Disk No: 1273 Program Title: VISUAL DISPLAY EDITOR (VDE) PC-SIG version: 1 VDE is a small, fast, powerful text editor offering: Dual file editing, wordwrap and reformat, append to existing file, margins, tabs, spacing, pure ASCII mode, block operations, find and replace, undelete functions, macro programs, programmable keys, subdirectory support, full DOS utilities, WordStar compatibility, configurable options and more! VDE is small. About 30K, with no additional files, and it can work with as little as 128K RAM. This makes it ideal for laptop computers with limited space. VDE is fast. Written in 8086 assembler, it writes directly to video RAM and operates entirely in memory with no disk access during editing. Speed is a factor that more cumbersome ("full-featured?") programs overlook. Example: finding a string near the end of a 60K nondocument file takes WordStar 4 about 20 seconds [8 MHz 8088]; VDE does it in half a second. Usage: Word Processing. Special Requirements: A printer for hard copy. How to Start: Type GO (press enter). Suggested Registration: None. File Descriptions: VDE122 EXE VDE Editor. EXAMPLES VDK Sample macros.
