                                COURIER.

Courier is a UK mailing list program that is quick, powerful and easy
to use. Up to 11 address files that can handle over 10000 addresses
are supported. Courier uses 6 address fields, Postcode, 2 telephones,
2 name fields as well as code fields. Features include: printout on 1
or 2 column labels, 5 different label styles, duplicate address check,
mailmerge letter and export to other systems. Courier has fast and
flexible search options. For best results the use of a hard disk with
either a monochrome or EGA/VGA screen is recommended. A 360K floppy
system is not supported. Supports Epson compatible dot matrix
printers. Compiled dBase (Clipper). 640K RAM, HD, Mono or Colour.

SHAREWARE version requires a minimum of 500K disc space.

        INSTALLATION.

Before you can use Courier, it must be installed onto your own
particular computer system. This takes place in two stages.

        STAGE 1.

1 Backup your Courier disc onto another floppy (to be the system
disc) disc and store the Courier disc in a safe place.

2 If you have a hard disc system then insert your system disc into
Drive A, log onto the hard drive and type the command:

                       A:INSTALME

(or B:INSTALME if your disc drive is B)

Follow the screen instructions. Remove system disc and invoke Courier
        with the command DOMAIL.

3 Although Courier is designed for hard disc use, it can be used on
a highish density floppy disc system (ie. 720K or more). Owing to
insufficient disc space you will not be able to use TownBase. To
install, place Courier system disc in B and an empty formatted disc in
      A. Type the command:

                        B:INSTALME

4 For best performance you should ensure that your config.sys file
      includes the lines:

                        files = 25
                        buffers = 25

or something very similar. If the files statement is too low then
Courier will not be able to open files properly. The buffers statement
affects the efficiency with which your computer accesses information
from disc. Too low and the computer spends a disproportionate amount
of time loading from the disc. Too high and too much RAM space is
        wasted.

Note. To reclaim more memory for Courier, type the following command
at the DOS system prompt (or include in a Batch file). Note the lack
        of spaces in the command.

                        set CLIPPER=V016

        STAGE 2.

1 When you run Courier for the first time, you enter the
Registration screen. Just type in your name or a phrase that will
personalise your copy of Courier (NB. This is not necessary for the
      Shareware version).

2 Courier will search for a valid address file. If it doesn't find
one then it reports the matter and will ask whether you wish to create a
new data file. Answer Y for Yes.
