have autoloading disabled, you must issue the following command
right before you are ready to load Lotus:

       VE /F0123

At this point, startup Lotus 1-2-3 with the following command:

       123

123.SET is designed to identify which release of 1-2-3 you're
using and to load a corresponding set file. If you're using
Release 2.4, for example, 123.SET will load 123R2.SET. There are
also a 123R3.SET and a 123R4.SET. In addition, Release 4 has two
more set files: 123EDIT.SET is used when in edit mode and
123DIAL.SET is used in dialogue boxes.

feel free to use the SET2TEXT utility to convert any of the set
files into readable ASCII text files. This way, you can very
easily see exactly how the environment has been setup.

Also, if you have column titles in your worksheet, don't forget
you can use float windows in order to have these titles read to
you. By default, the 123.SET file will not read this
information. In 123R4.SET, windows 18 and 19 are set up as float
windows for labels set up at the beginning of each line and
across the top of each column. Window 18 is set to chain read
window 19. You can define the cursoring keys to read window 18
followed by the light bar if you'd like to hear a row label
followed by a column label followed by the cell contents.
