NEW FEATURES ADDED IN NETSHIELD 1.6 (04/01/94) Version 1.6 of NETSHIELD adds several new features and enhancements over the prior release, Version 1.56. o NETSHIELD now broadcasts virus incident messages to all users on the 'Users to notify' list if a virus is found on the last volume during Immediate and Periodic Scanning. o You may now select a list of files to be skipped during On-Access Scanning. This list may be created by selecting Configuration options -> What to Scan -> Files not to scan on access from the Main Menu. Fixes and performance enhancements added in this release include: o NETSHIELD no longer attempts to access or checksum the Novell bindery files. This eliminates the problem reported by some users of bindery files being moved during On-Access Scanning. o NETSHIELD no longer generates a 'NetWare detected a Thread going to sleep when it was not allowed.' Abend on NetWare v4.01 servers. o Shrank the memory utilization some on most platforms. o CPU utilization during checksumming has been reduced significantly. o Checksumming was not being started when a configuration file was auto-loaded at startup. o Picklists no longer return incorrect file specifications. o Previously some systems would disable Incoming On-Access Scanning after a period of time. This no longer occurs. o Loading an invalid user-defined external virus signature file will no longer cause a critical error. Open issues with this release of NETSHIELD are: o Incompatibility with Blue Lance LT Auditor 4.0. o Problems may occur when CD-ROM drives multiple unmounts and mounts are performed. NEW FEATURES IN NETSHIELD 1.56 (12/01/93) Version 1.56 of NETSHIELD fixes a problem with On-Access Scanning not detecting viruses when set to "Incoming Only." The On-Access Scanning feature now works as specified in the program documentation. Also fixed in this release is NETSHIELD causing a GPPE error when a DISMOUNT or DOWN command is issued while On- Access Scanning is being performed.
