You as the potential user must take responsibil- ity for its use. If you should reboot your system in the middle of some activities, like defragmenting your hard disk, you may end up with an real mess on your hands! When it comes to this utility, think before you act. The reason for using TSRBOOT is multifold. If you have a computer that does any kind of automated functions this give you the ability to allow your system to exit it's primary duties and also serve secondary functions. This program was written out of need. Our corporate network has one computer that monitors for incoming FAX's all the time. After several virus infections in the area, we decided to have the "FAX Machine" automatically scan the network for any possible virus infections on a daily basis. The problem was that we wanted this to happen automatically without wasting valuable employee time. Since our Fax handling software did not have any smarts regarding "extra" duties, TSRBOOT was developed. With TSRBOOT, the machine that watches our dedicated Fax line, now reboots each Morning at 4AM, it's AUTOEXEC file checks the time on the reboot and if it is 4AM, it executes several housekeeping chores on our network. The system is scanned for virus presence, all old BAK files are deleted, a master directory tree is updated and alphabetized, etc. Then when these chores are complete the system reboots again. This time, it is no longer 4AM (Since these chores normally take about 20 min) and the machine resumes it's duties as our Fax Server. The possible uses for TSRBOOT are vast, any dedicated system can expand its usefulness thru TSRBOOT. Fax Servers, voice-mail systems, control monitoring, even BBS systems can use TSRBOOT to trigger automatic housekeeping tasks making life easier. It is especially useful for Networks that must go down on regular basis for system maintenance. Workstations, Gateways, and Bridges can all be reestablished after regular maintanance down times through the use of TSRBOOT. Suppose for example you have a network with 100 workstations that must be taken down each night from 23:00 to 23:15, with TSRBOOT you can force all attached workstations to reboot at 23:16 to reestablish the net after each service downage. All automatically! TSRBOOT is currently being used to do exactaly this in a Hospital in Independence, MO. and in New York City, Chase Manhatten Bank uses TSRBOOT to reboot their Network Gateways after their MainFrames are downed for maintenance periods and reIPLed. Since we realize that TSRBOOT will only appeal to a very specialized portion of the market, we have chosen to distribute this program as Shareware. This shareware release does require that you manually enter in the time you wish your system to reboot. If you are able to use TSRBOOT and would like to regis- ter, please send $25 to TSRBOOT REGISTRATION - Horizons Consult- ing, Springfield, MO 65803. You will receive the release ver- sion that will permit you to pass the time of reboot on the command line allowing you full automated use of your system. If you have any questions or comments regarding TSRBOOT, please feel free to call us at (417) 839-2174, or Fax us @ (417) 831-1329. Thanks for taking the time to evaluate TSRBOOT. The utility BATTIME is also enclosed as part of the TSRBOOT package. Refer to the file BATTIME.DOC for instructions on it's use. -EOF-
