You can use the supplied Quickbooks environment with Quickbooks
2.0 and Vocal-Eyes 3.0.

With autoloading enabled, which is the default, Vocal-Eyes will
automatically load the QB.SET and QB.CHR files. If you have
autoloading disabled, you will need to issue the following
command right before you are ready to load Quickbooks:

                      VE /CQB /F0QB

This will load both the character dictionary and the appropriate
.SET file. Note that you need to use the above command only if
you've disabled autoloading.

At this point, start up Quickbooks with the following
command:

                               QB

As you can see, the autoloading approach is much simpler.

You now have a talking version of Quickbooks. Remember, you can
change any of the default values supplied here. This is simply
meant to get you started.

Most of the standard read hot keys have been changed because of
conflicts with Quickbooks hot keys. A list of read hot keys for
Quickbooks 2.0 follows:

ALT-C reads the current character
ALT-W reads the current word
ALT-L reads the current line
CTRL-H reads the heading. In the register, this is the
column heading. When a message box appears, this is
the heading of the box. In the pull-down menus, this
           is the menu title.
ALT-I reads the instructions at the bottom of the screen
ALT-M reads the menu at the top of the screen
SHIFT-F10 is the bypass key

In the register:

ALT-F reads the current field. This is the text at the
cursor position in the highlighted entry.
ALT-T reads the contents of the payment column
ALT-D reads the contents of the deposit column

Quickbooks puts "boxes" on the screen with menus or messages.
Although these look more or less like boxes, they actually have
only three sides and are distinguished by color. Because of
this, there are a number of SET files which call each other and
read specific regions or attributes. What this means to you is
that you will need to change a number of color settings in these
SET files if you decide to change the color selection in
Quickbooks.

You may want to change the rate, pitch, etc. in all of the set
files at once. You can do this by using SET2TEXT and TEXT2SET
supplied with Vocal-Eyes. Feel free to use the utility SET2TEXT
to convert the supplied .SET files into readable ASCII text
files. This will show you all of the settings in a more readable
format.
