WINMENU v6.02 for Novell 3.x Networks. Copyright by Ricky Freyre, 1993 - 1995 / All rights reserved. Compuserve# 70154,2635 Internet: 70154.2635@compuserve.com REQUIRES WINDOWS 3.1 or ABOVE RUNNING UNDER NOVELL 3.0 or above. (Note: A version of Winmenu is available for any network) Tested with Windows For Workgroups, Windows NT, Windows 3.x and Windows 95. Works with clients using VLM or NETX. Winmenu is a state-of-the-art menu program for Windows users designed to facilitate access to all aplications and provide authorized access for the users. Novell LAN sites that are contemplating to move to the Windows environment will find Winmenu a must. Winmenu provides easy and intuitive access without the complications of the Program Manager. The greatest advantages of Winmenu is its ability to ease the administration tasks and provides authorized access based on the group codes the user belongs to. Winmenu looks great and is cost effective!. Latest enhancements in 5.0: Enhanced online help for the administration staff as well as the regular users. The ability to dinamically attach/detach fileservers to execute an application. Very handy for CDROM fileservers!. The ability to restrict the amount of concurrent users for each application. Great to force software and hardware license agreements. Winmenu now executes the programs in the "Startup" group of Program Manager when running as the Windows shell. You may now optionally setup Winmenu to ask for confirmation at exit. Winmenu now displays the user's selected ICON to minimized DOS applications too. More drag-and-drop functionality was added to rearrange the menu items. All the menu section names are now shown in the main screen so that the user can more easily select the desired menu section. The pages names can now be renamed to further organize menu items. Other features: 1) A memory CACHE is used now to greatly improve the response time when loading and changing menu section in Winmenu. 2) An administration facility program was added to facilitate Winmenu's administration tasks. 3) Winmenu now supports IPX/SPX communications to accept remote commands. Network administrators can send a SHUTDOWN command using the aministration facility to close all network connections at each workstation. Other remote commands may be added in the future. 4) Winmenu may optionally display network news at startup. Administrators may setup the news from the administration facility and have it "popup" at each workstation automatically or allow each user to open the news from an icon. 5) Winmenu supports environment variables (i.e %USER%) to greatly enhance the flexibility when executing menu programs. For instance, a given application may require the USERID of the person as part of the command line or you may need to execute an application with a computed directory name. Winmenu may scan the workstation environment table and automatically replace the value in the command line before executing. 6) Winmenu organizes the menu items in menu sections which can then be linked to authorized NOVELL network groups. This effectively utilize the existing authorization resources to handle menu access for each user. Multiple menu sections may be defined under any given group name and each user may belong to multiple groups. Note: Novell 4.0 or above must have the bindery emulation turned ON. 7) Winmenu may optionally allow users to create and change menu items under a specific menu section. All other network menu sections are restricted and can not be changed or deleted by the regular users. Additional features: 1) The menu display can now show the associated ICON for each program. You can also change or setup the associated ICON online. Wimenu has the capability to extract the desired ICON from any file. You may optionally disable the ICON display feature. See 'changing menu lines' in the user's online help (WINMENU.HLP). 2) Event sound effects. You may optionally disable the sound. 3) The USERID and SERVERNAME are displayed at the botton of the screen. 4) Then Multiple Instance Verification (MIV) routine can now be enabled or disabled online. This notifies the user if the program is already running and allows easy recall. 5) The "blue Ribbon utilities" allow easy access to nine utility programs. Any of the blue ribbon utilities can also be accessed from the system menu while WinMenu is minimized for added convinience for the user. 7) WinMenu can replace the Program Manager for complete control. 8) Separate online help available for users and the administrator. 9) Person specific configuration and data may optionally be stored in a network drive. You may use a network mapped drive for better handling. Great for diskless workstations too. Read help under the Sections Menu. 10) An ICON of a "Screen" allow user to invoke their screen saver immediately. 11) Winmenu does not 'mess' with your WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI nor requires copying any system files to the Windows directory. All files are kept in a single directory. KISS concept?. * Please, see the online help file ADMIN.HLP for installation and administration instructions.
