Number: A3TH072790U221 Subject: ALR 486/25 Machine Using 24MB of RAM Date: August 21, 1990 OS Version: 386 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - GENERAL INFORMATION: A customer reports that they are using an ALR 486/25 EISA machine as a NetWare 386 server under v3.0 Rev. A with 24MB of RAM. He is not using either the Compaq executable patch or the Register statement in AUTOEXEC.NCF in order to recognize his RAM. The ALR 486/25 EISA has not been certified through the IMSP. It has been tested and guaranteed by ALR, however. When Compaq originally wrote the specification for super extended memory in the EISA machines, Novell took that spec. and wrote NetWare 386 v3.0 according to it. Later, Compaq changed the spec. and Novell implemented the Register statement in v3.1 as a fix. Perhaps ALR is following the original EISA specification which would explain why you wouldn't need to run any patches. (X) This information was verified verbally.
