you select --VIEW SETTINGS-- you can view
all the settings, and even select one to change, BUT AFTER YOU
HAVE MADE THIS SELECTION THE NEXT TIME YOU PUSH A MOUSE BUTTON
THE FIRST THING THAT WILL HAPPEN IS ALL MENUS WILL BE TURNED OFF.

          ^KEY GLOSSARY --- ^KEY

                                         11

The ^Key file is available in the long version of the menu
          only.

^Key glossary works in the same way as it does in WS2000,
but note that you can also HIGHLIGHT THE WORD ^KEY BY ITSELF TO
BRING UP A SEPARATE MENU. This allows you to execute 5 ^Key
glossary macros using the mouse. You do this by NAMING your
          macros KEY1, KEY2, KEY3, KEY4, OR KEY5. You must still make sure
you are at the beginning of a line before you execute one of
these macros or it will simply type the the macro name on the
          line.

          ^QUIT

The last extra little menu that you need to know about
happens if you choose ABANDON CHANGES from the ^Quit menu. If
you have made changes you will be asked, "This document has
changed. Abandon changes? (Y/N) N ". If you encounter this menu
pressing the LEFT mouse button will bring up a menu for you to
make this decision from. BE CAREFUL because the first choice on
the menu is to abandon the changes.

This concludes the section on special functions.
