            {Network Operating System version 4.1

{The international award winner in peer-to-peer connectivity

From small business to major corporations, the easy-to-use,
full communication DOS-based LANtastic Network Operating
system makes sense. Featuring simple menus to set up and
manage the network in minutes, a peer-to-peer structure that
provides high-tech democracy and one small price tag for an
entire network's software, LANtastic networks get people's
            attention.

What makes people take notice is that the LANtastic network
works. Simply. Reliably. Quickly. Without hiring a fleet
of computer technicians, without abandoning the MS-DOS
foundation, without the enormous expenses of high-powered
hardware for dedicated servers, a LANtastic system makes
sense to business people who want their networks to improve,
            not confound, productivity.

Beyond that, the LANtastic network operating system features
tiny RAM usage, high performance, multi-level security,
built-in e-mail and voice capability, Windows compatibility,
audit trails and CD-ROM support that makes the LANtastic
network an international award-winner and the world's most
            popular peer-to-peer system.

Peer-to-peer is networking between equals. In contrast to a
centralized network's structure where one computer is
dedicated to processing network requests, a peer-to-peer
system allows a broader distribution of resources. Any
workstation can also be a server. Users can log into
multiple servers, so workgroups can have their own servers
and still be part of the larger structure. Resources like
printers and CD-ROM drives are accessible from any
convenient network station. The structure easily shifts
with a few simple management commands, so a temporary task
group can network together for a project.

"LANtastic is easy to use and administer, and inexpensive in
price and RAM. It also gives dynamite performance. In fact,
it can handle 100 users using typical DOS-based applications
on a single server. Its optional voice feature and_Windows
capabilities can add extra dimensions to the network, and
the security features are very well-implemented. LANtastic
            is a must-see if you're considering a peer-to-peer network."
--PC Magazine Editors' Choice citation, June 25, 1991

{The Tiny RAM network that avoids big expenses

Many networks devour large helpings of your PC's RAM. The
LANtastic system overhead is as small as 13K per workstation
and 40K per server, leaving room to run RAM-hungry
            applications.

Using the tiny LANtastic system saves big money. It
includes the robust features you need to get your network up
and running affordably at one low price. Many networks are
sold per node, which can be an expensive proposition.

Rather than buy more expensive printers and peripherals, you
share the ones you have. Because any station can be a
network server, you don't have to spend thousands on a
dedicated server with a high-speed processor, massive memory
            and a monster hard drive.

            {Enter LANtastic version 4.1

The latest version of the LANtastic operating system has
taken performance to a new level by fine-tuning the
network's DOS interface. A quick new NetBIOS and more
extensive use of your server's available memory for file
requests provide a quantum leap in speed.

Management tasks are simplified even further. User-friendly
menus can yield to more direct DOS commands --- or a batch
file--- to reconfigure the network. Hot keys also provide
more direct access to network commands.

Printing has gained new flexibility. Large files can print
before they finish spooling to the server's hard drive. A
new print queue screen monitors the list of files waiting to
print and estimated times to start and complete each print
            job.

LANtastic software caches applications and files to speed
work on the local machine and across the network. The
LANcache program allows faster processing because it caches
both reads and writes, reducing physical access to the disk.
The LANcache program detects and releases its memory to
Microsoft Windows 3.x. File directories and user's network
access rights can be stored in memory buffers, accelerating
            responses to access requests.

            {Multiple levels of security

"Security in a LANtastic network is tight as a drum if you
            choose." -- PC Magazine, June 25, 1991

You can prevent unauthorized entry into a system with the
LANtastic network's Username with Password feature, or limit
a user's access to certain hours, days of the week, etc.
You can individually assign users privileges to read, write,
modify, create, delete and rename files, make, delete and
look up directories, execute programs and change file
            attributes.

{E-mail with Chat, pop-up notification and voice

Electronic mail is a built-in LANtastic feature, which you
can use to send real-time text messages to chat between two
computers. Another menu lets you send and save messages to
read later. The LANPUP feature alerts you to incoming
messages. You can use the LANtastic sound capabilities to
send voice messages across the network with optional
Artisoft Sounding Board adapters. It's as easy as picking
up the telephone-style handset provided with each Sounding
Board adapter, bringing up a menu, and talking. Use the
Voice Chat feature to carry on a conversation, or save your
voice message in digital format for playback later, like
            regular e-mail.

            {UPS support safeguards your network.

If an Uninterruptible Power Supply connected to your server
signals that a shutdown is imminent, the LANtastic program
warns network users, gives them time to log off, then closes
network files so no one loses any work.

{Remote control or shut down any server

Network managers can use the NET RUN command to remotely
assign tasks to any available server on the network, so the
fastest machine can handle a time-consuming data sort. A
user with manager privliges can remotely shut down a server
or schedule its shutdown, at which point the system
automatically warns users of the impending shutdown.
Managers can also lock users out of a server when necessary,
            such as during file backups.

{ALONE_ sets up a dedicated server.

The ALONE program dedicates a server for unsurpassed
performance. You can run this stand-alone server program on
demand with a single command, and escape just as easily. By
side-stepping DOS, ALONE allows multitasking on a network
server, so it can perform more simultaneous user requests
            without reducing performance.

            {Despools to multiple printers simultaneously.

Other LANs despool to only one printer at a time. The
LANtastic system simultaneously despools to two or more
printers. LANtastic software also allows you to create
files to define draft, letter quality, different fonts,
banner pages, tab expansion, and other printer options
including setting margins and page lengths for printing
            ASCII files.

            {Audit trails track network activity.

The LANtastic system's audit feature monitors and records
all access to subdirectories and printers, letting you know
who used a PC, printer or other shared devices, when they
used them, and for how long. It can tell you if someone
tries to enter a directory to which they've been denied
access, providing detailed records for security or billing
            purposes.

            {Simple CD-ROM networking.

No LAN surpasses LANtastic software's ability to support CD-
ROM drives with Microsoft extension software. PC Magazine
awarded the LANtastic system an additional Editors' Choice
Award in February 1990 for the network's ability to network
CD-ROMs. While other LANs require you to load the CD-ROM's
extension software on every remote computer accessing the
drive, the LANtastic system only requires loading the
software on the computer to which the CD-ROM drive is
            attached.

{Full support of Windows 3.0 and above.

The LANtastic program supports Microsoft Windows' real,
standard and enhanced modes on both non-dedicated servers
and workstations. With The LANtastic for Windows program,
you can use Windows' pull-down menus, icons and on-line help
for both NET and NET_MGR functions.

"Artisoft continues to take a good thing and make it
            better." -- PC Magazine, June 25, 1991.

            {Help on-line . . . or a phone call away
If you can't find the answer to a problem in our user-
friendly manual and the LANtastic system's on-line help
            doesn't solve the problem, call us from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Mountain Standard Time. One of our technical support
representatives works with you until your problem is solved,
and we don't charge a cent for the service. Answers to
common questions are available in on-line help files through
Artisoft's Arti-Facts Bulletin Board Service and our fax-

The LANtastic system has won the PC Magazine Editors' Choice
Award for three years running, and based on user requests,
we continue improving it. That's how we remain the leader
            of the peer-to-peer pack.

{LANtastic for Windows utility gives you fingertip network
            control

If you use Microsoft Windows' simple, elegant framework of
pull-down menus, icons, and on-line help, LANtastic for
Windows software gives you fingertip access to network
            commands.

LANtastic for Windows software runs the system's NET and
NET_MGR utilities within Windows. Use the utility to
simultaneously monitor print queues, handle e-mail and
            multiple servers.

With the drag and drop feature, you quickly assign a
server's drives and printers to any drive in your PC. If
you want to use a CD-ROM drive from the server, simply drag
the CD-ROM icon across the screen, drop it in the drive of
            your choice and it's done.

The LANtastic for Windows utility is purchased separately,
and runs with the LANtastic system version 4.O and above and
Windows 3.0 and above to make a user-friendly system even
