TECHNICAL BULLETIN Bulletin #1-244 Date: May 18, 1989 SFT NetWare 68 Version 2.1 Update The SFT NetWare 68 v2.1 operating system has been updated to include the following fixes: 1) FCB I/O fix 2) Leap Year fix 3) File Locking fix 4) Controller Type 5 & 6 fix To order an update for your SFT NetWare 68 v2.1 operating system, refer to the information on the next page. FCB I/O Handling Fix Some word processing applications had difficulty saving files properly if the user saved the file without exiting the application. All changes made to the file were saved the first time the user issued a save command without exiting. Subsequent changes were not saved because the application attempted to rename an open file. This problem existed only in version 2.1, but it has now been resolved. The fix is included in the maintenance release. Leap Year Fix The algorithm that calculated the date didn't account properly for leap year (February 29, 1988). This problem has been fixed and is included in the maintenance release. Record Locking Fix When multiple users used in record locking in a common file, locks were not always being released. If all but a single user exited the application dealing with that file, the remaining user would be unable to access the records previously locked by another user. This was true even though the other user may have closed the file. Controller Type 5 & 6 Fix Users who used SFT NetWare 68 v2.1 to add new disk drives to existing subsystems may have received the following ABEND message when booting the file server: ABEND: Drive in master control table that is not defined in the drive definition table on sector 14 The SFT NetWare 68 v2.1 controller information placed on the disk for ADAPTEC 4070 controllers was changed from a type 5 to a type 6 to be consistent with the NetWare 286 product line. A new drive installed with SFT NetWare 68 v2.1 had a different type number than disks previously installed with earlier versions of NetWare 68. As a result, drives with different controller types were being serviced by the same controller in the subsystem. Since the controller types did not match, the operating system was forced to ABEND during the booting process. This problem has been resolved by making the controller types equal.
