Setting up Windows '95 to connect to Salt Air for PPP access involves many
steps. Once set up, you are only a couple of clicks away from browsing the
web or using other Internet applications.

In performing the setup, you'll need your installation disc (the CD-ROM
version is necessary in order to implement scripting support.) Otherwise,
you'll have to manually login each time.

NOTE: Make sure you follow all of the instructions in this document. Each
step is essential to the end goal -- logging onto Salt Air for PPP access.

Installing Dial-Up Networking
-----------------------------
The dial-up networking support in Windows 95 allows you to become a temporary
site on a network. In this case, you'll become a temporary site on the
Internet whenever you connect to our BBS for PPP access.

        1. Open the "Control Panel".
        2. Select "Add/Remove Programs".
        3. Choose the "Windows Setup" tab.
        4. Click on "Communications".
        5. Click on "Details".
        6. Make sure "Dial-Up Networking" is checked.
        7. Make sure "HyperTerminal" is checked.
        8. Make sure "Phone Dialer" is checked.
        9. Click "OK" for details.
        10. Click "OK" on "Add/Remove Programs".
        11. Insert the windows 95 installation disks when prompted.
        12. Restart Your Computer when asked to do so.

Installing TCP/IP Support
-------------------------
The TCP/IP network protocol is the "language of choice" for the Internet.
It is what allows you to communicate with the rest of the Internet. We
need to tell Microsoft Windows 95 that we want to carry the TCP/IP protocol
on our network by using the following steps:

        1. Open the "Control Panel".
        2. Double-click on "Network".
        3. Click "Add".
        4. Click "Protocol".
        5. Click "Add".
        6. Select "Microsoft" under "Manufacturer".
        7. Select "TCP/IP" under "Network Protocol".
        8. Click "OK".

Installing Client for Microsoft Networks
----------------------------------------
Part of the network under Windows 95 is a component called the Client.
In this section we install the Microsoft networking client on the
  machine.

        1. Open the "Control Panel".
        2. Double-click on "Network".
        3. Click on "Add".
        4. Click on "Clients".
        5. Click on "Microsoft".
        6. Click on "Client for Microsoft Networks".
        7. Click "OK".
        8. Restart your computer.

Setup The TCP/IP Protocol
-------------------------
We need to configure the TCP/IP protocol so it knows information about
the TCP/IP network we are participating in. For example, it is here
that we tell Windows 95 where to get our node address when we get
  connected, etc.

        1. Open the "Control Panel".
        2. Double-click on "Network".
        3. Click on "TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter" so it is highlighted.
        4. Click on "Properties".
        5. Click on the "IP Address" tab.
        6. Check the "Obtain an IP address automatically" box.
        7. Click on the "DNS Configuration" tab.
        8. Click "Enable DNS".
        9. Enter "ppp" in the host field.
        10. Enter pcboard.com" in the domain field.
        11. Enter "206.173.168.40" in the "DNS Server Search Order" box.
        12. Click "Add".
        13. Enter "199.3.12.2" in the "DNS Server Search Order" box.
        14. Click "Add".
        15. Enter "pcboard.com." in the "Domain Suffix Search Order" box.
        16. Click "Add".
        17. Enter "." in the "Domain Suffix Search Order" box.
        18. Click "Add".
        19. Click on the "Gateway" tab.
        20. Enter "206.173.168.1" in the "New Gateway" box.
        21. Click "Add".
        22. Click the "WINS Configuration" tab.
        23. Click "Disable WINS Resolution".
        24. Click the "Bindings" tab.
        25. Check the "Client for Microsoft Networks" box.
        26. Click "OK" for the TCP/IP window.
        27. Set "Primary Network Logon" to "Client for Microsoft Networks".
        19. Click "OK" for the network window.
        20. Restart your computer.

Creating The Connection Icon
----------------------------

Logging Into The System
-----------------------
Now comes the fun part. We've done all of the setup and now we're ready
to actually test the connection to make sure it works. There are two ways
you can connect to the system: 1) Manually, or 2) by executing a script.
To use a script requires some additional setup. For now, we'll outline
the manual connection and then if you decide you want to automate the
process, look at using a script.

        1. Open "My Computer".
        2. Open "Dial-Up Networking".
        3. Double-Click on the "Salt Air" icon.
        4. Press "Connect".
        5. When the menu appears, select the "PPP" language and press ENTER.
        6. Enter your username when the "First Name?" prompt appears.
        7. Enter your password when the "Password?" prompt appears.
        8. When the "Loading PPP..." message appears, press 'F7'.
        9. Minimize the window and you are connected.

Connecting via script means you will not have to select the language,
type in your user name, or password. In essence, everything is automated
for you. As mentioned in the prior section, using a script requires
additional setup. Remember, this requires the CD version of Windows 95.

        1. Open the "Control Panel".
        2. Click "Add/Remove Programs".
        3. Click "Windows Setup".
        4. Click "Have Disk".
        5. Enter "D:\admin\apptools\dscript" in the box. (assuming D: is your
           CD-ROM drive)
        6. Click "OK".
        7. Check "SLIP and Scripting for Dial-Up Networking".
        8. Click "Install".
        9. Click "OK".
        10. Open "My Computer".
        11. Double click on "Dial up Networking".
        12. Right click on the "Salt Air" icon.
        13. Select "Properties".
        14. Click "Configure".
        15. Click "General".
        16. Click "Connection".
        17. Click "Options".
        18. Make sure that "Disconnect call if idle for __ minutes" is checked.
        19. Make sure that "Wait for dial tone before dialing" is checked.
        20. Make sure that "Cancel if not connected in __ minutes" is checked.

Now that scripting support is enabled, we're ready to configure the system
to use the script. We provided a script named W95PPP.SCP within this
archive that is the script you will use. It's best to put this file in
a directory such as \Program Files\Accessories--use File Manager to move
  the file if necessary.

        1. Start the Dial-Up Scripting Tool.
The tool is in the start menu under "Accessories".
        2. Highlight the "Salt Air" line.
        3. Click on "Browse".
        4. Go to c:\Program Files\Accessories.
        5. Select "w95ppp.scp".
        6. Make sure the "Step through script" box is not checked.
        7. Make sure the "Start terminal screen minimized" box is checked.
        8. Click on the "Apply" button.
        9. Click on the "Close" button.
        10. Double-click "My Computer".
        11. Double-click "Dial-Up Networking".
        12. Click on the "Salt Air" icon.
        13. Select the "File" menu.
        14. Select "Properties".
        15. Click "Configure".
        16. Click the "Options" tab.
        17. Uncheck "Bring up terminal window before dialing".
        18. Uncheck "Bring up terminal window after dialing".
        19. Click "OK".
        20. Click "OK".

Making the connection via the script is easy to do. Follow these 7 steps.

        1. Double-click on "My Computer".
        2. Double-click on "Dial-Up Networking".
        3. Double-click on "Salt Air".
        4. Enter your username in the "Username" box.
        5. Enter your password in the "Password" box.
(If you want the system to remember this information, click
            "Remember Password")
        6. Click "Connect".
        7. After connection, minimize the "Connected to Salt Air" box.
