Before you do anything else, please read the file BROWSE.ME which
is included in the Scripta distribution package.

 1. If you are a Power-QWK user, unpack the file SCRnnn.ZIP into
your Power-QWK main directory. Otherwise, create a new
directory called, say, C:\SCRIPTA and then unpack the ZIP file
     into the new directory.

 2. Type 'SCRIPTA /C' and change whatever is necessary in the
Scripta Configuration. There are three main sections, the first
of which is in two parts. You will probably have to change very
     little, if anything.

The most important items to set up are

               - default upload and download directories
               - default Port Number
               - default baud rate for the default port
               - modem initialisation string for the default port

When configuring the modem initialisation string, Scripta offers
two alternative suggestions, one of which will probably work
     with your modem.

The short string (ATZ^M) will work with modems such as the
Miracom Courier which allow you to preset initialisation
parameters. The longer string will work with many other modem
     types.

If neither works and you are unsure what string to set, do read
the manual which came with your modem.

 3. Scripta beta testers are supplied with script files to get them
going on their 'home' bulletin board.

These scripts are included in the Scripta distribution pack so
that other users may use them if they wish. If you wish to
access one of the bulletin boards for which a script is
supplied, do not edit it, merely run it.

To run these scripts, either type SCRIPTA <script_file_name> at
the DOS command line or type SCRIPTA followed by Alt/s and then
select the required script from the proffered menu.

When these scripts are used for the first time, they prompt for
your online Username and Password. These are stored away in
files called BBS_name.CFG for use on future script runs.

If you call a BBS for the first time ever, using one of these
scripts then you may find that the BBS asks you questions that
are not catered for in the script. If this is the case, just
answer the questions manually - the script will run without
manual intervention the next time you use it.

To change the contents of these name/password files later,
either edit them manually or, when you run a script, press any
key before the script starts dialling the BBS. You will be
prompted for a new name and password.

These scripts will dial the BBS, upload BBS_name.REP if it
exists in the default upload directory and download
BBS_name.QWK to the default download directory, if there is new
mail online. Note that the directories should be the same as
those set up in your mail reader.

To quit the script and continue your online session manually,
press Esc at any time after you are connected to the BBS.

If BBS-name.FDL or BBS_name.FUL exist in the main Scripta
directory then the files named within them will be downloaded
and uploaded, respectively, while you are online (this facility
is implemented in most scripts but not all).

BBS_name.FDL may be created manually using a text editor or may
be generated automatically within Power-QWK simply by selecting
a file name from the newfiles listing by pressing the D key.

Note, however, that for Power-QWK to integrate fully with
Scripta, the two products must be installed in the same
     directory.
