ABOUT THE FOOD AND NUTRITION INFORMATION CENTER'S 
SOFTWARE AND MULTIMEDIA PROGRAMS DATABASE

The Food and Nutrition Information Center (FNIC) at the National 
Agricultural Library maintains a database of information on over 200 
software and multimedia programs.  Types of programs in the database 
include nutrient analysis, clinical nutrition, food service management, 
recipe management, food industry, drug-nutrient interactions, nutrition 
education, and menu planning.

The programs can be obtained from the companies listed.  Inclusion of a 
program in this list does not indicate endorsement  by the U.S. Department 
of Agriculture (USDA), nor does the USDA ensure the accuracy of all 
information in the computer packages.

The complete contents of the database, in ASCII (DOS) format, are available
on NAL's electronic bulletin board, and FNIC's Internet gopher. To access 
ALF, you need a modem and communications software.  Dial 301-504-6510, 
301-504-5111, 301-504-5496, or 301-504-5497.  The communications settings 
are:  data bits - 8, stop bit - 1, parity - none, duplex - full.  ALF is 
also accessible through Fedworld on Internet by using telnet and the 
address:  fedworld.gov.

To reach FNIC's gopher, point your gopher to: gopher.nalusda.gov.  Select 
Information Centers, then Food and Nutrition Information Center.

You also can request a disk copy of the database contents in ASCII (DOS)
