MANUAL has two types of user screens: Index screens and Text screens.

A legend in the top left hand corner of the screen shows you at all
times the number and name of the current manual or document section.

A legend at the foot of the screen shows a reminder list of all the
key commands available with the current screen type.

If the current section has a text file name associated with it in the
Contents Page then the main body of the screen will be a Text screen,
displaying the contents of that file.

If the current section has no associated text file then the body of
the screen will be an index, listing the Numbers and Titles of all
the subsections of the current section.

Pressing certain keys on your keyboard will cause MANUAL to perform
certain actions, dependent on whether the current screen is an Index
screen or a Text screen.

Text Screen Keyboard Commands
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When a Text screen is on display, you may use the Cursor, Paging and
Home/End keys to move up and down freely through the displayed Text
file.
You may also press the keys shown below to cause the actions
indicated.
Esc    - move 'up' through the document to the section which 'owns'
         the current section. If the current section is already the
         top-level section, i.e., section 0 representing the whole
         document, then exit MANUAL and return control to DOS.
E      - Edit the Text file currently on display. This causes your
         default Editor or Word Processor program to be called to
         edit the currently displayed Text file.
F      - Form Feed. MANUAL sends a Form Feed character to your
         printer device.
L      - Line Feed. MANUAL sends a Carriage Return/Line Feed
         character pair to your printer device.
P      - Print the subtree of the document whose topmost section is
         that named in the top left corner of the screen.
         This action may be used to print all of a document, or one
         subsection, or any subtree of subsections.
         If the current section is the Contents Page then only the
         Contents Page is printed. The printout will include only
         section names and numbers. Text file names, | separator
         characters and Parameter Lines are not printed.
Index Screen Keyboard Commands
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Cursor, Paging and Home/End keys may be used to move the
on-screen pointer to highlight the name of any of the displayed
subsection names.

You may also press the keys shown below to cause the actions
indicated.

Esc - acts exactly as described above for Text screens.

Return - move 'down' through the document to the currently
         highlighted subsection.

C - display the Contents Page of the current document. The
         screen becomes a Text screen so all the available Text
         screen actions may now be applied to the Contents Page.

E - enter a new Default Editor name into MANUAL's configuration
         file.

         This key will be used rarely because if you try to edit a
         Text file when no Editor has been specified, MANUAL will
         ask you for the name of your preferred editor and then
         enter it into the configuration file.

F - } These commands act exactly as described for Text screens,
L      - } above.
P      - }

F4 - change the colour of legends and field titles.
F5 - change the text foreground colour.
F6 - change the text background colour.
F7 - change the screen frame foreground colour.
F8 - change the screen frame background colour.

         Colour changes are applied to both Index and Text screens.

         MANUAL screen colour information is stored in the MANUAL
         configuration file - MANUAL.COL - which is created
         automatically.

         If Scripta has been installed and run before MANUAL is
         installed then the MANUAL colours are set initially to the
         values set for the Dialling Directory in Scripta.

F9 - Shell to DOS. You may then execute normal DOS commands,
         entering the command EXIT when you wish to return to MANUAL.
