Subject: 68B Mounting Volume Using Disked Date: December 29, 1987 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - GENERAL INFORMATION: The following is a procedure that was used to help a customer get a second volume online that would not mount in an NDS/4 for a 68B file server: 1. The info from COMPSURF re: a drive's format is contained in sector 15 of the hard disk. 2. The vol/sys: was mountable, but the 2nd drive, which was identical as far as mfg and model, was not mounting. 3. As a last ditch effort to bring the 2nd drive online, we went in with Disked.I, read sector 15 from drive 0, changed drives to drive 1, and wrote sector 15 to drive 1. 4. We rebooted the file server and brought it up from the hard disk, and it mounted both volumes. Evidently, the info on sector 15 of drive 1 had been corrupted and by restoring sector 15 from an identical drive, we were able to solve the problem. If this had not worked, the user would have had to reCOMPSURF and loose all data on drive, for which they did not have a backup.
