Part 1: Introduction
====================

Librarius is a cataloguing system for printed and audiovisual material. It
provides for consistent yet versatile cataloguing, allowing the user to
establish a working database within a short time scale.

This evaluation copy of Librarius is restricted to 300 titles.

Part 2: Installing Librarius
============================

Librarius is a Windows 3.1 application and requires between .5Mb and 1.4Mb
of disk space (depending on your system's current configuration), and
approximately 1Mb of available memory.

Librarius must be installed using SETUP.EXE which is on disk 1. SETUP.EXE
is a Windows application and must therefore be run from Windows rather than
from the MS-DOS prompt.

To install Librarius, use Program Manager or File Manager to start SETUP.EXE
as you would any other Windows application. For example, if you are
installing from drive A:

	- From the Program Manager File menu, choose Run.

	- In the Run dialog box, type A:SETUP and choose OK.

	Or

	- From the File Manager, double-click on the SETUP.EXE file icon
	  on drive A.

Some of the files on the disks are compressed and must be expanded before
they can be used. For Librarius to work properly, you must install the
files using SETUP.EXE.

SETUP.EXE invokes a further program, SETUP1.EXE, which, once copied to your
windows directory, performs the bulk of the installation including the
creation of a Program Manager group. Once Librarius has been installed,
the file SETUP1.EXE can be deleted from your windows directory. Do NOT
delete the file SETUP.EXE from your windows directory.

Part 3: WIN.INI
===============

Librarius refers to two sections in the WIN.INI file, both of which are
initialised on installation. Typical contents are shown below:

1)      [Librarius]
	BasePath=C:\LIBRIUS

	This is the drive and directory entered as part of the
	installation process. If the location of Librarius is subsequently
	changed, this entry should be amended accordingly. Always remember
	to move Librarius' subdirectories as well.

2)      [Paradox Engine]
	MaxFiles=20
	MaxTables=20
	RecBufs=32
	SwapSize=64

	The entries shown represent the minimum values required by
	Librarius for the four parameters. On a PC which already has a
	Windows application that maintains Paradox files, additional
	parameters may also be present.

Part 4: LIBRIUS.INI
===================

This file resides in your Librarius directory. It is initialised when you
run Librarius for the first time and is subsequently maintained by
Librarius as different events occur. Unless advised otherwise, this file
should not be amended.

Part 6: Distribution
====================

Librarius is currently being distributed on a shareware basis. Shareware
distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it. If you
try a shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to become a
registered user. The shareware system and the continued availability of
high quality products depend on your willingness to register and pay for
the shareware you use.

The file VENDOR.TXT contains full details of the distribution policy.

Part 7: Shareware Authors Association (SAA)
===========================================

The SAA was established as a professional body that would assist and
support shareware authors and users. It's members, subscribe to a set of
regulations that ensure high standards are maintained for all their
products and are committed to providing quality, professional products
that represent a cheaper alternative to commercial software.

The SAA's primary goals are:

      - To promote shareware as a professional software alternative to
	 commercial software.

      - To establish and maintain high standards for authoring,
	 distribution, marketing and technical support.

      - To encourage the distribution of shareware through disk vendors
	 and the like who agree to educate the public by having a clear
	 description of shareware in their catalogue including about the
	 need to register the shareware they use.

      - To assist members in the marketing of their software by the
	 collation of useful marketing information.

      - To encourage public discussion between members to share ideas and
	 learn from each other.

Part 8: Ombudsman Information
=============================

This program is produced by a member of the Shareware Authors Association
(SAA). The SAA supports high standards in both members and their products
to ensure that the shareware principle works for you. If you have not
received a response after sending a registration payment or requesting
technical support by contacting the member directly, the SAA may be able
to help. The SAA Ombudsman can help you resolve a dispute or problem with
an SAA member but does not itself provide technical support for members'
products. Please write to the SAA Ombudsman at Flat 7, 9 Emanuel Avenue,
North Acton, London, W3 6JG, United Kingdom.

Part 9: Registration
====================

The registration fee for Librarius depends on the number of titles to be
catalogued.

Full details of how to become a registered user are contained in Librarius'
online help.
