Speaking of "PostLink"...this is another pet peeve of mine. This software has
undergone more changes than a new born baby and *still* doesn't work
properly! Not only are sysops required to use this software they have to pay
for it. With all the bugs and releases of this software the sysop's BBS is
being used as a eta site, whether RIME wants to admit it or not.

SCYou will notice by the header of the message that it is the Amateur
SCRadio Newsline posting from last week. I posted it in it's full length,
SCabout 19Kb. I have already seen evidence that at least 1 BBS has choked
SCon the message, spiting back the partial message into the net, and
SCanother one tried to split it up. Because of that, there is more
SCcreedence that this message is just another manesfistation of that
 SCtechnical problem.

A 19kb message? Yes, some of the softwares we use on this network
would choke on that one and retransmit pieces of it. Perhaps you
could split that up a bit? Or ask if it could be sent around as a
 file?

I don't think anyone was imitating anyone Steve, I think this is a
 software, what we call burp.

How many lines is a 19kb message?

Now, I just looked at a 20k ASCII file I have on my hard drive and it has 365
lines in it. If broken down into 100 line messages it would take up 4
messages. If "ChokeLink" can't properly process a 4 part message it's not
worth the $50 "(C)RIME" charges. Even Bonnie admits the network software
chokes, but if you ask her if it's caused by "ChokeLink" you will receive the
standard answer of "I don't know about the technical aspects of the software
...". Or you will be told it's the software the receiving BBS is using. Since
RIME has no rules governing what types of software can be used to process
mail, this is their "out" when their back is against the wall. It's a no-win
situation, or should I say a win-win situation if you're a RIME official.

While I'm at it, what happens to that $50 a sysop pays for "ChokeLink"
anyway? Sources tell me the money goes to Kip Compton, the developer of
"ChokeLink", but I have my doubts. Let's do a little math...

Number of RIME nodes (per 11/12/93 node list) - 1520
         "ChokeLink" at $50 a pop - x 50
                                                         ----
         Income $76000

Hmmmmmmm.....I wonder if Kip reported this on his tax return? A simple FOIA
 request should tell.

While we're on the subject of money let's see how much the annual RIME dues
 come out to be.

Number of RIME nodes (per 11/12/93 node list) - 1520
         Annual Dues at $25 a pop - x 25
                                                         ----
         Income $38000

Hmmmmmmm.....I guess another FOIA request for Bonnie & Co. is in order. I
don't know about you guys but I've never seen an itemized break-down of where
the dues monies goes to, have you? I'm told it goes towards the upkeep of the
network, but how much upkeep does a computer need! Maybe it's time to ask
 some embarrassing questions on (C)RIME.
