Ponderosa Software intends to vigorously prosecute any and all copyright violations. ************************************** * SETPRINT Installation Instructions * ************************************** SETPRINT has been designed for use in an IBM PC-compatible environment: 1. At least 256KB memory, 2. A hard disk, (RECOMMENDED) 3. A printer (80 column or wider) 4. MS-DOS or PC-DOS, version 2.1 or later. All of the programs, batch files, and files that are required in order to install SETPRINT are contained in the installation diskette. The following installation procedure should be used as stated if file drive C is the default hard disk. Installation: ------------ 1. Boot DOS. ALT-CTRL-DEL (or power OFF/power ON) 2. Make drive C the current drive. C: Enter 3. Make the root directory the current directory. CD \ Enter 4. Create a new sub-directory, SETPRINT. MD \SETPRINT Enter 5. Copy the installation diskette to the new SETPRINT sub-directory. COPY A:*.* \SETPRINT Enter Running SETPRINT: ---------------- SETPRINT has now been installed and is ready to run. However, in order to make it easier to use, it is recommended that a batch file be created that will change directory to the SETPRINT sub-directory and execute the SETPRINT batch contained therein. To do this, create a batch file containing the following commands: C: Enter CD \SETPRINT Enter SETPRINT Enter *********************************** * SETPRINT Operating Instructions * *********************************** SETPRINT is simple to use. There is a MAIN MENU that offers five processing selections: 1. SELET PRINTER PITCH & WEIGHT 2. SELECT SPECIAL PRINTER MODE 3. SELECT A FILE TO PRINT 4. RESET PRINTER PITCH/WEIGHT/MODE 5. PRINT PITCH/WEIGHT/MODE EXAMPLES When you want to make a selection from the MAIN MENU, enter the selec- tion number (i.e., "1", "2", "3", "4" or "5"). Depending upon which of the five options you have selected, one of the following will occur: Selection Result 1. A screen titled "PITCH-- WEIGHT" will be displayed. 2. A screen titled "SPECIAL MODES" will be displayed. 3. A screen titled "FILE SELECTION" will be displayed. 4. SETPRINT will reset your printer and all "CURRENT SELECTIONS". 5. SETPRINT will print a sample report of all pitch- weights and special modes. As indicated in the lower right corner of the screen pressing the following function keys will : "F01 SET MODE & PRINT" Sets the modes and prints as indicated in the "CURRENT SELECTIONS" column. "F09 SET MODE & EXIT " Sets the modes as indicated in the "CURRENT SELECTIONS" column and exits SETPRINT. This will leave your printer set in the mode you selected until you do a reset with SETPRINT or turn the printer power off. "F10 RESET & EXIT " Resets your printer to its power on defaults and exits SETPRINT. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ PITCH--WEIGHT screen: This is the screen you use to select the pitch and weight codes. All pitches are numbered down the left side from 1 through eight. All weights are numbered one thorough four. Note that some pitches do not have all weights available for selection and are labeled N/A. A valid selection would be pitch:4 weight:3 (COMPRESSED ELITE - DOUBLE STRIKE). An invalid pitch-weight would be pitch:4 weight:2. This would result in "ERROR" flashing on the screen to indicate an invalid PITCH-WEIGHT. Your correct selection will be displayed on the main menu screen in the "CURRENT SELECTIONS" column. Pressing F10 will exit this screen as indicated in the lower right corner of this screen. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SPECIAL MODES screen: This screen allows you to select "SPECIAL" print modes. Any special mode may be mixed with any pitch-weight mode. A example would be to select SUBSCRIPT with compressed single strike pitch-weight. Your correct selection will be displayed on the main menu screen in the "CURRENT SELECTIONS" column. Pressing F10 will exit this screen as indicated in the lower right corner of this screen. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FILE SELECTION screen: Use this screen to enter the full qualified file name that you want to print. An example would be "C:\SETPRINT\SAMPLE1.DAT". If SETPRINT can not find the file an error message will be displayed. Three sample print files have been provided for examples of the many features available in SETPRINT. They are named : SAMPLE1.DAT SAMPLE2.DAT SAMPLE3.DAT Your correct selection will be displayed on the main menu screen in the "CURRENT SELECTIONS" column. Pressing F10 will exit this screen as indicated in the lower right corner of this screen. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ADDITIONAL FEATURES : In addition to the selections available on your screen SETPRINT will also accept various control statements imbeded in the file you are printing. All control statements must begin in the first position of the record and will not appear in your printed listing. *SH - TELLS SETPRINT TO PROMPT YOU TO LOAD A SINGLE SHEET IN THE PRINTER AT EACH NEW PAGE. SETPRINT WILL ALSO TURN OFF THE PRINTER END OF FORMS SWITCH. THIS OPTION IS ONLY SPECIFIED ONCE AND IF USED MUST BE THE FIRST RECORD IN THE PRINT FILE. THE DEFAULT SETTING IS CONTINOUS FORMS. *PG - TELLS SETPRINT TO DO A FORM FEED. IF *SH WAS PREVIOUSLY SPECIFIED SETPRINT WILL PROMPT YOU TO LOAD A SINGLE SHEET, OTHERWISE CONTINOUS FORMS ARE ASSUMED AND NO PROMPT WILL BE ISSUED. *PGLH - ACTS THE SAME AS *PG EXCEPT THIS OPTION TELLS SETPRINT TO PROMPT YOU TO LOAD A LETTER HEAD SINGLE SHEET IF *SH WAS PREVIOUSLY SPECIFIED. *SKNN - TELLS SETPRINT TO WRITE NN BLANK LINES WHERE NN = 01 THRU 99. *TIHN - THIS OPTION ALLOWS THE USER TO INCLUDE UP TO 5 HEADING LINES IN THE PRINT FILE. THE HEADING INFORMATION TO BE PRINTED CAN START IN POSITION 6 OF THE CONTROL RECORD. THE HEADING INFORMATION WILL BE PRINTED ON EVERY NEW PAGE (*PG). ALL HEADING LINES SHOULD BE AT THE FRONT OF THE PRINT FILE AND AFTER *SH IF USED. EXAMPLE : *TIH1 THIS IS HEADING LINE 1 *TIH2 THIS IS HEADING LINE 2 *TIH3 THIS IS HEADING LINE 3 *PCNN - THIS OPTION ALLOWS YOU TO SET VARIOUS PRINT MODES. SET THE PITCH-WEIGHT MODES BY REPLACING NN WITH THE SELECTION CODES ENTERED ON THE PITCH-WEIGHT SCREEN. SET THE SPECIAL MODES BY REPLACING NN WITH THE MENU ITEM NUMBER ON THE SPECIAL MODES SELECT SCREEN. USE *PC99 TO RESET THE PRINTER. EXAMPLE : *PC14 WILL SET PICA DOUBLE STRIKE EMPHASIZED *PC53 WILL SET EXPANDED PICA DOUBLE STRIKE
