NUMBER : P4TH062190U56 SUBJECT : IBM 4019 Printer DATE : 6/21/90 OS VERSION : All REVISION : SHELL VERSION : GENERAL INFORMATION : There have been many calls concerning the new model 4019 IBM printer. Here is some some useful information. It seems that that printer comes with a so called "print sharing device", which is a little black box that hides down under the machine and converts an lpt1 port to 6 serial ports and allows 6 stand-alone PCs to share the printer etc. Many people out there are connecting it to a network F/S through this device and are unaware of the configuration required etc. The last customer I worked with reported that they were able to get the printer up as normal when they found out how to bypass the device, and set it up as a standard lpt printer. Their end user however wanted to use the printer with network workstations, stand-alone machines and a vax mini all at the same time! They were actually able to do this by booting the fileserver to dos from floppy then running a batch file to execute the Dos mode command to re-route LPT1 to com1 etc..then they would have the batch file load and run some kind of a TSR program (which comes w/ the printer) to configure the print sharing ports etc. Then they would have the batch file load NET$OS from the floppy.
