Learning HiJaak Graphics Suite
This chapter contains three tutorials designed to introduce you to HiJaak
Graphics Suite and help you learn how to use the Suite of products in your work. To complete the
first tutorial, you must install HiJaak Browser, HiJaak PRO and HiJaak Smuggler, or
set them up to run from the network or CD-ROM. To complete the second tutorial, you
must install or set up HiJaak Draw. To complete the third tutorial, you must install HiJaak Browser,
HiJaak PRO, HiJaak Smuggler, HiJaak Draw and HiJaak Paint, or set them up to run
from the network or CD-ROM. You must install the tutorial files to your hard drive. If
you have not installed these components, run HiJaak Setup and add them before continuing. For
more information on the HiJaak Setup program, see Configuring HiJaak Graphics Suite in
Chapter 2: Installation.
The following list describes what you will create and what you will learn in each
tutorial.
TUTORIAL I-Creating a Training Manual:
In this tutorial you will create the first page of a training manual. You will use HiJaak PRO to set Windows Capture options and capture part of a Windows screen. You will use HiJaak Browser to
view a file, search for a file, organize the files used in the training manual, and open Windows Write.
Finally, you will use HiJaak Smuggler to import a file into Windows Write.
TUTORIAL II-Creating a Business Card:
In this tutorial you will create a business card. You will use HiJaak Draw to open a file, import a graphic,
perform text layout, and save and print the business card.
TUTORIAL III-Creating a Birth Announcement:
In this tutorial you will create the cover of a birth announcement. You will use HiJaak Browser to
search for a file and open both HiJaak Paint and HiJaak Draw. You will use HiJaak Paint to edit an
image by cropping and adjusting brightness and gamma; you will then save the edited image. Finally,
you will use HiJaak Draw to layout to announcement: you will add text, color and a border.
Note:
Although HiJaak Graphics Suite is compatible with Windows 95, differences in the
operating systems make the following tutorials appropriate for use with Windows 3.1 only.

Tutorial I--Creating a Training Manual
In this tutorial, you will create the first page of a training manual for a class that
you will be teaching. The class is on using Windows 3.1 and will be taught to a group of secretaries
who have just registered with the personnel service where you are employed. It is your job to train
them on the PC. The focus of the class will be Program Manager, and the training manual will cover
Program Manager's menus in detail. In this tutorial, you will take a screen capture of the Program
Manager File menu, create a HiJaak Browser Collection, search for the file that contains the text of
the manual, and lay out the first page of the manual.
What You'll Learn
In this tutorial, you will learn how Use HiJaak PRO, HiJaak
Browser and HiJaak Smuggler. You will use HiJaak PRO to set Windows capture
options and capture a portion of a Windows screen to a file and to a Collection. You will use HiJaak
Browser to view the captured image, search for a file, copy a thumbnail from a Search to a
Collection, and start up Windows Write. You will use HiJaak Smuggler to import the screen capture
image into Windows Write.
When you complete this tutorial, you will be able to accomplish the following:
Run HiJaak PRO
Set Windows Capture options in HiJaak PRO
Capture a pop-up menu to a file and a HiJaak Browser Collection using
HiJaak PRO
View the captured image using HiJaak Browser
Search for a Windows Write file based on file type and location using HiJaak
Browser
Copy a thumbnail from a Search to a Collection using HiJaak Browser
Launch Windows Write from HiJaak Browser
Import an image into Windows Write using HiJaak Smuggler
Capturing the File Menu
In this section, you will run HiJaak PRO and set Windows Capture
options. You will then capture the Program Manager File menu to a file and to a new HiJaak
Browser Collection. HiJaak Browser Collections allow you to organize files in the way that makes the
most sense to you: by format, project or content. You will use the Collection you create in this
tutorial to organize the files used to create the training manual.
Running HiJaak PRO
You run HiJaak PRO the same way you run other Windows
applications.
Double-click on the HiJaak PRO program icon which is located in the
HiJaak Graphics Suite program group.
You will see the HiJaak PRO Main Screen: see Figure 4-1.

Setting Windows Capture Options
You have decided that the class will be most effective if you begin by explaining
each of Program Manager's menus and the options in each menu. This approach to the class will
allow the students to become familiar with Program Manager's capabilities as they learn how to
work in the Windows environment. In this tutorial, you will capture the Program Manager File
menu. Before you capture the menu, there are some Windows Capture options you should set. These
options will help produce the best results when you capture a screen.
1
From the HiJaak PRO Main menu, click once on the Capture
menu to pull it down. Click on Windows Capture Options.
You will see the Windows Capture Options dialog box.
2
In the Method area of the dialog box, click once on the down arrow to pull
down the Method list. Click on Window/Object.
The Method area of the dialog box allows you to select what elements of the
Windows screen you want to capture. You can capture the entire screen, a window, object, or any
rectangular area that you define. Selecting Window/Object will allow you to capture just the File
menu without the rest of the screen.
3
In the Capture To area of the dialog box, make sure HiJaak Window is
selected. When it is selected an X appears in the check box. If there is no X, click on the check box to
select it.
When you take a screen capture, you have to tell HiJaak PRO where
you want the image placed after it is captured; the Capture To area of the screen allows you to select
this destination. This selection tells HiJaak PRO to place a copy of the captured image
its Main window. Placing a copy the image in the Main window will allow you to view the image and
decide if you are satisfied with it. If you are not, you can take the capture again.
4
In the Capture To area of the dialog box, select the File check box.
By selecting the File check box, you are telling HiJaak PRO to
capture the screen to a file. When you select File as the destination, you also need to tell HiJaak
PRO a path in which to write the file.
5
Click on the Browse button beside the Name field. You will see the Capture to
File dialog box. Pull down the Drives drop-down list and click on C:. In the Directories area, double-
click on C:\ to get to the root of the C drive, then double-click on the INSET directory.
Double-click on the TUTORIAL subdirectory. Double-click in the File Name field and
type the following:
FILEMENU.BMP
Click on OK.
The captured image will be saved as FILEMENU.BMP in the
C:\INSET\TUTORIAL subdirectory.
6
When you capture an image to file, you have the option of saving a thumbnail of
the captured image in a HiJaak Browser Collection. You can save the capture in an existing
Collection or create a new Collection. To save the capture in a new Collection, click on the Collection
check box in the Capture To area. In the Name field type the following:
Training Manual
When you perform the capture, a Collection named Training Manual will be
created and a thumbnail of the captured screen will be placed in the Collection. A Collection is a
HiJaak Browser window that contains thumbnails referencing files on a network, hard drive or
removable media. The Training Manual Collection will be useful because it will allow you to organize
all of the files needed for the manual in one place.

7
Make sure the Prompt for Options check box is deselected. If it is selected, click
on it once to deselect it.
Selecting Prompt for Options causes the Windows Capture Options dialog box to
reappear when you signal to HiJaak PRO that you are ready to capture a screen. It is useful if you
need to change some of your options or if you are capturing to a file and want to change the file name
of the captured image. Since you are setting Windows Capture Options, and you have already named
the file, there is no reason to see this dialog box again before capturing the screen. Note that if you
were actually going to capture each of Program Manager's menus, you might want to see this dialog
box before each capture so you could change the name of the next capture; that is
OPTIONS.BMP, WINDOW.BMP and HELPMENU.BMP.
8
Note the key combination in the Hotkeys area. The default hotkeys are
CTRL+SHIFT+C.
You will use these keys to start the screen capture.
9
Click on OK.
You have finished setting up HiJaak PRO to capture the screen, so you're ready to
start the capture.

Capturing a Screen
HiJaak PRO is now set up to capture the File menu. HiJaak PRO offers three
ways to perform a capture. In this lesson you will learn the Hotkey method.
1
Press the Alt+Tab keys. As you press these keys you will see a box containing the
name and icon of another active Windows application. Press the Alt+Tab keys until the box contains
the Program Manager icon and then release the keys to switch to Program Manager.

2
Click once on the Program Manager File menu to pull it down.
Since the training session will focus on Windows Program Manager, the manual
will contain a capture of each of menu and a description of its functions.
3
To begin the capture, press the CTRL+SHIFT+C keys at the same
time.
You will hear a beep indicating that HiJaak PRO has started the
screen capture. The cursor changes to a pointing hand.
4
Move the cursor over the File menu.
A dotted line surrounds File menu indicating that it is selected.
5
To capture the menu, click the mouse button. You will hear another beep
indicating that the File menu has been captured.
HiJaak PRO displays a copy of the captured file:
C:\INSET\TUTORIAL\FILEMENU.BMP.
If you are not satisfied with the screen capture, repeat the Setting Windows
Capture Options procedure and the Capturing a Screen procedure.

Exiting HiJaak PRO
You have finished using HiJaak PRO for this tutorial, so you can
close the program.
Click on the HiJaak PRO File menu once to pull it down. Click on Exit.
HiJaak PRO closes.
Working with Collections
In this section, you will first run HiJaak Browser and then you will view the
Training Manual Collection that was created when you captured the Program Manager File menu.
Finally, you will view the captured image.
Running HiJaak Browser
You run HiJaak Browser the same way you run other Windows applications.
Double-click on the HiJaak Browser program icon, located in the HiJaak Graphics
Suite program group.
You will the HiJaak Browser Main screen: see Figure 4-2.

The HiJaak Browser Main screen opens with the Index Window open. The
Index is a road map to all files organized with HiJaak Browser. Although the Index does not contain
the files themselves, it does contain information about the files such as file name, location, size, date,
class, format, notes, keywords and attributes. The Index Window represents the contents of the
Index.
If this is the first time you are running HiJaak Browser, the Index window you
are looking at contains information about the directory where you installed the HiJaak Browser
Index. You may recall from the install procedure that the default directory for the Browser Index is
C:\INSET. The right side of the Index window is called the thumbnail window. It
contains thumbnails of the files in the current directory. The left side of the Index window contains a
tree of the Index. It shows open folders to indicate the current directory.
When you are ready to learn more about adding files and directories to the
Index, search on the keyword Index in the HiJaak Browser Help file.
Opening a Collection
Recall that when you set Windows Capture options, you set up HiJaak
PRO to create a Training Manual Collection and place a thumbnail of the captured
image into that Collection. HiJaak Browser Collections allow you organize files by format, project or
content. In this tutorial, you will organize all of the files needed for the training manual in the
Training Manual Collection. Now that you have created the Collection, you can use HiJaak Browser
to view it.
1
The Collections branch is located at the bottom of the Index Tree. If the
branch is not expanded, double-click on the Collections branch.
The Index Tree is located on the left side of the Main window. This tree shows
relationships among different storage areas in the Index. These relationships are shown by the
relative position of each branch on the Tree. For example, if one branch is shown indented in relation
to the one above it, then the indented branch is nested within the one above it.
When you double-click on the branch, you will see it expand. You will see a branch
with a book and the title Training Manual beneath it. Also notice that the thumbnail window
changes: A thumbnail of a book with the caption "training manual..." appears in the thumbnail
window. This thumbnail is called a Collection thumbnail.
2
In the thumbnail window, double-click on the Training Manual Collection
thumbnail.
The Collection window opens. You will see the thumbnail of the screen capture
you took of the Program Manager File menu.

Finding Files
HiJaak Browser allows you to search for files based on file name, location
keywords, size, date and attributes. In this section of the tutorial, you will search for a file based on
two of these criteria. After the file is found, you will copy its thumbnail to Training Manual
Collection.
Searching by Type and Location
Now that you have a capture that you are pleased with, you can use HiJaak
Browser to search for the file that contains that text of the training manual. HiJaak Browser allows
you to search for files on various criteria. Two of the these criteria are file type and location. File
type refers to the format of a file; that is, the manner in which a file was created. HiJaak recognizes
file type based on the extension of a file. For example, if the file extension is BMP,
HiJaak recognizes that file as a Windows Bitmap. File location refers to where the file is stored. For
example, if a file is saved on the C:\ drive in the INSET directory, its
location is C:\INSET.
1
Click on the Search button in the button bar.
You will see the Search dialog box.
2
Click in the Location field and type the following: C:\.
By default, HiJaak Browser searches the Index. If the file is not in the Index it will
not be found; therefore, you need to specify the location to search. Because you specified the
C:\ drive as the location to search, HiJaak Browser will search the C:\
drive all files that meet the search criteria.
3
In the Attributes area, click on the arrow to the right of the Attribute drop-
down list to pull down the list and view its contents. To search on the file type, click on Type.
Type is one of the attributes on which you can search in HiJaak Browser. A file
type is the format in which the file is created; for example, Windows Write create files whose file type
is WRI. HiJaak Browser recognizes file type by file extension.
4
In the Attributes area, click on the arrow to the right of the Relationship drop-
down list and click on = (equals).

5
In the Attributes area, click in the Value field and type WRI.
The 3 fields in the Attributes area can now be read as an equation:
Type=WRI
6
Click on OK.
You will see a Processing status box. When this disappears, the contents of the
thumbnail window are replaced with the search results.
The Search window contains thumbnails of files that meet the requirements you
specified in the Search dialog box.
When using HiJaak Browser's Search feature, you may often find more files than
you are looking for. If HiJaak Browser finds too many files, you can narrow the search by selecting
Modify from the Search menu and adding more search criteria. In this case, modifying the search is
not necessary; the search was narrow enough to recognize the file you need:
TRAINMAN.WRI.
Now that you have found the file you were searching for, you can copy it into your
Training Manual Collection.

Copying a Thumbnail from a Search into a Collection
HiJaak Browser allows you to copy a thumbnail from a Search to a Collection.
In this procedure, you'll copy the TRAINMAN.WRI thumbnail into the Training
Manual Collection. To perform this procedure, the Training Manual Collection branch of the Index
tree must be visible in the Main window. If it is not, use the scroll bar to the right of the Index tree to
scroll through the tree until you can see the Collections branch. Double-click on the Collections
branch to expand the tree and display the Training Manual branch. Notice that the contents of the
thumbnail window change to represent the Collections branch on the tree. To switch the thumbnail
window back to the Search, click on the Temporary Search branch in the Index tree.
1
Hold down the CTRL key and click and hold down the mouse
button on the thumbnail with the caption TRAINMAN.WRI. Drag the cursor to the
Training Manual branch in the Index tree. When the cursor is over the Training Manual branch,
release the mouse button.
You will see a status bar and a message saying "Adding to Document." When this
message disappears, the thumbnail has been copied into the Training Manual Collection.
2
In the Index tree, double-click on the branch labeled Training Manual.
The Training Manual Collection opens, and the contents of the thumbnail window
are replaced with the contents of the Training Manual Collection. Notice that the Collection contains
a new thumbnail representing the TRAINMAN.WRI file you just found and copied. In
the next section, you will use this file, which contains the text of the training manual, to open
Windows Write.

Creating the Training Manual
In this section of the tutorial, you will use the TRAINMAN.WRI
thumbnail to open Windows Write. You will then run HiJaak Smuggler and import the
FILEMENU.BMP screen capture you took earlier. Finally, you will save and print the
first page of the training manual.
Running Windows Write and Opening a File
HiJaak Browser allows you to launch an application by double-clicking on a
thumbnail representing a file in a format associated with the application. Recall that the file
containing the text of the training manual is TRAINMAN.WRI. WRI is
associated with Windows Write through Windows registration database. When you double-click on
the TRAINMAN.WRI thumbnail, HiJaak Browser will launch Windows Write and
open the file. You can then use Windows Write complete the training manual.
In the Training Manual collection thumbnail window, double-click on the thumbnail
with the caption TRAINMAN.WRI.
The cursor changes to an hourglass, then Windows Write opens with the first page
of the training manual displaying in its Main window: see Figure 4-3.

Running HiJaak Smuggler
HiJaak Smuggler is HiJaak Graphics Suite's graphics import utility. In the next
procedure, you will use HiJaak Smuggler to import the FILEMENU.BMP capture into
Windows Write. You can run HiJaak Smuggler directly from HiJaak Browser:
Press the Alt+Tab keys. As you press these keys you will see a box containing the
name and icon of another active Windows application. Press the Alt+Tab keys until the box contains
the HiJaak Browser icon and then release the keys to switch to HiJaak Browser.
The HiJaak Browser Application bar is located along the far right side of the Main screen. It
contains program icons that you can use to open applications. To open HiJaak Smuggler, click on the
Smuggler icon in the Application bar.
You will see the HiJaak Smuggler icon at the bottom of your screen. HiJaak
Smuggler always runs as an icon. When it is running it places its icon in the title bar of all open
applications that support pasting graphics from the Windows Clipboard.
Importing an Image
Combining text and graphics is a document is an effective way of presenting
information. Since the class you will be teaching will cover each of Program Manager's menus, using
images of the menus in the manual will re-enforce what you are teaching. In this procedure, you will
use HiJaak Smuggler to import the screen capture of the Program Manager File menu into Windows
Write.
1
Press the Alt+Tab keys. As you press these keys you will see a box containing
the name and icon of another active Windows application. Press the Alt+Tab keys until the box
contains the Windows Write icon and then release the keys to switch to Windows Write. Then, click
in the Windows Write screen to activate it.
Look at the Windows Write title bar. In the left side of the title bar you will see the
HiJaak Smuggler icon. You will use this icon to import an image into the Training Manual.
2
Position the cursor at the beginning of the line between the lines "File Menu"
and "Options Menu." Press the Enter key twice.
Adding this space makes room for the image of the File menu. When you import
the image of the Program Manager File menu, the top of the image will appear at the cursor.
3
Click on the Smuggler icon located in the Windows Write title bar.
You will see a status bar message box, "Loading Thumbnail Database," and then
you will see the Smuggler dialog box.
The Smuggler dialog box is comprised of two parts: the Index Tree representing
Directories, Collections and Searches on the left and the thumbnail window representing files on the
right. These are the same components that comprise the HiJaak Browser Main screen.
4
In the Index Tree area of the Smuggler dialog box, double-click on the
Collections folder.
The Collections area of the tree expands, showing all Collections that are part of
the HiJaak Browser Index. In the Tree beneath the Collections branch, you will see the Training
Manual Collection.
5
In the Index Tree area, double-click on the Training Manual folder, beneath the
Collections folder.
The thumbnail window displays the contents of the Training Manual Collection.
6
Click on the thumbnail with the caption FILEMENU.BMP.
The caption beneath the thumbnail becomes highlighted, and the file name
FILEMENU.BMP appears in the Name area.

7
To ensure that the image imports at the correct size, you can set import
options. To set import options, click on the Options button.
You will see the Options dialog box. This dialog box allows you to set import
options. Import options allow you to specify certain characteristics of the file before you import it. In
this procedure, you will be specifying the height and width of the file.
8
Pull down the scaling area and click on Fit in Frame.
The imported image will fit in a frame whose height and width you will set later in
this procedure.
9
Pull down the Units area and select Inches.
This selection changes the unit of measure of the imported file to inches.
10
Click in the Maximum Width area and type 1.5. Click in the Maximum Height
area and type 1.5.
The size of the imported image will be 1.5 inches wide by 1.5 inches tall which will
fit well on the page.
11
Click on OK to return to the Smuggler dialog box.

12
In the Smuggler dialog box, click on OK.
The Smuggler dialog box closes and the image of the File menu appears in the
document where the cursor was located.
The first page of the manual is complete and ready to be saved.

Saving the Training Manual

You have finished using Windows Write for this tutorial; therefore, you can
close the application.
Pull down the File menu and click on Exit.
Windows Write closes and focus returns to HiJaak Browser.
Exiting HiJaak Graphics Suite
You have completed this tutorial. Recall that you still have two HiJaak Graphics
Suite programs running. Close these programs as follows:
1
In HiJaak Browser, pull down the File menu and click on Exit.
You will see a message indicating that you have an unsaved temporary search and
prompting you to save. Recall that earlier in this tutorial you searched for the text of the training
manual by file type and location. Since you have added the file to the Training Manual Collection,
there is no need to save the search. Click on No to close HiJaak Browser without saving the
temporary search. HiJaak Browser closes.
2
Press the Alt+Tab keys. As you press these keys you will see a box containing
the name and icon of another active Windows application. Press the Alt+Tab keys until the box

You have finished this tutorial. You can take a break or go on to Tutorial
II.

Tutorial II--Creating a Business Card
In this tutorial you will use HiJaak Draw to create a business card for a graphics
design company you are starting; the name of the company is Bold Designs.
What You'll Learn
In this tutorial you will learn how to use HiJaak Draw. You will learn how to
open and import files into HiJaak Draw; how to draw attention to text by adding some simple effects
such as making text bold and italic, changing point size and leading; and how to enhance a graphic
by enclosing it within a rectangle.
When you complete this tutorial, you will be able to accomplish the following
tasks:
Open a HiJaak Draw file
Import graphics files into HiJaak Draw
Perform text layout in HiJaak Draw
Import an image using HiJaak Draw
Print a file from HiJaak Draw
Running HiJaak Draw
In this section you use the HiJaak Draw icon in the HiJaak Graphics program
group to run HiJaak Draw.
Running HiJaak Draw
You run HiJaak Draw the same way you run other Windows applications.

These selections tell HiJaak Draw that the file you want to import is in the
C:\INSET\TUTORIAL subdirectory.
4
In the File list box, click on the file CARDTEXT.PDW.
This is the name of the file that contains the text for the business card.
5
Click on Open.
The Open Drawing File dialog box closes. Depending on the fonts on your system,
you may see a Font Mapping dialog box. If you see this dialog box, select either Arial or Helvetica
from the font list and OK. The text of the business card appears in the Main screen.

Formatting Text
Formatting text allows you to change the appearance of the text by changing
such elements as the size of the text, making text bold or italic, and changing the space between the
lines of text. When you change the formatting of text, you can draw attention to certain areas of the
text and improve the overall appearance of a document. You can format text with the Text tool.
HiJaak Draw supports two types of text tools: Text Effects and Block Text. The Text Effects tool
allows you to create title text for your illustrations. The Block Text tool allows you to enter linked
blocks of text and format imported text. In the following procedure, you will use the Block Text tool
to change size, leading and type style of the imported text.

1
Click once on the Block Text tool to select it.
The Block Text tool is the third icon down in the drawing tool panel at the far left
of the Main screen. If you do not see the Block Text tool, place the cursor over third icon and click
and hold down the the mouse button. You will see a pop-up palette that contains the Block Text tool.
Move the cursor over the Block Text tool and release the mouse button to select it.
2
Select the first line of text: Position the cursor before the word "Bold." Click
and drag the cursor to the end of the line. Release the mouse button after the word "Designs" is
highlighted.
Any formatting options that you select will be applied to the highlighted text.
3
Pull down the Type menu and click on Size. You will see the Size submenu.
Click on Other. You will see the Point Size dialog box. In the Points field, type 27. Click on OK.
The size of the selected text increases to 27 points. The name of the company is
now on two lines. Notice that there is too much space between the lines; they seem to be disconnected.
Space between lines is called leading. By default, leading is relative to point size. You can, however,
change the leading of any text.
4
Pull down the Type menu and click on Leading. In the Leading Submenu, click
on Other. You will see the Leading dialog box.
The Relative radio button is selected and the field to the right of this radio button is highlighted. In
this field, type 85. This value tells HiJaak Draw to decrease the leading to 85% of the default. Click
on OK.
The selected lines move closer together.
5
Pull down the Type menu and click on Type Styles. In the Type Styles
submenu, click on Bold.
The name of the company becomes bold.
6
Pull down the Type menu and click on Type Styles. In the Type Styles
submenu, click on Italics.
The name of the company becomes italicized.
7
Select the second line of text, "graphics design with flair." This line is the tag
line of the company. Pull down the Type menu and click on Type Styles. In the Type Styles submenu,
click on Italics.
The tag line becomes italicized.
8
Position the cursor after the word "flair." Press the Enter key once (Return on
some computers).
HiJaak Draw inserts a line break after the word "flair." This break separates the
company's tag line from the address and telephone number. Since you want people to call you when
they need graphics design services, you should make the telephone number stand out from the rest of
the address.

9
Select the telephone number: 789-555-1234. Pull down the Type menu and click
on Size. You will see the Size submenu. Click on 11.
The size of the selected text increases to 11 points. The telephone number is just
slightly larger than the rest of the address, but it will draw attention to the number. To make the
telephone number stand out even more, you can make it bold.
If you cannot see the number, click once on the pointer tool to select it, and then
click on the text. You will see a bounding box around the text. Click on one of the squares at the
bottom of the box and drag down until you can see the number. Click on the Block Text tool to select
it.
10
Pull down the Type menu and click on Type Styles. In the Type Styles
submenu, click on Bold.
The telephone number becomes bold.
Later, you will import a graphic and create some special effects to complete the
business card. Now, you should save your project.

C:\INSET\TUTORIAL subdirectory.
4
In the File list box, click on the file UPARROW.CGM.
This is the name of the graphics file that you will be importing.
5
Click on Import.
The Import Files dialog box closes and the image of an arrow pointing up appears
in the business card.
6
If you cannot see the entire image, click once on the View menu to pull it down.
Click on Show all Objects.
The view is zoomed out and you can now see the entire arrow. Notice however,
that the arrow is in the middle of the card and that it is too large to fit in the business card. HiJaak
Draw lets you move and resize objects in your artwork.
Moving and Resizing an Object
In this procedure, you will move the image of the arrow so that it lines up with
the top and right margins of the business card. You will also resize the arrow so that it fits within the
card.
1
Click on the Selection tool located at the top of the tool panel.
The Selection tool becomes the active tool. The selection tool allows you to select
text and objects within the HiJaak Draw artwork.
2
To select the image, place the cursor over the image of the arrow and click the
mouse button.
Eight squares appear around the image indicating that it is selected.
3
To move the image, with the cursor still over the image, click and hold down
the mouse button and drag the image to the right. Drag to the right until the right edge of the image
box is aligned with the right margin of the business card. Now, drag the image down until the top
edge of the image box is aligned with the top margin. Release the mouse button.
When you drag the image, the original image does not move, but you will see an
outline of the image. Make sure this outline lines up with the proper edges of the business card. When
you release the mouse button, the image will move to where the outline is located. Now that the image
is in the right location, you can resize it.

4
To resize the image, place the cursor over the bottom left bounding square
surrounding the image. Click and hold down the mouse button and drag the square up to the bottom
margin. Drag across so the left side of the image box is about 3/4 of an inch from the right margin:
You can use the ruler along the top of the Main screen as a guide. Release the mouse button.
When the cursor is over the bounding square, the square will blink. The arrow is
now resized and in the position you want it to be.
To complete the look of the business card, you can enclose the arrow in a rectangle
of another color.

Drawing a Rectangle
HiJaak Draw provides tools for drawing various shapes. In this procedure you
will draw a rectangle within which you will enclose the image of the arrow. You will also add color to
the rectangle to brighten the look of the business card.
1
Click on the Rectangle tool to select it.
The rectangle tool allows you to draw squares and rectangles.
2
To create the rectangle, position the mouse in the upper-right corner of the
document, where the top and right margins meet. Click the mouse button and drag the rectangle to
the bottom margin, and to the left far enough to enclose the image of the arrow. Release the mouse
button.
HiJaak Draw creates a rectangle with handles on the four corners. The handles
indicate that the rectangle is selected. The rectangle is not filled with any color but is outlined with
black. You can use the color bar to change the both the fill and outline of the rectangle.
3
To fill the rectangle with a color, move the cursor to the color bar and click on
the bright yellow square. To change the color of the outline, click the secondary mouse button on the
same color.
The rectangle is filled and outlined with the bright yellow color. You will not be
able to see the arrow because the rectangle is on top of it. You need to move the rectangle behind the
arrow.
4
To move the rectangle behind the arrow, make sure the rectangle is still
selected. When the rectangle is selected, you will see a bounding box surrounding it. Click once on the
Arrange menu to pull it down. Click on Send to Back.
The rectangle moves behind the arrow, making the arrow visible.
Saving the Business Card
The business card is complete and you can save your changes.
Click once on the File menu to pull it down. Click on Save.
The HiJaak Draw status bar indicates the progress of your save. When it reaches

on Yes to change the paper orientation. HiJaak Draw sends the file to the printer.
Exiting HiJaak Draw
You have completed the business card. All you have to do is close HiJaak Draw
and you will be done.
In HiJaak Draw, pull down the File menu and click on Exit.
HiJaak Draw closes.
You can take a break or go on to Tutorial III.
Tutorial III--Creating a Birth Announcement
In this tutorial, you will create the front of a birth announcement for a friend
who has just had a baby. Your friend scanned a picture her newborn and saved it as a file. You will
use HiJaak Browser to search for the scanned image and launch both HiJaak Paint and HiJaak
Draw. You will use HiJaak Paint to edit the image and HiJaak Draw to lay out the cover of the
announcement.
What You'll Learn
In this tutorial, you will learn how to use HiJaak Browser, HiJaak Paint and
HiJaak Draw. You will use HiJaak Browser to search for a file and to open both HiJaak Paint and
HiJaak Draw. You will use HiJaak Paint to crop an image, create test strips to see at what brightness
level the image will look best, adjust the brightness of the image, and save a file. Finally, you will use
HiJaak Draw to layout the announcement: you will center the image on the page, add text and color
to the page, and save the completed file.
When you complete this tutorial, you will be able to accomplish the following:
Search for files by name and location in HiJaak Browser
Launch other applications and open files from HiJaak Browser
Crop an image in HiJaak Paint
Create test strips in HiJaak Paint
Adjust the brightness of an image in HiJaak Paint
Save a file in HiJaak Paint
Layout text in HiJaak Draw
Save a file in HiJaak Draw
Print an image from HiJaak Draw
Working With HiJaak Browser
In this section, you will run HiJaak Browser and then use its searching feature to
find the image of the baby. You will then use then use HiJaak Browser to launch HiJaak Paint and
open the image.
Running Browser
You run HiJaak Browser the same way you run other Windows applications.
Double-click on the HiJaak Browser program icon which is located in the HiJaak
Graphics Suite program group.
You will see the HiJaak Browser Main Screen: see Figure 4-5. For a
description of the HiJaak Browser Main screen, see page 4-9.

Searching for Files By Name and Location
Recall that your friend scanned the image of the baby and saved it as a file.
Unfortunately, you cannot remember exactly where she saved it or what the name of the file is. The
only things you are sure of is that the name of the file contains the letters BABY and it is
somewhere on the C:\ drive. With this information, you can use HiJaak Browser to search for the
scanned image of the baby. HiJaak Browser allows you to search for files on various criteria. Two of
these criteria are file name and location. In the following procedure, you will use the information you
know about the file-the partial name and location-to locate the image.
1
Click on the Search button in the button bar.
You will see the Search dialog box.
2
Click in the File Name field and type the following: BABY.
3
Click on the arrow to the right of the Match drop-down list to pull down the
list and view its contents. In the list, click on Contains.
This selection tells HiJaak Browser to search for files whose names contain the
letters BABY. You can also use the Match search criteria to search for files that begin
with or end with the letters in the File Name field, or to search for files whose names exactly match
the name in the File Name field. These different match possibilities are useful for finding files
whether you know the exact file name or whether you can only remember a few letters in the name.
4
Click in the Location field and type the following: C:\.
This selection tells HiJaak Browser to search the C:\ drive for files
that match the other criteria you select in the Search dialog box. If you do not specify a location for
HiJaak Browser to search, it will search only those files that have been added to the Index.

5
Click on OK.
HiJaak Browser searches the C:\ drive for files whose names contain
the letters BABY. You will see a Search message box telling you what directories HiJaak
Browser is "Searching" and how many files it has found.
When the search is complete the message box disappears, the contents of the
thumbnail window are replaced with the search results. These results are called a Search window.
This Search window contains at least one thumbnail: the thumbnail of the baby. The caption beneath
the thumbnail indicates its file name: BABY.PCX. Note that if you had more than one
file on your C:\ drive that contained the letters BABY, the Search window will contain
more than one thumbnail.
You can use this thumbnail to launch HiJaak Paint, where you will enhance the
image for the birth announcement.

Enhancing an Image
In this section, you will use the BABY.PCX thumbnail to launch
HiJaak Paint. Then, you'll use HiJaak Paint to enhance the image. When you look at the image, you
will notice that it contains extra white space. You'll use HiJaak Paint to crop the image and remove
this white space. You will also notice that the image appears dark and the baby's face look very red.
You will correct these flaws by adjusting the brightness to lighten the image and gamma to reduce
the redness. To help you decide how much to change these values, you will create test strips. Finally,
you will save the image and exit HiJaak Paint.
Launching HiJaak Paint
You can use HiJaak Browser to launch HiJaak Paint and open
BABY.PCX. HiJaak Paint is an editing program that allows you to create, edit and
enhance images. Viewing the file in HiJaak Paint will allow you to decide if it needs to be enhanced.
The HiJaak Browser Application bar is located along the far-right side of the Main
screen. It contains program icons that you can use to open the applications. To launch HiJaak Paint
and open the file BABY.PCX, click on the BABY.PCX thumbnail, drag to
the HiJaak Paint icon in the HiJaak Browser application bar, and release the mouse button.
HiJaak Paint opens with BABY.PCX in its Main screen:
see Figure 4-6.
You can use HiJaak Paint to edit the image before placing it in HiJaak Draw.

Cropping an Image
As you look at the image, you will notice that there is a lot of extra white space in
it. You can use HiJaak Paint to crop the image and reduce the amount of white space surrounding
the baby's face. Removing the excess white space will make the the file smaller and and it allow you
to position objects closer to the baby when you lay out the announcement. The following procedure
shows you how to crop the image. To crop an image, you need to draw a frame around the area that
you want to keep.
1
Click on the Create Frame button.
Notice that when you place the cursor over the image, the cursor looks like this:

2
In addition to the white space that surrounds the image, there is a yellowish
border around the baby. When you crop the image, the area inside the frame will remain: you want
to leave the entire yellowish border and some of the white space. Position the cursor against the left
edge of the image and high enough in the image so that it is above the yellow border.

3
Click and hold down the mouse button. Now, drag the cursor to the right and
then down far enough to enclose the yellow border and include some white space. Release the mouse
button.
Remember that the area within the frame is the area that you want to keep after
cropping. You do not want to remove all of the white space. If there is too much or not enough white
space around the area that will remain after cropping, you can redraw the frame. Follow steps 1-3 of
this procedure until you create the size frame you want. Now you're ready to crop.

4
Click once on the Image menu to pull it down. Click on Crop/Matte.
You will see the Crop/Matte dialog box.
5
In the Crop Margins area, click on the Square radio button.
This setting tells HiJaak Paint to crop to a rectangular area. The settings in the
Left, Right, Top and Bottom fields in the Crop Margins area represent the measurements of the
frame you created in step 3. Do not change these fields.
6
The Corners area of the dialog box allows you to select the size and style of the
corner crop. Do not change the value in the Size field; the default should be fine. In the Style area,
click on the down arrow on the right of the Top/Left drop-down list. From this list, select Square.
Square is the first selection in the list. Repeat this process in the Top/Right, Bottom/Left and
Bottom/Right drop-down lists.

When the image is cropped, the corners will be squared off.
7
Click on OK.
HiJaak Paint creates a new, untitled image and opens it on top of the original. The
new image is cropped with the settings you selected.
Now you have a new image, you should save your work.

Note:
Sometimes it is difficult to judge the exact area included within the frame. If you are
not satisfied with the new image, you can repeat this procedure. Double-click on the system bar in the
upper-left corner of the new image to close it. Then, repeat this procedure. Notice that your settings
in the Crop/Matte dialog box are saved.

Saving an Image
Since you have created a new, untitled image, you should save it. Always
remember to save a file after you have done a significant amount of work.
1
Click on the new image to make it active.
2
Click once on the File menu to pull it down. Click on Save As.
You will see the Save File As dialog box.
3
Click once on the down arrow beside the Drives drop-down list. Click on
C:\.

4
In the Directories area, double-click on C:\ to get to the root of the C drive,
then double-click on the INSET directory. Double-click on the TUTORIAL
folder.
These selections tell HiJaak Paint to save the file in the directory
C:\INSET\TUTORIAL.
5
Click on the down arrow in the List Files of Type drop-down list to open the list
and view its contents. Click on ZSoft (PCX).
This selection tells HiJaak Paint to save the file in PCX format.
6
Double-click in the File Name field and type the following:
 EDITBABY.PCX.
7
Click on OK.
HiJaak Paint saves the new image as EDITBABY.PCX in
C:\INSET\TUTORIAL.

Adjusting the Brightness and Gamma of the Image
HiJaak Paint allows you to adjust brightness, contrast and gamma using the
slide bars in the Ribbon Controls. Increasing Brightness lightens the image. Increasing Contrast
makes light colors lighter and dark colors darker. Increasing Gamma lightens the middle range
colors, while leaving dark and light areas alone. Looking at the image you have open, you may notice
that the image seems to be dark overall, indicating that you need to increase brightness. But how
much? To make it easy for you to decide, HiJaak Paint provides test strips. Using test strips you can
look at the image with varying degrees of brightness before you change it. When you decide the level
of brightness and gamma you want to use, you can use the sliders in the Ribbon to adjust it.
The Ribbon Controls are located on the left-hand side of the HiJaak Paint Main
window. These controls allow you to adjust brightness, contrast and gamma, zoom, pan, and to work
with frames. Notice as you pass the cursor over each tool in the ribbon, a status bar message appears
at the bottom of the Window indicating what operation the tool performs.
The following procedure shows you how to use test strips and how to adjust
brightness and gamma.
1
Click on the EDITBABY.PCX image you saved in the last
procedure.
Clicking on the image selects it and tells HiJaak Paint that this is the image on
which you want to perform the next operation.
2
Click once on the Image menu to pull it down, then click on Test Strips. You
will see the Test Strips submenu. In the Test Strips submenu, click on Gamma*Brightness.
You will see the Gamma/Brightness Test Strips dialog box. This dialog box
contains the settings for how many gamma/brightness tests will be generated. The default is 2x2, or 4.
For this image, a few more test strips will be helpful.
3
In the Number of Images area, double-click in the Horizontal field and type 3.
Double-click in the Vertical field and type 3.
These settings will increase the number of test strips to 9.
4
Double-click in the Resize Image area and type 25.
The value in the Resize Image area determines the size of each test strip image as a
percentage of the original image's size. The size of each image in the test strip will be 25% the size of
the original image.
5
In the Gamma/Brightness Test Strips dialog box, click on OK.
A status box indicating that HiJaak Paint is generating the test strips appears,
then you will see the Gamma/Brightness Test Strips, All Channels box. Nine copies, or tests, of the
image, each with a different gamma and brightness are located within this box. The gamma and
brightness levels of each test are indicated beneath the test image. Notice that the upper-left image
has a gamma level of 1.00 and a brightness level of 50%, which are the original values for the image;
this is the control image.
Note that this box is treated the same as any image in HiJaak Paint; it can be
saved, printed or modified.
6
Look at the 9 test strips, and decide which one looks the best to you. We liked
center image: gamma 1.47 and brightness 63%. Your choice depends on your monitor, resolution,
printing device and individual taste. If you select a different test strip, note the gamma and
brightness levels for that test strip and use those values when you adjust the brightness and gamma.
If you cannot see all of the test images, you may have to use the scroll bars to scroll
through the image. In the scroll bar you will see a box. To scroll through the image click on this box
and drag in the direction you want to scroll. For example, if you want to scroll down in the image,
click on the box and drag down.
7
Double-click on the System bar in the upper-left corner of the
Gamma/Brightness Test Strips box to close it.
You will see a message box asking if you want to save the untitled image; click on
No. The cropped image becomes active again.
8
To change the brightness of the cropped image, use the Brightness scroll bar
which is the first of the three scroll bars in the Ribbon control. Click on the Brightness slider and
drag up until the number beneath the slider reads 63.
Hint: Depending on your mouse, it may be difficult to adjust the Brightness to
exactly 63. Any value between 56 and 60 should still look fine.
The new image brightens by 13%.
9
To change the Gamma of the cropped image, use the Gamma scroll bar which is
the third of the three scroll bars in the Ribbon control. Click on the Gamma slider and drag up until
the number beneath the slider reads 1.47.
Hint: Depending on your mouse, it may be difficult to adjust the Gamma to exactly
1.47. Any value between 1.45 and 1.50 should still look fine.
Now that you have edited the image, you can save it.

Directories, Collections and Searches on the left and the Thumbnail Window representing files on
the right. These are the same components that comprise the HiJaak Browser Main screen.
Notice that most folders in the Index tree are yellow and that the folder labeled
INSET is cyan. The cyan color tells you that the files in the INSET directory are in the HiJaak
Browser Index. The Index is a road map to all files organized with HiJaak Browser. Although the
Index does not contain the files themselves, it does contain information about the files such as file
name, location, date, size, class, format, keywords and attributes. HiJaak Smuggler uses the
HiJaak Browser Index to allow you to search for files to import.
If this is the first time you have run HiJaak Smuggler, the Index window you are
looking at contains information about the C:\INSET subdirectory. The INSET folder in the Index
Tree is open, and the Thumbnail Window contains thumbnails representing files located in the

INSET directory.
When you are ready to learn more about adding files and directories to the Index,
search on the keyword "Index" in the HiJaak Browser online Help file.

You can use HiJaak Browser to search for the scanned image of the baby. HiJaak
Browser allows you to search for files on various criteria. Two of the these criteria are File Name and
Location.
1
Click on the Search button in the button bar.

how many files it has found. When the search is complete the message box disappears, you will see a
Processing status box. When this status box disappears, the contents of the thumbnail window are replaced
with the search results. These results are called a Search window. This Search window contains one
thumbnail of a baby. The caption beneath the thumbnail indicates its file name: BABY.PCX.
You can use this thumbnail to launch HiJaak Browser and open the image.

Launching HiJaak TouchUp
You can use HiJaak Browser to launch HiJaak TouchUp and open the file
BABY.PCX.
Click on the BABY.PCX thumbnail and drag to the HiJaak TouchUp icon in the HiJaak
Browser application bar. HiJaak TouchUp opens with BABY.PCX in its main screen. You can use HiJaak
TouchUp to edit the image before placing it in HiJaak Draw.

Cropping an Image
When you look at the image of the baby in HiJaak TouchUp, you will notice that there
is extra white space around the baby's face. You can use HiJaak TouchUp to crop the image and remove
this white space, making the image smaller and more focused on the image of the baby. The following
procedure shows you how to crop the image. To crop an image, you need to draw a frame around the area
that you want to keep.

1. Click on the Create Frame button.
Notice that when you place the cursor over the image, the cursor looks like this: [insert: screen
capture of cursor]
2. Position the cursor to the left of and just above the baby's head.

3. Click and hold down the mouse button . Now, drag the cursor to the right of and just below the
baby's head. Release the mouse button.
Remember that the area within the frame is the area that you want to keep after cropping. If you
have drawn the frame too large or too small, you can redraw the frame. Follow steps 1-3 of this
procedure until you create the size frame you want. Now you're ready to crop.
4. Click once on the Image menu to pull it down. Click on Crop/Matte.
You will see the Crop/Matte dialog box.
5. In the Crop Margins area, click on the Square radio button.
This setting tells HiJaak TouchUp to crop to a rectangular area. The settings in the Left, Right,
Top and Bottom fields in the Crop Margins area represent the measurements of the frame you
created in step 3. Do not change these fields.
6. The Corners area of the dialog box allows you to select the size and style of the corner crop. Do not
change the value in the Size field; the default should be fine. In the Style area, click on the down
arrow on the right of the Top/Left drop-down list. From this list, select Square. Square is the
first selection in the list. Repeat this process in the Top/Right, Bottom/Left and Bottom/Right
drop-down lists.
When the image is cropped, the corners will be squared off.
7. Click on OK.
HiJaak TouchUp creates a new, unnamed image and opens it on top of the original. The new
image is cropped with the settings you selected.

Now you can try to brighten the image to improve it's overall appearance.

Note: Sometimes it is difficult to judge the exact area included within the frame. If you are not
satisfied with the new image, you can repeat this procedure. Double-click on the system bar in the
upper-left corner of the new image to close it. Then, repeat this procedure. Notice that your
settings in the Crop/Matte dialog box are saved.

Adjusting the Brightness and Gamma of the Image
HiJaak TouchUp allows you to adjust brightness, contrast and gamma using the slide
bars in the Ribbon Controls. Increasing Brightness lightens the image; increasing Contrast makes light
colors lighter and dark colors darker; increasing Gamma lightens the middle range colors, while leaving
dark and light areas alone. Looking at the image you have open, you may notice that the image seems to be
dark overall, indicating that you need to increase brightness. But how much? To make it easy for you to
decide, HiJaak TouchUp provides test strips. Using test strips you can look at the image with varying
degrees of brightness before you change it. When you decide the level of brightness and gamma you want
to use, you can use the sliders in the Ribbon to adjust it.

On the left-hand side of the HiJaak TouchUp Main window are located the Ribbon
Controls. These controls allow you to adjust brightness, contrast and gamma, zoom, pan, and work with
frames. Notice as you pass the cursor over each tool in the ribbon, a status bar message appears at the
bottom of the Window indicating what operation the tool performs.
The following procedure shows you how to use test strips and how to adjust brightness and gamma.
1. Click on the new image you created in the last procedure.
Clicking on the image selects it and tells HiJaak TouchUp that this is the image on which you
want to perform the next operation.

Strips submenu. In the Test Strips submenu, click on Gamma*Brightness.

with a different gamma and brightness are located within this box. The gamma and brightness
levels of each test are indicated beneath the test image. Notice that the upper-right image has a
gamma level of 1.00 and a brightness level of 50%, which are the original values forh the image;
this is the control image.
Note that this box is treated the same as any image in HiJaak TouchUp; it can be saved, printed or
modified.

to close it.
You will see a message box asking if you want to save the untitled image; click on No. The
cropped image becomes active again.

the three scroll bars in the Ribbon control. Click on the Brightness slider and drag up until the
number beneath the slider reads 63.
Hint: Depending on your mouse, it may be difficult to adjust the Brightness to exactly 58. Any
value between 56 and 60 should still look fine.

The new image will brighten by 13%.
7. To change the Gamma of the cropped image, use the Gamma scroll bar which is the third of the
three scroll bars in the Ribbon control. Click on the Gamma slider and drag up until the number
beneath the slider reads 1.47.
