Installing HiJaak Graphics Suite
This chapter describes how to install all or part of HiJaak Graphics Suite from
CD-ROM, floppy disks or the network. It also describes how to configure HiJaak
Graphics Suite after it is installed.
Installation
System Requirements
COMPUTER: You need an IBM PC or compatible with a 386 (minimum), 486 or
Pentium class microprocessor, 4 megabytes RAM and Microsoft Windows version 3.1 or
later running in enhanced mode to run HiJaak Graphics Suite. A math co-processor will speed up
DXF and PCL conversions substantially.

Note: You need at least a 256 color display mode to use HiJaak PRO's
Change a Color feature with vector images.

DISK DRIVES: If you are installing from floppy disks, you need a hard disk with at least 25
megabytes of free disk space to install the entire Suite. If you are installing from CD-
ROM, you need a hard disk with at least 40 megabytes of free disk space, this includes 18 mb
to install a Browser Index of clip art files. If you don't have enough space available, you can install a
subset of HiJaak Graphics Suite or, if you have the CD-ROM, run portions of it directly
from the CD-ROM. If you are using HiJaak Graphics Suite to convert files from one
format to another, you will need enough additional disk space to store both the original and the
converted files.

Compatibility with Previous Versions
Although HiJaak PRO version 3.0 can co-exist with HiJaak PRO version 2.0, HiJaak Browser 2.0 folder files are not compatible with HiJaak Browser 3.0.
You can install HiJaak PRO version 3.0 without removing version
2.0, but you cannot install them in the same directory. If you attempt to install them in the same
directory, the install will abort.
Installing HiJaak Graphics Suite on a Stand Alone System
This section describes how to install HiJaak Graphics Suite from floppy disks or
CD-ROM. You can install the entire Suite or only selected portions onto your hard
drive. If you are installing from CD-ROM, you can also run all or part of HiJaak
Graphics Suite directly from CD-ROM. Running HiJaak Graphics Suite from CD-
ROM requires substantially less disk space on your hard drive, but the programs in HiJaak
Graphics Suite may run more slowly. If you remove the CD-ROM at any time, the
programs won't be available.
How to Install HiJaak Graphics Suite on a Stand Alone System
Note:
If you are installing on a network server, see How to Install HiJaak Graphics Suite on
a Network Server, later in this chapter.
1 Run Windows as you normally would.
2 From the Windows Program Manager, pull down the File menu and click on
Run. You will see the Run dialog box.
3 If you are installing from floppy disks, put the disk labeled Disk 1 into the A:
drive or the B: drive.
If you are installing from CD-ROM, put the CD-
ROM into your CD-ROM drive.

4 Type the letter of the drive in which you put the disk or CD-ROM
followed by INSTALL.
If you put the disk in the A: drive, type
A:\INSTALL.
If you put the disk in the B: drive, type B:\INSTALL.
If you put the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive, type
D:\INSTALL, where D is replaced by the letter assigned to
the CD-ROM drive.
Click on OK.
5 You will see a screen informing you that HiJaak Graphics Suite is loading the
install program, then you will see the Serial Number dialog box.
Click in the Name area and type your name. Click in the Company Name
area and type your company name. Click in the Serial Number area and type the 8
character serial number found on the registration card in the front of this manual.
Click on OK. You will see the HiJaak Graphics
Suite Installation Options dialog box.

6 In the Install Options area, select how you want to install HiJaak Graphics
Suite. You have the choice of Full Install, Run from CD-ROM or Custom.
Full InstallSelect this option to install all files onto your hard
drive. When installing from floppies, Full Install requires about 25 mb of space. When installing
from CD-ROM, it requires about 40 mb, including 18 mb for a Browser Index of clip
art files. Full Install from CD-ROM does not install the clip art files, but you can use
this Browser Index to access the files when the CD-ROM is in the drive. To install clip
art file locally, select Custom Install and then select the Copy to INSET Directory check
box for Clip Art. You will need at least 26 mb of free disk space to install all clip art files from the
CD-ROM.

Run from CD-ROMSelect this option if you are
installing from the CD-ROM and want to run HiJaak Graphics Suite from the CD-
ROM. If you select this option, program files will not be installed to your hard drive;
therefore, if you remove the CD-ROM, the files will not be available. This option
requires about 1 mb of disk space.
CustomSelect this option to install selected portions of HiJaak
Graphics Suite from the floppies or CD-ROM. If you are installing from CD-
ROM, you can also use this option to install some files to your hard drive and run others
from the CD-ROM. If you run an option from CD-ROM, the program files
will not be installed to your hard drive; therefore, if you remove the CD-ROM, the files
will not be available. The amount of disk space required for a custom install depends on the options
you select. For help deciding which options to install, see Suggested Install Options in
Chapter 1: Introducing HiJaak Graphics Suite.

7 The Directory Options area allows you to specify where you want to install
HiJaak Graphics Suite. Click in the HiJaak Graphics Suite Directory field and type the path where
you want to install HiJaak Graphics Suite. The default is C:\INSET. If you selected Run
from CD-ROM in step 6, the HiJaak Graphics Suite directory is the same as your
CD-ROM directory.
Click in the Browser Index Directory field and type the path where you want to
install the Browser Index. The default is C:\INSET. The Browser Index is a group of
files that contain all of the information about files organized with HiJaak Browser.
Click on OK.
8 If you have already installed this version or an earlier version of HiJaak
Graphics Suite, you will see the Backing Up Browser Index files dialog box. When HiJaak Browser is
installed, it installs a default Index. If you have made any changes to this Index, you should back up
the Index files or you will lose any Collections, Searches and thumbnails that you created in that

Index.

To continue the install without backing up the default Index, click on the
Proceed without Backing Up radio button and click on OK.
To back up the default Index, click on the Make a Backup Copy in Another
Directory radio button. Click in the Backup to Directory field and type the path where you want to
save the backup files. Click on OK.

9 What happens next depends upon the install option you selected in step 6.
FULL INSTALL: If you selected Full Install, you will see
the DOS Screen Capture Fonts dialog box. If you need to capture text mode screens
with text in European languages, click on the Code Page 850 radio button. If you don't need these
special fonts, click on U.S. Fonts. Click on OK. The installation of files onto your system
begins. Follow the instructions on your screen.
RUN FROM CD-ROM: If you selected Run from
CD-ROM, the installation of any necessary files begins.
CUSTOM INSTALL: If you selected Custom, you will see
the Custom Install Options dialog box. Each option is described on the next page.
If you are installing from floppy disks, select the Install to INSET
Directory check box beside each option you want to install: see Figure 2-1. If you don't
want to install an option, deselect the Install to INSET Directory check box. Click on
OK. Follow any instructions on your screen.
If you are installing from CD-ROM, you can install an option to
the INSET directory or run it from CD-ROM. To install an option to
the INSET directory, select the Install to INSET Directory check box. To
run an option from CD-ROM, select the Run from CD-ROM check box:
see Figure 2-2. If you do not want to have access to an option, deselect both check boxes. Click

How to Set Up HiJaak Graphics Suite to Run
a Workstation
The following procedure describes how to set up HiJaak Graphics Suite on a
network workstation running Windows 3.1 or later in enhanced mode. Before you can set up HiJaak
Graphics Suite to run on a workstation it must be installed to the network server. For a description
of how to install to a network server, see How to Install HiJaak Graphics Suite on a Network
Server, earlier in this chapter.
Important:
When setting up HiJaak Graphics Suite on a workstation, the drive mapping to the
network version of HiJaak Graphics Suite cannot be map rooted to the INSET directory because the
install will fail. For example, if HiJaak Graphics Suite is installed to
VOL1:\APPS\INSET on the server, do not map root
N:=VOL1:\APPS\INSET. Instead, either map root N:=VOL1:\APPS or
map N:=VOL1:\ on the workstation.
The following workstation setup options are available:
Install to the workstation's hard drive
Run from the network
Install some portions to the hard drive and run others from the network

files that contain all of the information about files organized with HiJaak Browser. Click on
OK.
5 If you have already installed this version or an earlier version of HiJaak
Graphics Suite, you will see the Backing Up Browser Index files dialog box. When HiJaak Browser is
installed, it installs a default Index. If you have made any changes to this Index, you should back up
the Index files or you will lose any Collections, Searches and thumbnails that you created in that
Index.
To continue the install without backing up the default Index, click on the
Proceed without Backing Up radio button and click on OK.
To back up the default Index, click on the Make a Backup Copy in Another
Directory radio button. Click in the Backup to Directory field and type the path where you want to
save the backup the files. Click on OK.

6 You will see the HiJaak Graphics Suite Setup dialog box. This dialog box
contains options for configuring HiJaak Graphics Suite. For a list and description of these options,
