Some of the features

Congratulations on choosing to buy or evaluate award winning ShopWizard 2D/3D Pro or ShopWizard Light.

Creating your on-line shop will be a breeze with ShopWizards. ShopWizard 2D/3D Pro for $299 has been awarded 4 stars by ZDNet for its ease of use and feature richness. ShopWizard Light for $99 will allow you to quickly create your one department on-line shop in no time at all.

In fact we guarantee you will not find easier to use editors to create professional Internet shops ranging from small text only shops to complete multimedia extravaganzas with links to larger images, sound and video files and much, much more.*

See further down for types of shops to see what kind of shops you can create with point and click ease.

Just point and click to add departments, products and multimedia links, to add options and choices to your products, to customize your shop and even to automatically create a 3D virtual reality shopping environment, the future of shopping on the Internet.

You can choose payment options or define your own, have postage and tax calculated automatically for your customers, receive your order by email, put products on special, integrate catalog numbers, charge extra for options and choices, customize the look of your shop, allow customers to switch between 2D and 3D shopping, work with international currencies and weight units, use SSL for secure ordering, use PGP for encryption and automatically create all the CGI scripts required to run the shop on your UNIX, NT or Windows 95 server.**

You can even preview your complete shop on your local computer before uploading it with ShopWizards' sophisticated FTP program. It can continue an interrupted upload and even remembers what you have already uploaded - allowing you to only upload changes you made to an existing shop - such as putting a product on special.

This sophisticated upload tool makes ShopWizards the ideal program not only for creating but also for maintaining your on-line shop.

* Some of the features described in this section are only available in ShopWizard 2D/3D Pro. For a comparison check out http://www.3d3.com/swpro.htm. If you have the Evaluation Version, you can evaluate the light version by adding no departments and disabling Advanced Mode.

** Some minor modifications are required to run the shops on NT and Windows 95 servers.

System Requirements

Windows 95 or Windows NT
8 MB Ram
10 MB Hard Disk Space
WebBrowser installed

To run your shop on line your server must have a CGI BIN or CGI execution rights. If you do not have these you will find service providers at 3Dcubed who can help at http://www.3d3.com/hosting.htm

To install your shop on your server you need telnet access or your service provider must configure your cgi shopping script for you. This is a once only occurrence and usually takes only a few minutes with the supplied configure program (see below).

[Optional] VRMLBrowser SGI Cosmo Player 1.0 recommended.

Shop Wizards are subject to the terms detailed in the license agreement accompanying them.

Installation Instructions

If you have downloaded the exe file for installation, just double click on the file to launch the automatic install and follow instructions.

If you have downloaded the zip file, you will have to manually unzip the file to install it. We recommend Winzip for installation. Open the file with Winzip, click on the Install button and follow instructions.

Otherwise double-click on the setup.exe file to start the installation.

Uploading your Shop to the Internet

After creating your store with ShopWizard, you can upload it with the sophisticated FTP program which forms part of the package. This allows you to continue an interrupted upload at a later stage and even to upload only changes made to an existing shop - a great feature for shop maintenance. click the
'Create Internet Shop Files'

button on the toolbar. If you have not filled in your details such as address, you will be asked to do so. Say yes or no, depending on your choice.

A new window will appear, Click

'Options'

Simply provide your 'Host Name', 'User ID', 'Password' and 'Destination Directory'. Click OK.

Click "Create Internet Files"

When finished, click

'Upload'

and the files will be automatically uploaded. If your browser does not automatically launch your modem make sure you are connected before clicking on the Upload button.

After the upload and before you run your shop for the first time, you must install the CGI script on your server. This only needs to be done once. All the files required have already been included in the upload.

All you have to do is telnet to your account, go to the directory to which you have uploaded your shop and type "perl configure".

If you do not have telnet access, ask your service provider to help you install the program. This is a once only requirement - from then on you should not have to install your shop again. Many virtual servers now have CGI BINS. Not all service providers offer telnet, but most should be willing to install your cgi script for you.

The Telnet program is provided with Windows 95. Simply click on the Telnet icon in your ShopWizard Start-up folder (Start button, Program files, ShopWizard).

Select 'Remote System ...' from the 'Connect' menu, a window will appear type in the 'Host Name' of your server and click 'Connect'. You will be asked for your User ID and Password to login to your account enter these and then change to the 'Destination Directory' you entered in Shop Wizard 3D. (to do this use the 'cd' command eg, 'cd MyShop'. Use 'ls' to list directories.)

Type the following :

perl configure

You may be asked to choose the location of sendmail, ask your Internet Service Provider for help if you are unsure about your choice.

You will be asked if you wish to use PGP. PGP is an encryption that will make the email orders sent to you more secure. If you have not setup PGP or are unsure about it's installation on your server ask your Internet Service Provider for help. However this is an optional feature and not required to run your shop.

You will be asked if the search path to your shop files is correct. In most cases this will be correct, so just answer Y for yes. However if your search funtion does not work, simply run configure again and change the path for the search.

[If you want to change the search path, simply type "n" and reenter the search path.
On some virtual servers the path found by the configure program and the path available to you may be different. Configure finds the complete path to the server root - but this may not be the path to the root of your virtual server. So the path could be longer than required. If search doesn't work, simply run configure again and start the path from the last /usr which appears in the path found. This should work. Otherwise contact your service provider to find out where your path actually starts]

You will be asked to enter the base URL for your shop eg,

http://www.company.com/MyShop/

[Do not type ...MyShop - instead type the name of the complete URL which leads directly to your shop entrance]

Type logout and exit windows telnet.

That's it, you can now type the URL of your shop in your web browser to start shopping eg,

http://www.company.com/MyShop/web_store.cgi

Here is an example of what running "perl configure" looks like:

3d3: {9} % perl configure
Configuring...
I found more than one instance of sendmail:
1. /bin/sendmail
2. /usr/sbin/sendmail
Which one should I use? 1
Sendmail is set to /bin/sendmail
Do you want to use PGP? [Yn] n
We won't use PGP.
Set search path to /usr/htdocs/test/Html/Products? [Yn] Y

What is the base URL for your shop (eg http://www.company.com/MyShop/):

When you perl configure your shop on the Internet more than once, the configure program will complain at the end that a file can not be created because it already exists. This is normal and no cause for alarm. You can run configure as many times as you like, but once should normally be enough. You do not have to run configure again when you update your shop.
Once you have configured your store, telnet access is no longer required - from now on your shop will function and to update it all you have to do is upload new shop files via ShopWizard's ftp program.

Additional Information

  • Preview:
If you use ASCII characters other than the letters a-z and numbers in names of departments and products Preview may not work. To overcome this problem many of these characters are automatically removed by the program. We suggest you do not use other characters than the letters a-z and numbers in titles. This includes the names of departments, products, of options and choices as well as the names of shipping methods and delivery and tax areas.

  • Shipping
Never use a Hyphen or other not recommended ASCII character in the name of a shipping or payment method. This interferes with the execution of online programs required to properly run your shop.

  • Product Descriptions
Product descriptions as well as Terms and conditions and simular pages are currently limited to 1500 characters including spaces.

  • Hard Disk Space
When you run out of hard disk space you will normally get a warning message "Out of Memory". This means you do not have enough space to save your shop. Before saving your shop you must make space on your hard disk.

ShopWizard does not know in advance how many products you want to add to your shop and therefore can't warn you in advance. You must make sure before building a shop that you have enough hard disk space available, as you may not always be able to create extra space on your hard disk.

When building a shop, ShopWizard creates a temporary file in the swap folder of your ShopWizard folder. Make sure you have about 2MB of free hard disk space on the hard disk ShopWizard is installed on for every 100 products or departments you want to add. This swap file is replaced each time you create a new shop or work on another shop. The actual size of the file you save when you store your shop is much smaller.

  • Search engine
On some virtual servers the path found by the configure program and the path available to you may be different. Configure finds the complete path to the server root - but this may not be the path to the root of your virtual server. So the path could be longer than required. If search doesn't work, simply run configure again and start the path from the last /usr which appears in the path found. This should work. Otherwise contact your service provider to find out where your path actually starts.

  • Perl configure
When you perl configure your shop on the Internet more than once, the configure program will complain at the end that a file can not be created because it already exists. This is normal and no cause for alarm. You can run configure as many times as you like, but once should normally be enough. You do not have to run configure again when you update your shop.
