CIESIN Catalog Services for Windows Beta -- Sept '93 --------------------------------------------------------- This version of Catalog Services provides a self-installation program on the distribution diskette. If Applicable, copy all files contained in the WINGP.ZIP file to a FLOPPY DISK. **IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to install WinGP from a hard drive or sub-directory on a disk. To install WinGP, run SETUP.EXE from the distribution disk and follow the on-screen prompts. If you have a TCP/IP Windows Sockets implementation installed already on your system then you are ready to try WinGP otherwise you will need to use a 100% Hayes Compatible modem. A driver for implementing a subset of Windows Sockets over a modem through a compatible Terminal Server is included with this package. To run Catalog Services: Run the executable file named WINGP.EXE. -or- Double click on the Catalog Services Icon in Program Manager. To load a particular configuration at run time, type: WINGP /iNewConfig.cfg where NewConfig.cfg is the name of the configuration file you want to load. To run the Catalog Services configuration editor, type: WINGP /c -or- Double click on the Catalog Services Configuration Icon in Program Manager. If you are unable to connect to the SSR server due to any incompatibility, you can establish a connection to sirius.poly.edu on the specified ports manually. Once the connection is established (when you see: +OK Welcome to SSRP Server +OK made asscociation ... ) exit your modem program WITHOUT HANGING UP. Then run Catalog Services with the following switch. To run Catalog Services with a manual modem connection, type: WINGP /m and it will attempt to attach itself to the current modem connection. ***(If Windows asks if it should assign the serial COM port to a Windows program, respond YES so that it may take control of the port). It is important that you configure Catalog Services to match the setup of the modem connection in progress or undesirable results will occur. This version also includes a program for initiating a manual connection to the server. It simplifies the task by opening the communication port specified in the Catalog Services configuration files and allowing you to enter the appropriate commands to obtain a connection to a host machine. Once a connection is established with a GP server (when you see: +OK Welcome to SSRP Server +OK made asscociation ... ) press OK and the program will run the WinGP application appropriately.
