TECHNICAL BULLETIN Bulletin #1-245 Date: June 14, 1989 NetWare and DOS Partitions in IBM PS/2 Computers IBM PS/2 Micro Channel computers that have both NetWare and DOS partitions defined will experience difficulty reading from the DOS partition if the partitions were defined in NETGEN. o If the DOS partition has been marked as bootable and the user attempts to format the DOS partition, he or she will receive "Unable to format drive C" error message. o If the NetWare partition is marked as bootable, then the format will proceed correctly on the DOS partition. o If the DOS partition is later designated as the bootable partition and DOS is properly installed on that partition, the "missing operating system" error message will occur when the user attempts to boot the machine to DOS. The following workaround is recommended whether the DOS partition or the NetWare partition will be the "active" partition. The Workaround Immediately after completing NETGEN and the NetWare installation, use FDISK to complete the following steps: 1) Choose Option 3: "Delete DOS partition." 2) Return to the FDISK main menu. 3) Choose Option 1: "Create DOS partition." 4) Return to the FDISK main menu. 5) Exit to DOS. After completing the steps listed above, the user can run the standard DOS format on the DOS partition, mark the partition as bootable, and boot from it.
