This .fli animation contains 80 frames ray-traced with the Persistance of Vision Ray-Tracer, each in 320x200. It took quite a while of experimentation to come with the right frame rate and input files. We wrote an engine in QuickBasic 4.5 to write the input .DAT files for us, and then a batch file to do the actual tracing. Each frame took from 5 to 8 minutes to compute on my system, a 486/33. All 80 frames together took probably close to ten hours. We then used DTA 1.7f (Dave's .TGA Animator) to assemble the .TGA 24bit color files (which took up 15 megabytes, incidentally) into a 256 color .fli animation. We recommend you use a .fli player which can load frames into expanded memory, such as the latest Flick players, to avoid disk access during playback.
