Getting Started with the SBW Tutor_By_Example (tm)

The first thing you should do is to backup the distribution
diskettes and store the distribution diskettes away in a safe
place. Use only the copy for all operations.

Getting started with the Tutor diskette

Before you can begin the execution of SBW, you must print out
a copy of the Tutor_By_Example (tm) text. The file named PRINTEXT.BAT
is designed to help you to do this. Simply type the name PRINTEXT
at the DOS prompt and all of the Tutor_By_Example text will be
printed for you. When the system displays "Name of list device
[PRN]:", hit the return key to accept the default. This batch file
uses the DOS command PRINT.COM (from your DOS disk, copy it to the
Tutor_By_Example disk, if space permits) to actually do the printing
and it has an upper limit of 10 files that can be queued up at once.
There is therefore a pause after each group of print requests to allow
the queue to empty out, after which you must hit any key to allow
printing to continue. If you key these commands in manually, you can
print in the background, and be using your computer to do something
else (provided of course that the something else doesn't require the
printer).

SYSTEM FOR BUSINESS & THE WORKPLACE (SBW)
--------------------------------

The disk labeled System for Business & Workplace (SBW) Disk is an integrated
business application system using dBASE III Plus that is described and
documented in the Tutor_By_Example Disk. The five modules that compose
SBW include:
         -Customer Information Systems
         -Human Resource Management
         -Accounting
         -Inventory Management & Order Processing
         -Production Planning & Operations

To run the System, you need to have the dbase disk in drive A or C and in
drive B the project disk. At the dot prompt of dBASE (.) type:
SET DEFAULT TO B: and press RETURN
                DO SYSMENU and press RETURN.

Follow along with the Tutor_By_Example to learn how to run SBW.
The SBW is further explained in the book DATABASE MANAGEMENT A
MICROCOMPUTER APPROACH by McNichols. To order please contact
Prentice Hall (1-800-526-0485).
