==[Introduction]===============================================================

2500 miles and 2.3 gigs ago I downloaded Chromatiks. I was Snowman of
Digital Infinity, maintaining the /music section on a budding little archive
 in Florida.  A newly uploaded musicdisk -- Chromatiks -- caught my attention;
not because of the music, not because of the interface, but because of the
coder (Trixter). I dropped a "good job, keep up the great work" sort of
e-mail and two years later find myself writing/editing this text.

It's already been a month and a half since NAID '96. Seems like the days
just slip by faster and faster. I used to think releases were old if I had
downloaded them a week ago. Now you'll hear me say things like "I hope to
have our web pages completed by May of next year." Seems like there's this
time rift all long-time sceners fall into...

As I sit here, I can't help but think of all the productions the PC scene has
released over the years. Thousands upon thousands of files are on our
archive, each one the result of dedicated effort. With all of those files,
how does Explicit really fit into the big picture? Three years down the
road, who will still remember it?

Trixter will. Stony will. Phred will. Tek will. I will.

Don't think of Explicit in terms of filesize, DemoNews rating or FPS. Think
of it as our -- Hornet and OTM's -- humble contribution to the scene. It
wasn't done for money. It didn't help us find a girlfriend or a job. The
BBC won't be busting down our doors for an interview. We did this for fun
and because it _meant_ something. It meant contributing to that organic and
electric underground presence that is The Demo Scene.

For us, NAID was an awesome opportunity to express ourselves and join
together with our brothers and sisters. Many memories and friendships were
forged. A good time -- so to speak -- was had by all.

But with this file uploaded and new projects on the board, our minds move on.
That itchy omnipresent feeling of anticipation has passed. Who knows if
everyone who worked on this demo will be around next year, or the year after
that. I personally don't care. What matters is that we were all there
_together_, in mind if not in body, on June 2nd, 1996.

 Journey onward.

 Explicit.

==[Program Notes]==============================================================

First of all: The demo loads data from the disk while the demo is running
in an effort to cut down on the memory requirements. So, if the demo
loses sync or misses some sections entirely, install a disk cache.

The font and font unit were created completely from scratch for this demo,
and can handle proportional-spaced fonts with full baselines, kerning, and
clipping. No big whoop, but something I should've done a while ago.

The demo was created by 'coders for 'coders. As such, it contains a few
sections that will probably impact coders the most. It was coded for fun,
not profit. Sure, I "talked trash" with other coders before the compo, but
 it was all in fun.

The compo machine was a Pentium 100 with 8 MB of RAM, so this demo was
written to use *and exploit* that. If you don't have a Pentium, this won't
run at the full frame rate, but it will run okay if you have a PCI/VLB video
card, even on a 486. (Thanks, IOR!) It even runs on a 386-16, but at
that point it runs in terms of spf, not fps. :-)

 This demo:

...should support your sound card in some way.
...should work with any memory configuration.
...should run at the full framerate on a Pentium with a decent video card.
   ...should work just fine.

If it doesn't, email me at trixter@mcs.com. But don't email me if you can't
find the hidden part, because I won't tell you. Whip out the debugger and
 find out for yourself.

Use "-?" as a command-line switch to see some additional options.

A note about the Inertia 3D engine: this engine is being coded by
Alex Chalfin and Jeroen Bowens, and will be released with GFXFX3 as a joint
project between Alex Chalfin, Jeroen Bowens, Bas van Galaan, and Sean Palmer.

 _____Trixter's Personal Greetings

To Tek and Stony, for joining in; and especially Phred, for without whom this
wouldn't have been inspired in the first place.

Catwoman : I love you! You're my very best friend!
 3some : Congrats on 1st place!
Edge / EMF : Did the army suck the demo scene out of you?
Henchman / FC : Your insight into Finnish and American culture has
always kept our conversations interesting. Good
                            luck with Remedy!
Jussi / VV : Without some of your help in the past, this demo
                            might not have been possible.
Liket : Thanks for the screen modes, and thanks again for
                            converting my 320x600 into 50Hz!
Mr. Kahn, MED, and Struk : Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the best
demoparties EVER!! I hope we can all keep it up!!
Necros / FM : You're very understanding, and a great person.
                            You'll go far!
 REW : Here's your greet! GREET! I didn't forget!
                            GREET!! ;-D
Rex Deathstar : How the hell did you learn all this? Thanks for
                            your insight!
Skaven / FC : I really should write you back... :-( But how are
                            those Irish lasses? ;)
Snowman / Hornet : Okay, pal, now it's your turn! You can do it!
Spaceballs : Here's 9 fingers for the PC, all nice and chunky
instead of planar. :-) Will you ever release your
algorithm for tracing bitmaps into polys?
