               File Server Utilization on 33MHz and 486 Machines

Many 33MHz machines and 486 machines used as NetWare 286 file servers report high utilization figures.  (These high utilization reports have not been observed in NetWare 386.)  The typical utilization figure reported is 600%; utilization has been reported as high as 1500%.  Although high utilization is reported, these high figures are erroneous; no performance degradation or data corruption is occurring.

The high utilization figures are caused by the code that interprets the file server utilization.  A variable within the operating system that should be defined as a long integer is currently defined as a short integer.  The variable type will be changed in the next release of NetWare 286.
