A user presses the icon of the program they wish to run. Each group can hold up to 10 icons, and the Icon Bar can have 10 group tabs. A user can specify whether they want the icon bar to always stay on top or whether it should behave like a regular window. When started it will remember the last location that is was, and whether it should always be on top. Example: 1.2 Requirements The users should have Window 3.1 or higher installed. It will run under NT and OS/2. CHAPTER 2 2.1 Installing Copy the files to a directory on the network, preferably in a directory of their own. You should give all users who will be running LanMenu read/file scan rights to this directory, but no write/create rights 2.2 Setting up Groups and Programs To configure LanMenu, you will need to run the LanEdit program (LanEdit.exe) LanMenu Title field is what you want the window title for LanMenu to be when a user runs it. It will first display LanMenu v1.00 for 30 seconds and then switch over to what is entered in this field. Item Groups display a list of all created groups/tabs. To edit a group either hilight it and then press the button or just double click on it To add a new group press the button to the right of the group list To delete a group, first hilight the group and then press the button to the right of the group list Each group is stored in a directory underneath where LanEdit/LanMenu resides. It uses the Group ID field for the directory name with the Extension of .GRP. The Group Description field is what the Tab will show when a users runs LanMenu. For a group/tab to be visible to a user running LanMenu, that user must have read/file scan rights to the Group Directory. Example: If you installed LanMenu to F:\APPS\LANMENU, and created a group with the ID of MAIN, a user would need rights to F:\APPS\LANMENU\MAIN.GRP for this group to show up when they run LanMenu Programs in Group displays a list of all programs in the selected (hilighted) group. To add a new program press the button to the right of the program list To edit a program either hilight it and then press the button or just double click on it To delete a program first hilight it and then press the button to the right of the program list Each program is stored in a directory underneath its group directory. It uses the Program ID field for the directory name with the Extension of .ITM. For a program to be visible to a user running LanMenu that user must have read/file scan rights to the program directory. Example: You added the program WINFILE.EXE with a program ID of WINFILE to the group MAIN, a user would need read and file scan rights to F:\APPS\LANMENU\MAIN.GRP\WINFILE.ITM for this program to show up when they run LanMenu. The program description is what the popup hint display when the mouse is over the icon The program command line the program to run when the icon is pressed. This can be a windows program or a pif file. You can either enter the path\program manually or press the button to search for the program to add. You can also pass parameters to the program on this line. If you need to add a program that is in the windows directory but don't know the path, just enter the program name without the path. Example: use WINFILE.EXE instead of specifying the full path C:\WINDOWS\WINFILE.EXE since the users could actually have windows installed into a different directory The Working directory is what directory should be made the current directory when the program is run. If it is blank, then it uses whatever directory is already current Run Minimized specifies whether a program should be minimized when it is started Change Icon brings up the Change Icon Dialog from which you can specify an exe or bitmap to grab an icon from The button saves the changes made The button cancel any changes made From the Change Icon dialog, you can specify whether to use the default method (grab the icon from the executable) , get the icon from a specified executable (you will to specify the icon index since most programs have more than one icon inside them), or use the bitmap of you choice 2.3 Running LanMenu To run LanMenu, run LANMENU.EXE. You may want to add it to the startup group so it is automatically started each time windows is run. It should display an icon bar with icon for each program and underneath them the group tabs. The size of the icon bar will increase to hold up to 10 icon/programs. To run a program, just press (not double-click) the icon. The button on the lower right of two rectangles toggles whether the icon bar always stays on top of all other windows or whether it acts like a normal window. LanMenu also will remember the last location it was at, so after you find a position you like for it, it will not have to be moved.
