After an environmental holocaust of devastating proportions, the population hovers slightly above the zero mark. The rich have fled to the underground, where they have formed corporate enclaves. Above ground the desolate cities and desert wastelands are inhabited by a feral population of freaks and survivors. With 98% of the population dead there's a lot of cars around just waiting to get driven into the ground. The ferals started the Powersliding competition, the corporates banned it. It's dangerous, it's illegal, it kicks butt. Powerslide is extreme off-road racing. ****************************************************************************** Powerslide Features ****************************************************************************** - Close competitive single and multiplayer racing - Realistic car handling - The world's fastest graphics engine optimised for 3DFX and Direct3D accelerator cards - Meticulously detailed drive-anywhere tracks The full Powerslide game will feature - 32 characters with neural network based artificial intelligence - 4 difficulty levels ranging from beginner to "insane" - Single Race, Championship and Custom Cup play modes - Multiplayer support via LAN, Internet and Modem - A whole bunch of fun cheat codes which are hidden around the tracks or awarded for racing success This demo version includes a single short track, four cars, 12 characters and 3 difficulty levels ranging from novice to expert. When you find them just type them in. ****************************************************************************** System Requirements ****************************************************************************** Minimum System requirements Operating System: Windows® 95, Windows® 98 or Windows® NT 5.0 Pentium® 166 MMX 16 MB RAM 40 MB hard disk space for installation, plus an additional 32 MB for swap space Direct Draw compatible graphics card Direct X 5 or 6 Recommended configuration Pentium® 233 MMX 32 MB RAM (48 really rocks) 3D Accelerator Cards: 3DFX®, I740, Riva, Riva TNT, Ragepro Turbo, G200, PowerVR2 or other Direct 3D cards. Direct Sound compatible sound card or 3D sound card. ****************************************************************************** Graphics Configuration ****************************************************************************** When run, Powerslide will automatically detect what 3D hardware you have available and configure itself for optimum performance on your machine. If you have a 3DFX® card (eg Voodoo, Voodoo II), then Powerslide will default to use Glide 2.x. Note that you MUST have the latest version of the Glide 2.x drivers (version 2.5 or newer) for your 3DFX card, or Powerslide may fail to work correctly. 3DFX drivers can be downloaded from http://www.3dfx.com/ If you do not have a 3DFX® card, but have a non-3DFX® 3D accelerator in your system with Direct3D5 drivers installed, Powerslide will default to use it. Note that versions of Windows 95 before OSR 2.1 do not properly support AGP, so you may not achieve optimum performance on an AGP Direct 3D card if you have an earlier version of Windows 95. If you have no 3D accelerator cards installed in your machine Powerslide will default to software rendering. Once the game has initialised and selected its default graphics driver (ie Glide, Direct3D or Software), you can change the graphics driver between what is available in your system from within the gameshell. Note however that you will not be able to run Direct3D if you have a 3DFX card in your computer, without first disabling the 3DFX card. ****************************************************************************** Input Device Configuration ****************************************************************************** You can use a joystick, wheel or joypad input device within Powerslide by selecting it from the Input Devices section of the Options page in the gameshell. However, before doing so, ensure that it is working correctly and is properly calibrated. To do this, go to My Computer, open the Control Panel, then run the Game Controllers programme. Also ensure that the device you wish to use is set to Controller ID 1 in the Advanced options under Game Controllers. If you have a force feedback device, you can turn force feedback on or off from within the gameshell once you have selected joystick, wheel or joypad input. ****************************************************************************** Keys Available In-Game ****************************************************************************** In addition to the controls which are configurable from the Input Devices section of the Options page in the gameshell, other keys have certain meanings if pressed when in a race. These are: pause - Pause and unpause the race. Available in single player races only. escape - In a multiplayer game, will quit you from the race. In a single player game, the current race is paused and you are returned to the game shell where some options can be changed. When you return to the race the game will be paused, and you will have to press the pause key to unpause it. ****************************************************************************** Multiplayer ****************************************************************************** This demonstration supports multiplayer games with up to 12 players, running under either IPX or TCP/IP. Note however that you may experience some problems under IPX unless you have installed DirectX version 6. DirectX 6 can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/directx/download.asp Note that when joining a TCP/IP multiplayer game, you do not have to enter the IP address of the game host if it is on your local network. Just press return to skip this step and you will be provided with a list of games on your local network to select from. ****************************************************************************** Powerslide + 1998 Emergent Software Pty.
