FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

by Gary Phelps

LADSON, S.C. -- (RaceNet) Interested in motorsports and
always wanted to communicate with other race and rally
enthusiasts? Want to know the latest about motorsport events,
even if these events take place on the other side of the world?
Or do you want to tell the world about what's happening on your
local speedway?

The RaceNet network is set up just to accomplish that.
Whether you are an interested spectator of race and rally
sports, a director of a track, a Public Relations representative
for a track or for sponsoring company, you are welcome to join
RaceNet! All you need is a computer, a modem and a
communication program and locate the nearest link to our
network.

In no way RaceNet wants to compete with motorsports
magazines. On the contrary, it seeks the co-operation of
magazines, radio and TV stations and recognizes that each of
these has a special place and value to the world of motorsports.

The RaceNet (tm) Network is a publicly accessible tool for
communicating messages, opinions and ideas over great distances.
Each message released through the RaceNet network has the
potential to convey its information to thousands of people in
a relatively short period of time, and this number of
participants is growing by the day.

Because the RaceNet network utilizes inexpensive computer
hardware and software resources and standard telephone lines, it
is easily accessible to a large number of enthusiasts.

                         H I S T O R Y

RaceNet was founded by Gary Phelps (Ladson, SC USA), and Bob
Simpson (Summerville, SC USA) and started in 1987 as a small
motorsports orientated network serving the south-eastern region
of the United States -- smack dab in the middle of NASCAR
Country.

RaceNet gradually started experiencing growing pains as more
and more systems wanted the RaceNet conferences specific to every
major motorsport and sanctioning body. The gradual growth
suddenly took a gigantic leap recently with the expansion from
the south-eastern coverage to jump out of the South and go
coast-to-coast, and a little later even found its way to Canada and
Europe (1992) and New Zealand (1993).

                          E U R O P E

In Europe, RaceNet enjoys the hospitality of FidoNet (tm),
since this is the most spread and best accessible network open
for everyone interested. By using existing network links, the
RaceNet conferences can easily reach a BBS near you. To
reflect this special status, the group of RaceNet originating
conferences is referred to as "The European RaceNet" - founded
by Rudi Kusters.

                     C O N F E R E N C E S

A 'conference' or 'echomail area' is a collection of messages
with the same subject. Several types of motorsports are popular
enough to have earned a conference dedicated to discussing only
that type of motorsport. Conferences are listed in CNFN and Confs.txt

                      C O P Y R I G H T S

Because RaceNet is a public network, there's no such thing as
a copyrighted message. This means that any participant may use
the information from a message in one of the RaceNet conferences
in any way he sees fit. 'Common sense and decent behavior'
however require that you give credits to the original writer of
a message, or news release, to RaceNet network when quoting
information in a magazine, in a radio or TV broadcasting or for
any other use. That's not asking too much, is it? The
willingness of people releasing information in a RaceNet message
depends on this.

         A N D W H A T D O E S I T C O S T Y O U ?

Sorry to disappoint you there, but you don't have to pay
anything to join the RaceNet conferences! Sysops of bulletin
boards carrying these conferences often have to call long
distance or even international to supply you with mail. Please
consider a contribution in their phone costs once you frequently
read or write in the RaceNet conferences. Some BBSs have a
required fee before you can join international conferences.

                      H O W T O J O I N

Best way to join the RaceNet conferences is to contact your
local/regional RaceNet hub or node system (BBS). You probably
know a RaceNet or FidoTech system in your neighborhood -- if so,
start there by asking its sysop for the availability of RaceNet
conferences. For list of the major systems in RaceNet carrying
the various racing related conferences call (803) 871-9771,
851-7433 or 873-9600 and download RACENET1.ZIP. If that doesn't
work, contact one of the following:

                             CONFERENCES

A conference is a colleciton of messages with the same subject.
Several types of motorsports are popular enough to have earned a
conference dedicated to discusisng only that type of motorsport, e.g.
NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula and Drag Racing. An interesting feature of
RaceNet is its unlimited publication space. This means that there's
plenty of room for all the details you will never find in other
media.

                              COPYRIGHTS

Because RaceNet is a public network, there's no such thing as a
copyrighted message. This means that any participant may use the

require that you give credit to the original writer of a message and
to the RaceNet network when quoting information in a magazine, in a
radio or TV broadcast or for any other use. The willingness of
people releasing information in a RaceNet message depends on this.
As an example, you will find a lot of information that originate from
the Marlboro Sports Data System, NASCAR news releases, NHRA news
releases, etc.

AND WHAT DOES IT COST YOU?

You don't have to pay anything to join the RaceNet conferences!

Some BBS have a required small fee before you can join international
conferences.

                             HOW TO JOIN

Start up your communication program and call one of the RaceNet
systems. First time you call you have to answer a few questions so
we know who you are. In later calls you only have to supply yur name
and password to get access to the BBS. In the main menu you will
find an item that gives access to the RaceNet conferences. If you
need help, just leave a comment to the system operator (SYSOP). At
this BBS you may also find another BBS that is closer to you. Most
