AB Transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has been reported in
homes in which health care has been provided and between children
residing in the same household (1-6). CDC has received reports of two
cases of HIV infection that apparently occurred following mucocutaneous
exposures to blood or other body substances in persons who received care
from or provided care to HIV-infected family members residing in the
same household. This report summarizes the findings of the epidemiologic
and laboratory investigations, which underscore the need to educate
persons who care for or are in contact with HIV-infected persons in
household settings where such exposures may occur.
