QDOC.TXT : Copyright 1993 QUART, Inc. Users' Manual for QDOC.EXE - Documentation Utility for QCDRUN (TM) CD-ROM Library QDOC.EXE is the Documentation Utility for the QCDRUN CD-ROM Library System for Microsoft Windows. QDOC allows you to read and print on-line the Users' Manuals and other documentation files installed to your hard disk with QCDRUN. QDOC is a viewing shell that calls NOTEPAD (which it assumes is located in your Windows directory) to let you read ASCII documentation files from your hard disk and print them out. (You may prefer to use QDOC to print them all out and remove the documentation files from your hard drive to save space.) The one exception is the "Print Registration Form" function, which instead calls Windows WRITE (which it again assumes is located in your Windows directory) to complete and print out a formatted registration form, stamped with date, time, and identification information (your name and company name) as you entered during QCDRUN installation. QDOC: Initial Operation: Click "Yes" in the menu item "Do You Want to Print or Read Documentation?" from within QINSTALL, QCD, or QLIB. QDOC : General Instructions and Operations Please be aware: At any prompt in QDOC - Clicking "Cancel" unconditionally terminates the program and returns control to the calling subroutine. All mouse operations in QDOC use the (standard) left mouse button. Any timed Message or Display window (without an "OK" button) can be closed, allowing the program to proceed ahead to the set time (which is a maximum of 5 seconds), by placing the cursor in the window and clicking the left mouse button. After the initial menu ("Do You Want to Read or Print Documentation?") QDOC displays a menu of the available options. These are: - Summary Description - file FILE_ID.DIZ - QCDRUN Release Notes and License - file README.TXT - QCD Manual - file QCD.TXT - QDOC Manual - file QDOC.TXT (this file) - QINSTALL Manual - file QINST.TXT - QLIB Manual - file QLIB.TXT - Registration Form - file REGISFRM.WRI and - Exit to Main Program All documentation files except REGISFRM.WRI are in pure ASCII form and viewed or printed through NOTEPAD.EXE. (An ASCII Registration Form, REGISFRM.TXT, is supplied separately in the QCDRUN working directory.) REGISFRM.WRI is viewed and printed using WRITE.EXE to allow Clipboard text insertions not available in NOTEPAD. Requesting any of these displays the file in the left half of your screen. The file display window can be maximized to fill your display, resized or moved around the display, or scrolled to allow you to read the full file on-screen, in the normal Windows manner. After you have selected and displayed your file, a menu appears in the middle of the display offering three options - View Another File; - Print Current File; OR - Exit to Main Program. If the menu obstructs your view of the file, it can be dragged elsewhere on the screen by the mouse in the normal Windows manner. You can read the current file on-screen without making another specific menu selection. Selecting "View Another File" closes the file displayed and calls up the file selection menu. Selecting "Print Current File" sends the appropriate key commands to NOTEPAD to print out the file being displayed and exit back to the file selection menu. A variation of "Print Current File" is "Print Registration Form", which appears in the menu only when REGISFRM.WRI is being viewed. Selecting this inserts the date and time, your name, and your company name into the on-screen Registration Form, pauses execution to allow you to complete the form on-screen from the keyboard. Pressing F10 resumes processing, printing out the Registration Form before exiting back to the file selection menu. Selecting "Exit to Main Program" completes the current operations and returns control to the calling program (QINSTALL, QLIB, or QCD). ENJOY YOUR CD-ROMs!
